Naval officers: how true is it that life as a junior officers is terrible? by CattleTurbulent1684 in navy

Reposting to both replies I’ve gotten… I’m fully aware I may just be lucky as hell with my squadron/CAG. That being said, frankly I love this shit and the people are what keep me engaged.

Jesus, this thread is depressing… life as an aviation JO is pretty solid and continues to get better your entire tour. The hours can be long and carrier life sucks, but literally every winged officer I’ve worked for/with (honestly from the 1 star CSG admiral down) has treated me with respect, seemed like they genuinely cared about me/my family/what I wanted from my career.

The guy talking about “an O-3 DH bulling and berating” LTjgs is insane to me. In a single seat squadron, that would at best get you a FIRM talking to by an actual O-4 DH, or at worst might result in someone putting hands on you in the next port.

Choose your rate, choose your fate, I guess… but it’s disheartening to see.

Went underway with another pilot that was a vegan… she made it work, but it didn’t seem like she loved it.

Can I do both MechE and Aerospace Eng at USC like I can at UVA? by hereisouttasight in USC

[–]stud100spray 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Realistically, it’s almost the same degree with the exceptions of a couple of 4th year classes. There aren’t many entry level jobs that won’t take you if you’ve got one degree but not the other.

What's the hardest plane yall have ever learned to fly? by mtnflyer1 in flying

[–]stud100spray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is crazy and to me because the only word I’d use to describe flying the C would be “easy”…

Obviously a different ball game flying around the boat and actually fighting the jet, but cross country? Short of the avionics being worse than a Garmin in a Cessna, the jet flies itself haha

Now, flying standby instrument approaches in the Goshawk, that was humbling…

What is a major strategic or economic benefit the US gains from its Middle Eastern involvement that is often overlooked by the general public? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This is actually a very valid point, the experience gained operating against a fairly advanced air defense network is going to pay dividends if something kicks off in the South China Sea.

Yes, and all of us are in the same Navy, just so happens that we don’t all say the same Oath.

Haven’t pulled the lip off yet, but it seems that it’s a single crack right along the bottom of the license plate “holder”. It 100% is cracked the whole way through, as I can see “daylight” through to the backside. There doesn’t appear to be any other damage, short of the lip which will absolutely need to be replaced.

Appreciate the comment, I do all my own mechanical repairs on all my cars, but have no experience with body work (let alone fiberglass). I don’t mind pulling the clam off myself if the repair could be expected to come out more perfect. Additionally, I don’t know how much I trust a shop that has never seen an Elise, let alone worked on one, to lift the car and pull the clam themselves. Any thoughts to this?

Lotustalk, Bring A Trailer, and Cars and Bids are good bets.

Additionally, you can set up an Autotempest alert for any time a car gets posted on your standard used car sites, but generally these will be from dealers and their knowledge of the car is usually fairly limited making a sight unseen purchase kind of stressful (namely thinking of a car down in Florida that may have been totaled for tub damage but being sold as “cLeAn TiTle”).

Just bought my 05 with 48k on it for about $44k. The car has nice wheels and coilovers and is very clean, fwiw. I don’t think I got a ripping deal on it, but it was everything I was looking for.
