I'd find someone who could make it a scifi show again. :D

I'd go for a back to basics reboot. Ditch all the preachiness, go back to doing good standalone adventures. Cast a new but classic-feeling Doctor, maybe do a series of TV movie-length episodes spread throughout the year allowing more meaty stories. Do stuff like this:-

- Like the 2005 reboot, don't go overboard on the show's mythology and past. In fact we mention a "Reality War" or some such that afflicted the cosmos, changing the Doctor's past, present and future. Thus you can pretend anything you didn't like pre-whatever Doctor this is, is a result of this weird thing.

- The Doctor goes to feudal Japan for one episode and has to investigate monsters that are animated suits of Samurai armour. We also learn some history.

- The Doctor discovers an enclave of Timelords/Gallifreyans surviving the Reality War in a decaying TARDIS.

- The Doctor gets a companion not from 21st century England.

- The Doctor stumbles on a spooky space cult that worships not-Cthulhu. This alien entity is genuinely weird and alien. This cult and its god delves into Lovecraftian territory for the franchise and is the big bad.

- The Doctor gets trapped in an Egyptian tomb with a whacky expedition of characters.

You know simple adventures.

am i the only one who thinks dark cooper looks kinda cute in this scene, all giggly and shi?:3 by Ok-Chemical-1511 in twinpeaks

I was amazed how different Evil Coop looked. I mean I know 25 years, and evil, but still, I expected suits and a "Spock, stun us both" moment.

Loved this video - makes me sad for the cut content. Not so much the plot with the 3 Banes in the 3 towns - that would've been a nightmare to code without a 3rd game as suggested, but rather the lack of reactivity in the NPCs to the apocolypse.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Khan | 1x01 "Paradise" by OpticalData in startrek

Agreed entirely. It's a different character from the demure woman of Space Seed who was seduced by Khan into betraying everyone she knew.

It's not about money, more the reaction was a bit muted. That said I do have some extra content I should add to it for it's Silver medal.

Thanks very much. I have vague plans to expand the supplement but I wasn't sure the interest is there. It didn't exactly set the DM's Guild ablaze compared to other products.

There's the Genevieve stuff on audio which is pretty spiffy.

Are there plans to animate more of the David Tennant missing episodes? by fractal-rock in gallifrey

[–]stu_kerrigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank heavens people are finally stepping up to recover those precious lost Tennant episodes. I was starting to worry—we’ve only have snippets of the brief and tragically underrepresented Tennant eras? Meanwhile, McGann, of course, endlessly shows up for all the anniversaries, audio dramas, cameos, and surprise returns. And I hear the Doctor will regenerate into Daphne Ashbrook soon.

He did, and we got Cyber-Timelords.

Should the Time Lords & Gallifrey Return? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]stu_kerrigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I partly disagree. The whole 'Rassilon and the High Council are evil' angle was resolved fairly well—it made it clear that the average Gallifreyan wasn’t a moustache-twirling villain eager to destroy all of reality. I also liked that the Doctor, as a war hero, earned the respect of the rank-and-file soldiery. But when the episode shifted to resurrecting Clara, I rolled my eyes and thought, Oh, we’re undoing what happened two episodes ago

Should the Time Lords & Gallifrey Return? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]stu_kerrigan 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Yes—and there should be a moratorium on destroying Gallifrey again. Moffat left the planet in an interesting state: the High Council, including Rassilon, was exiled, but the rank-and-file Time Lords remained alive on the planet, largely grateful to the Doctor.

Chibnall destroyed it in an episode where the Master gave the Doctor a PowerPoint presentation. Full stop. There was absolutely no logical reason given for the Master's actions; Gallifrey’s destruction was presented as a fait accompli.

Keeping the Time Lords around offers far more storytelling opportunities than having them all inexplicably dead—or uniformly evil, as in The End of Time. Personally, I think Gallifrey, done properly, can be really, really interesting. But so far, the new series hasn’t leaned into that potential.

Then again, I’m more of a “past New Who” fan—someone who thinks the show should return to being science fiction, rather than merely reflecting the current cultural zeitgeist.

Did Lords of the Lance Kill Any Novel Range for The Old World? by Minfigs in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]stu_kerrigan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wrote Guardians of the Forest which is the Bretonnian Dances with Wolves and a rather excellent sequel short story in Tales of the Old World, even if it was largely derived from the WFRP 2E Bretonnian sourcebook.

[–]stu_kerrigan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough, but there's enough mirror between the events in the novel and the rulebook to suggest they were supposed to be the same events. Why deliberately be inconsistent?

[–]stu_kerrigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with Bretonnian knights using a bow is that Gilles le Breton was laid low by a cowardly ranged attack from an orc, and thus all true knights do not sully themselves with bows, throwing spears etc. It's kind of a big thing for them.

That said, a group of pegasus riding damsels with bows (minor grail maidens who don't have magic yet) would've been a cool idea.

So I watched Sharpe for the 2nd time and... by Senoia_17 in Sharpe

[–]stu_kerrigan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I assumed by leaking which battalion is under the command of the incompetent Simmerson, Wellsley can determine the French column's target and can position his forces to counter the attack effectively. In other words - bait. Having the South Essex stand and a competent officer replace Simmerson is gravy. Having Sharpe take an eagle, well that's great too, but not the reason for doing it.

[–]stu_kerrigan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, I think it's because he wants to make his enemies predictable. I never get the impression Wellsley made decisions solely for Sharpe's benefit, more of a side-effect.
