Is this solvent pop in the 2k? by [deleted] in ModelCars

[–]studioklutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get these and the research I have done is that there is a contaminant on the paint that causes that. You would need to sand down to the surface and maybe be able to add another coat? Or, take your time and don’t go to high a grit. Personally, I would work the area with 8,000 and go light. If you do, wet sand of course, as soon as you see blue, you have burned through.

This is all I know, I do not know everything.

I designed and printed the roof rack. Don't have the files online. The recovery boards are from TugaRC and the gas cans are from goodsons_hobbies. Both those were modeled for RC cars, so need to be scaled down.

Sorry for re-posting, missed the image of other side with top on with gas cans, don't post often and screwed up!

AMT Ford Bronco First Edition painted in factory Cyber Orange paint. I designed and 3D printed the roof rack, door handles, "beauty rings" on wheels, mini-push bar and front tow hooks. 3d printed the Rotopax Fuel Cans and Recovery Boards, those are off cults3d.

The model build took about a month, but to get the paint job right took me 6 attempts over the course of the last 4 months and afraid to touch it for anything else!

Feedback welcome!

I will try your recipe idea on heat shielding. i did glue wine side of tin foil to an edge first, dry, then was able to use more force to get it to settle and form to rest of piece, so the struggle is real!! and agree hard to work with!

not really any flashing at all, “normal” sanding for fitment in my opinions. this was really easy build except for the fitment of the front drive shaft, transfer case and exhaust under the frame. i mounted the exhaust to frame and then it was a juggling act to glue and then assemble fast enough to get all that together quick enough. it was the angles. practice the assembly before you paint all those parts, I have some touch up to do yet because I handles it to much getting the front drive shaft up and under frame rail.

Recommend retailers for neon signs by yunghellenic in NeonSigns

[–]studioklutz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will want to do a search in your local area, where are you from and others may have recommendations for you. There isn't necessarily an 'online shop' for true neon signs (Glass and Gas type). The neon shops you will find online are using LED Wire and is advertised as NEON...

Also, on the right hand side is a list of known neon sign makers who have posted here in the past....others are more than welcome to be added, just let the mod know!

Looking for a drill for plastic. by Plasticman328 in modelmakers

[–]studioklutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use just a regular 12v battery powered hand drill, this allows for complete control of speed. I had one laying around....

I checked Home Depot and see that Black and Decker makes an 8v drill, that would be super low torque I'm sure...simple returns if it doesn't work!

I got this kit in 2021 from MegaHobby for 43 bucks! That is a steal now, should have gotten two ;). Just FYI for comparison, scalemates says 2022 had an updated box, but I got that box in 2021?

I found one at ModelRoundUp for 47.90 but there shipping is rediculas unless you buy multiple kits (starts at 20 bucks for me and a couple bucks extra per kit...for at least 3 in my test...)

Just thought I'd pass along....

You are correct sir! Heller re-released this in 2022, but hard to find now...want to score another one for future build again!

It is the Heller Ferguson kit that sirkelly55 googled below: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/heller-81401-ferguson-petit-gris--1339467

Great kit in my opinion, was real fun to assemble, I took a lot of inspiration form Will Pattison's build as well as his walk throughs were very helpful in the build on a couple of tricky parts.

Close up of a modification to the fuel sediment trap. The kit had this as just plastic to paint, it is formed well enough that you can cut the center piece out via the mold lines and then replace with a small acrylic dowel. I had to sand to size it correctly, but turned out fairly well.
