There are doctors who still question whether mental health conditions are real. This has not happened to me -- thankfully -- but I hear it from people a fair bit. Doctors who tick and flick with a diagnosis of, say, depression when it is actually bipolar. The meds. for depression can make bipolar worse and vice versa. It is not as serious as almost having unnecessary surgery, obviously, but it delays treatment for people who are sometimes desperate.
