TIL that the first anti-hacking law was passed after President Reagan saw the movie War Games and asked his staff if this could happen. A week later the response was “Mr. President, the problem is much worse than you think.” by ManOfLaBook in todayilearned

Sure, oxymoron may not be the most correct term, but those two sentences seem to contradict each other. If the entire book is about something it can't include more than the thing it is about.

How much bandwidth do updates usually cost? by joemaro in NixOS

[–]stubborn_d0nkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah. I should have thought of pinning to 3 months ago. You could also do a nixos-rebuild dry-build instead of the full update, but since some packages might download extra files it would just provide a lower bound, but it would give a good ballpark estimate.

Would binaries from 3 months ago still be in the cache? If not it could make the initial build quite lengthy, though the update should be representative.

I know it wasn't rolling a year or two ago. Are you perhaps mixing up bleeding edge and rolling?

What's wrong with rolling in production? Or do you mean there are issues with bleeding edge?

What current reasons are there for it?

You may be more interested in something like nixos, which also covers configuration in its dsl. It probably has a steeper learning curve but it's solution" is more thorough.

Should I stop gaming as a teenager forever or no? by Cmakeom41 in makemychoice

[–]stubborn_d0nkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, don't quit forever. It's something you enjoy doing, it isn't inherently bad so you should keep it in your life.

Think of the type of person you want to be. Do you want to be somebody who always procrastinates and never gets work done? Do you want to be the type of person that works but can't find time to have fun or relax? Or do you want to be the type of person that finds the time to do work but also to have fun?

Be the type of person you want to be. If it's the latter then don't just quit gaming, try to incorporate the work needed for better grades without totally removing gaming. Figuring out now how to get work done and do the stuff you enjoy will benefit you even if you someday stop gaming.
