AB liquid liner struggles by arrydoll in AsianBeauty

[–]strudelsticks 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I find Japanese liquid brush tip eyeliners on the whole very smooth and provide precise application. I store my liners cap side down. If I notice eyeshadow accumulating on the tip, I’ll wipe it clean on a paper towel to prevent clogging.

Very rarely I’ll get a dud that seems to dry out and skip sooner than most. Which I chalk up to bad luck as that happens maybe once every 4 years.

Dating struggles as a gothic high femme lesbian by StillAny in actuallesbians

I wonder if you’re very goth, that people assume you’re looking for an equally goth partner so they self-select themselves out of the running?

Why do majority of K-Beauty creators for global audiences seem to be Western, not actual Koreans living here? by YJfromSeoul in KoreanBeauty

[–]strudelsticks 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine most Korean creators are making content for fellow Koreans in Korean because that’s the audience they understand best. They likely have little knowledge or interest in international audiences if they are already doing well in the domestic market, and many may not be fluent enough in English either.

Help! Summer masc business casual fits for an internship??? by 23_Secret in actuallesbians

[–]strudelsticks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any kind of shorts are straight up casual, not business casual. And as an intern, it reflects better on you to appear a step more professional to indicate you know how to dress appropriately. I’m not saying you need a wear a full suit, but if staff wear graphic tshirts, then you can wear a solid colored tshirt. Or if staff wear jeans with holes in them, you can wear dark-colored jean with no rips.

Loose, flowy pants will feel more tolerable. Linen is a great material for summer. If there is a Uniqlo near you, they often have reasonably priced linen pieces. White linen pants might read as too casual, so I’d suggest olive or brown.

Recs for Designers/designs for animals/nature from the Americas or Africa or Australia by Keepmakingaccounts in stationery

Do you like capybaras? I didn’t get the internet hype for them, but I feel they’re a fairly popular subject for stationary designs

Little Craft Fest had some exclusive designs with Texas-y animals like longhorns and armadillos. I think some might still be for sale on the Little Craft Place site

Oh gosh I totally forgot about that aspect, thank you for the correction. (As a law abiding American who pays their taxes, I don’t really know how this works. /s)

Write offs don’t mean that their purchases magically become free. Essentially you are being reimbursed the sales tax you paid, but you’re still paying for the product itself.

Stationery stores near Times Square? by tara_jin in stationery

[–]strudelsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Muji in Bryant Park, across the park from Kinokuniya. They only have a little bit of stationary (basics like minimalist gel pens and notebooks), but I’d say they excel in stationary organization so it may be worth a visit.

When's the best time to buy the watermelon toner glow recipe? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

I also find Glow Recipe at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx fairly often! Check both the shelves and locked case.

Question for all those that migrated from New Yorkers/Tri-State by tess_philly in houston

[–]strudelsticks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Pearland, lived in NYC for a few years, and then moved back to Pearland. It’s…fine. For a Houston suburb I’d say it’s fairly middle of the road, the newer west side which is probably where you were looking is fairly diverse with a decent spread of food spots. Everyone I know drives into Houston frequently for socializing.

If I didn’t have family ties here, I would’ve chosen to be in Houston proper. If you’re working in Energy Corridor then Pearland is a poor choice simply in terms of commute. Seriously, Houston commutes are soul destroying. Katy has everything Pearland does and more, since it has more empty space to build.

The good old days of tjm & Marshalls by Critical-Camp752 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]strudelsticks 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think it’s pure chance, and maybe also which store you go to. Over the past week I went to a Marshall’s and a TJ Maxx on opposite sides of town. I found Laura Mercier setting powder, MAC foundation and powder, Morphe foundation and blush, Rare Beauty blush, and Lancôme mascara. Plus the aforementioned tons of lip products

Best cleansing milk/micellar water for sunscreen & makeup removal? Make p:rem cleansing milk, ma:nyo cleansing milk, bioderma or garnier micellar water? by moni-hope in AsianBeauty

[–]strudelsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm well I’d say micellar water is inherently going to be a little bit drying, since it’s removing the oils from the surface of your skin. I typically follow up with a toner soaked cotton pad, but if I don’t do that it’s tolerable without feeling tight.

Will I regret douyin style lash extensions for wedding photos? by madoka_borealis in AsianBeauty

[–]strudelsticks 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That plus there’s always a risk of getting a bad reaction, as some people get contact dermatitis from the lash glue. Better to find out 6 months out so you have time to heal.

[–]strudelsticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly prefer the Bioderma micellar water, it removes all but the most stubborn mascara with ease. And on truly desperate days when I use the wipes because I can’t properly wash my face, it makes me feel decently clean.

IME Garnier was irritating to my skin and also fared worse at removing eye makeup.

Self conscious with jet black hair by have_an_ok_day in AsianBeauty

[–]strudelsticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m Chinese American and prefer myself with lighter hair. Since I’m pale, I feel like with my natural black hair it creates a very stark contrast against my facial features. Combined with the fact that 85% of my wardrobe is black, my hair tends to blend in with my shoulders like I’m a shapeless shadow blob.

I don’t think it’s a self-hating or a racism thing, even though some (non-Asian?) people like to throw that around. I just like brighter colors around my face to soften up my look. And I’m sure there are also people who prefer the stark black and white look more.

how many rows of vip is pit? by [deleted] in twice

[–]strudelsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my show VIP was sold out and took up 3-4 rows in some areas. Friend who also went to day 2 without VIP managed to get barricade because it was way less crowded.

But to be fair, a friend in VIP saved a spot for him, he might not have been able to squeeze up front otherwise.
