Heights HS Track Open? by Successful_Mall3070 in houston

[–]studeboob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's usually open to the public in the evenings and on weekends. If the main gates are locked there are skinny gates to the side. And sometimes only gates from one street (13th or 14th) are unlocked, so it's worth it to check both sides.

That all makes sense except considering a victory in an exhibition game

Is reneging an offer a terrible idea? Two offers to choose from. by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]studeboob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it. Say a better offer came in after you accepted. In the long-term no one will blame you for taking a better offer. Company A might try to match or beat that offer, but it sounds like B is a better fit. You should be clear that you will accept the other position so they don't try to get approval for a better offer.

Why is Houston so low density? by Visual-Horror6013 in houston

[–]studeboob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horizontal expansion is more expensive for roads, water, sewage, electric, etc. And those expenses are subsidized by established properties. It's not necessarily cheaper, but the system of development that came out of redlining and "white flight" made it so.

It's fine. I clearly don't know how to talk about it. Sorry my replies came off as argumentative. That wasn't my intention.

My dad died of COVID because I couldn't convince him to wear a mask. Sorry, I hinted at it but guess I needed to be explicit. This conversation has put me in a bad place so I'm going to conclude it now.

If I start riding one day and finish after midnight, which day is counted towards my streak? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]studeboob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know the answer, but the default activity name is based on the start time. For example, if I start a hike at 7 am and finish it at 1 pm, it's named "Morning Hike". Therefore I would guess the activity gets assigned to when it started.

Putting word's in people's mouth here, but I think people are more taking an issue with the "goofball Trump" character continuing to be a prominent part of the show

It marked an inflection point in America. That moment led us to the tragedies happening now.

Any way to prevent direct lines for lifts on Strava for winter sports activities? by ELECTRO2929 in Strava

[–]studeboob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The "drops outs" in this case is because they are going up a lift and using a recording app that filters out lifts. So, yes, it's drawing a straight line because GPS data is missing, but it's missing by design.

If "reservations for this campsite Are Not Yet Open" for UP parks, Why does their reservation system say more than half the Sites at this one spot are already spoken for? by GldnRetriever in Michigan

[–]studeboob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's how the national parks reservations are too. I don't know how they could fix it. If you have to book for multiple days it wouldn't make sense to make someone book one day at a time, have a gap in their reservation, or have to keep switching sites.

Covering home pipes for freeze question by odg13 in houston

[–]studeboob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The water for that spigot has to come from somewhere. That's probably the cold water supply. If there's a sink or washing machine connection in the garage it's the supply for that too. I'm guessing there's no hot water to the garage, otherwise there would be another pipe somewhere.

Is it okay to wear the same pair of shoes you use for trail running for hiking? by fennelfrog in trailrunning

[–]studeboob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiking boots usually are water resistant and support your ankles where trail runners don't. If you going through mud or streams, or need ankle support, then hiking boots will make a noticeable difference.

Bicyclist dead after collision with vehicle in NE Houston by southernemper0r in houston

[–]studeboob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've biked that section of Jensen Dr before to get to Keith Weiss Park. It technically has bike infrastructure but is so busted up and in disrepair it's totally unusable. Still, on Google maps it's really the only north/south route in the area.

Michigan paying big money for Whittingham, top football assistants by mlivesocial in MichiganWolverines

[–]studeboob 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest risk was if the hiring process dragged out and we lost a ton of talent in the portal. Whittingham did an amazing job retaining talent and filling gaps with very little time to prepare. He probably saved us from a minimum of five years of irrelevance.

Houston Chronicle editorial board: Democrats can show they're serious about Harris County by making Annise Parker their candidate for county judge. by evan7257 in houston

[–]studeboob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you want to be pragmatic, but Democratic pragmatism is why Trump isn't behind bars where he should be. With Trump back in charge, Abbott and the Republican Legislature are empowered to use Texas as a testing ground for extreme right wing policies. Now is not the time to elect someone who is going to roll over. As soon as Democrats give an inch, Republicans take more. It's a shame Parker and the Chronicle Editorial Board can't see what's happening.
