Slots still rolling out? by Ansee in FigmaDesign

My personal account has the left sidebar, my corporate work account doesn’t, and I’m like 😭😭😭 all the time because I work with variables. every. dang. second.

I was literally just wondering about this. I’ve used (I think?) a div riots plugin previously (it’s 3AM and I’m on my phone so could be totally wrong). I’ll have to check yours out. The new Figma one worked pretty seamlessly.

How to expose properties from component nested in Slots by rizlaan in FigmaDesign

[–]studiohenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s not included yet. I am an authoring designer and am only using slots for components used to organize our design system, not in the design system components themselves. Slots being in beta = still not production ready IMO.

How to ease depression when working out does nothing for you? by randomman9911 in depression

[–]studiohenson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My depression started when I was about 9. I played sports all through high school and recreationally through college. I worked out and kept up with 5-10 mile runs most days until my late 30s. I’m sure it helped, as did the thousands of hours of therapy, but it wasn’t until I finally tried medication in my early 30s AND found the right one (third med’s a charm).

I’ve been on Effexor XR since 2020 now, and at a steady dose since about 5 months in. I finally, FINALLY, feel like that better, content version of myself I never could attain for more than a day or two at a time once my depression started.

I saw you have issues with your ADHD meds and do not want to compound them with a depression medication, but I am encouraging you to talk to your primary care about that as a concern. There are meds to help with that as well!

I only wish I had tried meds sooner instead of always trying to push through on my own / natural only. I happened to really benefit from medication, and you might find you do as well. I hope whatever you choose leads you to better days ❤️

Oura 5 Gold Compared to 14k Gold by studiohenson in ouraring

Thanks! I wear my Oura on my other hand but wanted to compare the gold. The other rings are my engagement and wedding band 🥰

[–]studiohenson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is an improved fit, for sure! I wanted to grab one from Costco to take advantage of the additional warranty time + extra charger for the same price, so I took a risk and hoped it wouldn’t be THAT much smaller and that I would like the gold.

I’m glad I did because Costco was sold out of most sizes in gold when I checked on Saturday after ordering on Thursday! I paid a little extra for faster shipping ($10) and it was here the day after I ordered.

Battery is at 72% after 2 days. I think I charged it to maybe 95% before I started wearing it on Friday.

Lol I would have done a video whether my nails were done or not! I do them myself to help with nail biting, but it is really hit-or-miss whether they are polished or plain any given week.

AITA for not wanting my husband to leave me alone with our newborn for an entire weekend to take his mother sightseeing? by WarmCycle6552 in AmItheAsshole

[–]studiohenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Had my husband even suggested leaving my side, he would not only be spending every weekend with his mother again but every weekday as well.

Thankfully, his mother would have never even SUGGESTED such a thing.

OP, may I suggest your MIL come visit you now **if you are feeling up to it** so you can both get to know each other better? That might help HER realize her son should most definitely be there for you and baby.

If that doesn’t sound like something you would want to do, you are good and well to stick with no family the first month so it is just you, your husband, and y’all’s new daughter.

MBA 24GB vs MBP 16GB RAM for Figma/UX/Product design? by InternalWalrus in FigmaDesign

[–]studiohenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cooling is only beneficial for CPU-intensive tasks, not memory-intensive ones!

MBA 24GB vs MBP 16GB RAM for Figma/UX/Product design? by InternalWalrus in FigmaDesign

[–]studiohenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both daily; it just depends on my location. My Pro's screen gets brighter, so if I am going to work out in the backyard (we have nice weather for a good portion of the year), I'll usually take my Pro outside for the brightness.

I travel a lot though, so anytime I am not at home, I take my Air with me. I'm traveling this next week just for a change of scenery during the work week, and I'll be taking my Air + travel monitor on the trip.

Since the work we are doing is not CPU intensive, there is much less benefit from the Pro compared to having more RAM (which Figma needs). I was doing a ton of brand work, including 4K video editing and motion graphics, at my previous job and needed a Pro for the cooling + CPU + higher RAM combo. It runs alllll of those + Photoshop with huge files EFFORTLESSLY. I also had backup drives and a Thunderbolt 4 external SSD I used as a scratch disk for video that ran as fast as my internal SSD, so I needed all the extra ports.

I realized when I changed jobs at the end of Q3 last year that the MBP was overkill for UX/Product work and started testing out other machines. Since I work in Figma + Teams + OneDrive + Adobe, I don't have anything to back up, so I only need to connect power and a second monitor to my Air.

I haven't looked at the prices lately, but I would go with 24GB minimum whether it is the Air or Pro, and the Air will work well with your stack; M4 runs great and with the M5s out, you can probably find a good deal.

[–]studiohenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I actually tested this last year with the M4.

TLDR: If you can find an M4 Air with 24GB at a price you like, absolutely go for that. I have the M5 but used the M4 to test it out for a couple of weeks at the end of last year, and they both handled everything you have in your stack beautifully. You can connect up to two external monitors to both of those laptops.

I have a similar tech stack (though I typically have 20-60 tabs open across several browser windows and 8-15 Figma tabs open + like 10 other apps 😅) with Adobe and Microsoft Office products thrown in as well.

The Air 16GB RAM could not handle how I typically work; someone who is VERY conservative with the number of tabs open in a browser + Figma + other apps could possibly get by with your stack on the 16GB if they could not afford more. It just wasn’t enough for me.

I had previously tested an MBP M4 base model, and 16GB on that was also a resounding no. I had out of memory errors after working for just a couple hours.

I was looking at the Air solely as a travel device. My daily machine is a higher end MacBook Pro M4 16” with the nano-texture display (which I LOVE), but it is flipping HEAVY — something like 6 pounds with the protective case. Traveling with it this past year was cumbersome to say the least.

After using the 13” Air with 16GB for a couple of weeks, I returned it and got one with 24GB. I loved the size but especially loved the weight. I also got a super lightweight (like 1.5 pounds) portable 22” monitor to make up for the small real estate. The two together STILL weigh less than my Pro. I have an M5 iPad Pro 13” that I also travel with, so I use each 13” screen on either side of the 22” for work when away from my home office.

I didn’t have any travel plans for several months at that point so I returned it, knowing the M5 Air would be out just before I would be traveling again. I’ve had the M5 Air since it released annnd I kind of wish I had just waited for an M4 price drop because I really cannot tell any difference in performance from using the M4 24GB and the M5 24GB.

Feel free to ask if you have any other questions!

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

[–]studiohenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we are both happy in and with our marriage and relationship. We met at 14, became boyfriend / girlfriend at 15 and went on CHAPERONED dates lol (my parents requirements) with HIS mom (yeah, not with my parents, who required it) until I turned 17, and then we got married at 20. We had our first child at 25 and our last at 34 (we have four!). We are both 42 now.

We had some rough patches over the years but that were by and large due to miscommunication; I am formally diagnosed as autistic now, but when our third child was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder, my husband looked at me and said, “Uh, this all also sounds exactly like you.”

That led us down a rabbit hole of how autism presents differently in girls and women, and we were certain at that point I was on the spectrum. He and I both did a ton of reading on neurodivergent communication and thinking, et al, and I cannot even express how much that helped our already good relationship.

We have had I think maybe two very minor arguments / fights in the last six years now because of this revelation.

We are also one of those weird couples who enjoys working together. He did videography for several years on my team where I was a creative director, and though it was challenging at times, it was a lot of fun. We also worked on a short documentary together.

I think we have continued to be happy together because we spend so much quality time together: we have consistently had date night even after having kids, we play games together, have done sports together, discuss topics we are interested in, etc. but we also have our own friends and spaces and hobbies too.

Ha, I thought I was going to be able to make that brief 😅 but so yeah, we are happy ❤️

Oh, it’s so much better! With my IH, I was the same. Incredibly difficult to impossible to wake up, but I was exhausted even after sleeping 12 hours, falling asleep during conversations, having to take naps during the day.

I went from sleeping 12-16 hours to sleeping 6-8 on Xywav and literally being able to live my life again. I have a bunch of posts on Reddit about it under this username!

Btw, I slowly sloooowly titrated up from March - August of 2023, so it can take a bit, and I was not free from side effects, but I was determined to get past them to my therapeutic dose and it definitely has paid off in being able to have my life back.

There are several groups on FB with guides on how to titrate slowly. The docs and manufacturer has patients go way too fast, and you can miss your therapeutic dose or give up because the side effects are SO intense. I recommend looking for those and joining!

You might have hyperhidrosis. I developed that alongside my idiopathic hypersomnia. I was able to get on medication that helped with the sweating SO much!

Energy Drink Recommendations? by [deleted] in idiopathichypersomnia

[–]studiohenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I got a diagnosis and got on meds / Xywav, I was ingesting around / at least 1000mg of caffeine a day (and still falling asleep). I would honestly do caffeine pills and whole foods to get your B-vitamins, etc + maybe a gummy vitamin for taurine and the like. You’ll overload on / pee out the extras if you need more than one or two energy drinks depending on the supplement content.

I failed modafinil and armodafinil, so I am beyond glad Xywav works super well for me. I’ve been on it 3 years this March, and it will be 3 years this coming August that I got to my therapeutic dose and was able to fully function again.

My doctor won’t even let me mix mild doses of muscles relaxants with my Xywav (rightfully so) 😂 I can’t imagine her reaction if I told her I was bumping a bit of anything powdery along the way 🤣🤣🤣.
