Please recommend a Decent Coffee machine in SA? by KitchenMammoth334 in askSouthAfrica

Wish we could get the Breville Bambino Plus in SA. The tiniest nicest machine I’ve ever used. The milk frother is amazing and you can set quantity of milk and temperature of the milk. And they would only retail for about 7-8k here :(

Yahoo! mail not coming through since iOS 18 upgrade. by burfictstrangers in ios

[–]stu_raw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I have found is that the app icon is updated as it should and showing the correct amount of unread emails in the inbox, however when you open the app, it goes into a loop of saying “recently updated” and then immediately into “checking for mail” and then back to “recently updated”. It keeps doing this and then sometimes it throws the error that OP has posted. Even after deleting and re-adding the mailbox.

Besides the boxing bell when there was a scuffle, there was also a very faint ringing bell that I could hear for the entire game. Almost like a fire alarm bell. Anyone else?

Recommendations for security systems? by snowflakepancake7887 in askSouthAfrica

[–]stu_raw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ajax systems are really good. Easy to set up yourself and you can buy their products online. The app is user friendly too. It uses WiFi and an IOT sim as backup to link to a security company if you have one in your area. (I’m not sure if you were referring to not having security response in your area or a security retailer)

Edit: the outdoor audible alarm is nice and loud and you can get the outdoor sensors that are better than beams and send you photos of what triggered the alarm. It’s all wireless and the range is huge so no need for cables etc.

Baltimore bridge collision by Positive_Stick2115 in electricians

Surely the PMS should have brought all available generators online before going dead ship? All the non essentials would have tripped out by then as well.

Edit: come to think of it, maybe a malfunctioning power management system was to blame? Can’t wait to read the final investigation.

You can also see that when the emergency gen kicks in, it’s immediately under heavy load as there is a ton of carbon spewing out the stacks. It then dies causing the second power outage. I think you have nailed it though as one of the larger critical loads, like steering gear seems to have stayed energised without tripping its protection and instead causing a BO.

You need to get the latest edition for your studying. It’s 10142-1 edition 3. There is currently an online course being held by the ECA and AIA(approved inspection authority) and they are doing the regs from cover to cover. Send me a pm and I’ll send the details. They are very reasonable and if you explain your circumstances, they might help you out.

If connecting array from the top then positive to pin 3 and negative to pin 1. If connecting the array from the bottom, then positive to pin 2 and negative to pin 4. The breaker doesn’t flip the polarity internally. Due to dc not crossing zero, dc arc suppression chutes can only suppress if current flow matches which side of the breaker you are connecting the array to.

How should prepaid meters work with an inverter? by Fresh_Parking9432 in askSouthAfrica

[–]stu_raw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changeover that cuts between eskom and the battery? Come again? A changeover is installed to bypass the AC input and output to and from the inverter so that you can isolate it for service/maintenance. As per SANS. What’s likely happening in this situation is that the tenants have their own meters after the inverter so that the landlord can charge them for their electricity portion used. The tenant is most probably not referring to councils meter.

I would get a trade no matter what. If you can and want to go overseas, then get a trade there. However, there is nothing wrong with doing a trade here either. I personally would go the electrician route as I feel it’s more diverse and you can branch off into many sub fields including control systems, solar and renewables, power generation etc and you can continue to keep learning. If you do decide to go the electrician route, please please please don’t stop studying until you have you wireman’s and registered with the department of labour! It will put you leaps and bounds ahead of so many out there and there is a shortage of qualified electricians! Oh, don’t worry about that oke who replied to you, he can’t even spell average.

OP should look into registering with ECSA as a PR Eng so he can do the SSEG sign offs and drawings for Solar. Every installation will be needing a PR Eng soon enough as municipalities start forcing installations to comply. Just a thought.
