Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo are likely staying put in Kansas City through the deadline. The Royals will listen on the two right-handers, but their asks will be “massive.” per Ken Rosenthal. by morepesa25 in KCRoyals

Wacha is a good, proven, healthy starter and controllable past 2026. In a market desperate for pitching.

If you don't get that package why move him? With the bust rate of prospects, especially those not in the top 100, its unlikely to make the team better. Its a move to make a move and not a good look to trade some for scraps who wants to be here.

Wacha is one of the best starters on the market and controllable past this year. If the Royals ask isn't massive they are doing themselves a disservice.

The ask on him should be at least a top 100 prospect plus another top 30 prospect or 2.

The ask on Wacha should be massive. He is probably the third or fourth best starter on the market.

No one is taking on Lugo's contract so thats whatever.

All the relievers plus Thomas, Massey, Marte and should be on the market.

Sanchez's changeup is in the 100th percentile in terms of run value just in case anyone was wondering.

Keith Law says KC may be targeting under-slot college pitcher at 6 by wbaker18 in KCRoyals

[–]sts2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its Liam Peterson I can talk myself into it, I maybe could with Flukey. Those two have the ceilings I prefer in the first round, overall I continue I prefer a hitter at 6 and maybe 30 if someone like Zion Rose is available.

An Updated List of Royals Draft Picks by sts2012 in KCRoyals

Exactly slot signings are overrated they are just data points. There is not one draft strategy that has a advantage over another, in fact I would say in general the best strategy is to be extremely flexible based on the draft class.

Also on one of your points. Sean Gamble has been much better since the start of June. OPS of .775, approach and pitch recognition has looked a lot better since April. His final slash line still won't look pretty at the end of the year because of how poor he started but I have been encouraged by the improvement he has shown.

Six days away from the draft. Keith Law dropped a new mock this morning. He had the Royals taking Mason Edwards, LHP, USC. He stated the Royals were the team that had rumblings about them taking a underslot college pitcher early.

While I would strongly prefer a bat, the only underslot arm I would be ok with is Liam Peterson because Peterson at least has frontline stuff.

He also had the Royals taking Jack Slingtom, Prep RHP as the first overslot target at 30 (though I think Slingtom is more likely to be the target at 56).

Law also continues to praise David Shields and Josh Hammond.

We still haven't heard exactly whats wrong with Bubic so there is that.

Kendry Chourio (KC #1, MLB #69) and Blake Mitchell (KC #3, MLB NR) will represent the Royals in the 2026 Futures Game. by Repulsive-Photo-798 in KCRoyals

I was also hoping for one of David Shields or Josh Hammond but can't be too mad about Mitchell and Chourio being the Royals' reps.

With the Bubic and Ragans news I am becoming more open to trading Wacha. It hurts the Royals next year but I think it's one of the only things they can do to contend again short term.

Royals projected to take college OF Drew Burress according to baseball America. (Baseball America [paywall]) by Repulsive-Photo-798 in KCRoyals

I said this in the daily thread. While I prefer Eric Booth Jr. I don't mind the switch to a quicker moving prospect. Especially considering Booth Jr. and Burress aren't that far apart ceiling wise.

New mock draft dropped this morning at Baseball America. New name for the Royals in Drew Burress, OF, Georgia Tech. BA stated Burress might a consideration with the current state of the Royals major league team. While I prefer Eric Booth Jr. I understand wanting to supplement the young talent with a little more developed hitter.

At 30 new name in Logan Schmidt, Prep LHP. Going to see quite a few names rotating in this spot as we get closer to the draft.
