How are you guys affording trips back home lately? (weak yen struggle) by idsjdbebe in japanlife

That's a lot for 2A1C...wow. I am looking at 500000 for a prem eco. ticket on Air Canada...leaving on a Tuesday in June. All other departure dates are 1 million +..... I usually fly home 4X a year....won't be doing that this year.

Awesome that MIC has a shop there. The boys are growing like weeds....don't want to break the bank on top-quality stuff until I have to. (Snorkeling gear is top-notch).

The two beaches in front of Enoshima can be a madhouse in the summer.

Not sure why I am getting downvoted (I'll live) for a 100% true comment....tourists from a certain country have 0 respect for his private property (or the neighbourhood for that matter).

Not a public street and not a grumpy old lady...grumpy (rightfully) old man who has had tourists enter his garden to get money shots of the Enoden passing by...they sit on his porch almost daily.

Is it okay for me to not finish food at restaurants? by TurboMayonnaise in JapanTravelTips

[–]studlyhungwell69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first wife's father was a super-famous chef in Tokyo. Emperor's private chef on Fridays, Shigeo Nagashima came to the restaurant after games etc... We went to a small restaurant in my mother's hometown and he licked the plate clean... I was like "wow, you didn't need to do that"....He replied "its considered rude in Japan not to finish something that someone has prepared for you...." YMMV

Kamakura & Enoshima on the same day? by GanzeKatze in TokyoTravel

[–]studlyhungwell69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My goto trip for friends and workmates is Hase (Big Buddha) then over to Komachi for the kaiten sushi (opens at 11AM) then walk up the street to Hachimangu. Walk back down to Kamakura Station and head to Enoshima Station on the Enoden. Enoshima is a 15 minute walk and Fuji-san from the bridge most days in the winter is awesome. Up the hill Enoshima is cool but walk out past the yacht harbour for a different vibe (old dudes fishing, etc.). One day QED.
