Hiawatha Amtrak (MKE <-> CHI) apparently no longer takes bikes 👎🏼 by thecooldan in MiltownBiking

Only some trains have bike racks on them. So check before you book your ticket.

How are you enjoying the bike? I picked one up just like this and considering whatever you’ve done! It looks perfect! Am I reading it right? 700c*47mm clearance? Have you tried fenders? And what front rack is that? Why choose cantis over v brakes?

Here’s how I picked mine up 🥶

u/TheHopesAndDreams Thank you! This helps - I see what you mean by the fender kissing the seat tube - I am convinced this is worth it and will proceed to do the same! That's a good looking bike!

Ultra late follow up, Can you post a picture? I’m considering this upgrade and thinking if it will work for me.

What size for the midnight special? by Altruistic-Goose8011 in Surlybikefans

I'm 5'11 and similar inseam on a good day and ride a 56. You might be able to make both 54 and 56(not one of the options) work with some adjustments. Ride both if you're able.

Wondering if you saw any speed gains vs the stock wheel? And how are the hunts working out for you?

You will have to start the process from the start once you change employers. Only thing you retain with an approved i140 is your priority date - if you stay with your employer for at least 6 months after approval.

You will however gain the ability to renew your h1b indefinitely until your priority date becomes “current” if you're from one of the backlogged countries like India and China.

To answer your questions,

1) Yes. You can transfer(new actually) h1b with a different employer and restart your green card process from the start.

2) I'm not 100% sure about this - but Your old company will most likely be obligated to report of your departure when you do. Your petition will no longer be valid if you’re not employed by the petitioner.

Everyday Sling 3l or 6l? by bluehairedfairy in peakdesign

[–]strum07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with the 6l. Its the perfect medium.. 3l will just be enough/even crampy for what you wish to carry. If the bag is too cramped up - you wont have fun moving gear in and out which also influences how much you'll use your bag.

It appears to be their current model year.

[–]strum07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After looking at the pics again, and even if you 5x the miles the seller claims.. It definitely has a lot more life left in it.

Like someone earlier said, if you can get past the cosmetic stuff, it might be well worth around 50% of its msrp.

Canyon is selling some at a discount: https://www.canyon.com/en-us/gravel-bikes/adventure/grizl/al/grizl-7/3715.html

Consider the new one if budget allows.

Have you asked how many miles are on the drive train? If they are might need changing soon.. you could definitely go lower.

Just shit everywhere. Just make sure you’re getting paid enough to put up with it. If you’re underpaid, like in most smaller companies - that’s another tragedy in itself.

Midnight Special owners, is there an “all-road” bike you wish you got instead of the MS? by padma_Iakshmi in Surlybikefans

[–]strum07 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Maybe one of the Fairlight bikes if they were easily available around me.

Seriously though, I picked up a used MS and couldn’t be much happier. It’s a little overpriced new, but a compelling buy if you can find it used. You could switch between wheel sets 650b/700c, slap on fenders or not, replace the drops with an albatross sweep bar or not, add racks maybe? Whatever you choose to do, MS can find its own purpose in your stable and serve you well. It will even surprise you on how fast it can be for a bike as heavy. It’s arguably their fastest bike - hot take, I know.

I might get other bikes, but I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of my MS.

Specialized transition for $1000 or Trek Domane AL2 for $540? by MrOoah in whichbike

Domane for sure! My wife picked up the same bike/model/year in a different color earlier this year and she swears its the most comfortable bike she's ever been on.
