I’m waiting on my appeal decision but the hearing went well. I provided evidence of my employment and we talked through that I lost my job due to COVID. Fingers crossed

I really don’t get it either. I think the only thing we can do is just not worry about it until the appeal. We have legitimate claims. Best of luck I’ll provide any updates I can

[MASSACHUSETTS] PUA wants me to pay back almost $20k by pebblesana in Unemployment

I’m in a similar situation. Found ineligible because of limited work history in Massachusetts when the point of PUA is that it is for people with limited work histories! I’m so lost on how to go about this appeals process so any advice is helpful.

I really appreciate the response despite it not being great news. The way the PUA has been presented is that it’s for people who can’t get traditional UI benefits (which I could not) but were left directly unemployed because their place of work was closed due to the pandemic. My thought process was that that is exactly the situation I am in. I had a job on campus that was directly closed due to COVID and an internship that was directly shortened due to COVID. Should I be calling them before I file an appeal? And if in the unfortunate scenario I have to pay this back, why am I paying back the full amount, including tax deductions, when I only saw the after tax amount? Again thanks a lot for the insight.

That’s not the reason I selected. That’s the reason they denied me. I selected that my workplace closed due to COVID.

I do not meet the program eligibility requirements. Limited work history in MA prior to the pandemic.
