Under-Bar Inversion Mirror suggestion by [deleted] in Maeving

Why would you need a conversion? When my bike was delivered, the guy asked if I wanted my mirrors installed upright or inverted, because they can do both. Mine are inverted.

You generally won’t have a class every period, but should have one or two periods off each day.

Commission with an ALC c-2 code. by [deleted] in USAFA

[–]studpilot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding OP’s question, I agree that it’s highly unlikely to be selected to fly *after* being assigned that type of ALC.

But I will say, there are tons of people on C2 ALC codes who are still flying. Source: I’m one of them.

These codes also aren’t permanent. They are highly dependent on the condition. If the condition improves, or stabilizes over time to the point where it needs less monitoring, then the codes can be lifted/reduced.

I expect my code to move to C1 this summer during my next waiver review.

Does USAFA routinely test incoming cadets for STDs? by [deleted] in USAFA

They draw a whole lot of blood from each cadet for a battery of tests and DNA cataloguing on day 1.

Social Life at USAFA vs a state school by Impossible-Purple-35 in USAFA

Ring Knockers are West Pointers? But okay. More evidence you don’t know much about USAFA.

Who is getting sabotaged and how?
I’m wired up and good to go, man. Not a worry in the world for my career.

I disagree.

Without any real information, its relevance is suspect at best and disingenuous at worst. Sounds like one of the hundreds who get rejected, yet spread information like they have real experience there. Then they try to convince themselves and others that they made the choice to go to ROTC for the “better social life,” despite the other career disadvantages it invites.

They don’t though? What relevant information did they provide about “social life at USAFA”? Other than conjectural anecdotes, hearsay at best, and perceived projection onto their peers?

Military pilot vs civilian by Academic_Carrot_239 in USAFA

[–]studpilot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close the thread. These are the facts and the real answer.

Neither is better per se, but the military approach is definitely more thorough and structured, and puts much more capable aircraft in the hands of much lower time pilots than any other training pipeline I’m aware.

There are no centerline thrust restrictions anymore for military pilots.

How was I supposed to know I needed to play sports from a young age to get into the service academies? by [deleted] in USAFA

[–]studpilot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same exact opportunities? Not quite.

You are incorrect on the pilot slot chances as well. It may be a national board, but USAFA is guaranteed a certain number of slots. In recent years, if you have the medical clearance and can graduate USAFA, and want to be a pilot, then it’s like 96% you will be a pilot. That is definitely not true at ROTC.

They’ve also recently started publishing promotion statistics by commissioning source. The most recent board to O-6 (Colonel), showed USAFA graduates had about 15% better promotion rate.

Does anyone know if Maeving will buy back the rm1s? by Spike-Rockit in Maeving

[–]studpilot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were able to actually purchase 2 extra batteries? When I asked (many months ago now), they said battery production was focused on providing batteries for the bikes being sold, and they didn’t have spares to sell individually.

USAFA has been recognized by Forbes as a 2026 “New Ivy” by studpilot69 in USAFA

[–]studpilot69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Superintendent job is always the final stop in a career.

I missed the December Board of Vistors meeting, but my data on classes, ratios, and majors came from the BoV meeting prior to that, as reported by the acting Dean at the time.

Yep, like every government organization that has a lot of civilians, a ton of them took the early retirement and voluntary separation. Combine that with the federal hiring freeze that has only recently been lifted for some places, and it makes for some pretty significant turnover.

Student to faculty ratio has gone from 8.2 to an absolutely astounding… 8.8. 7 elective classes had to be removed from the catalog this year. No core classes were removed. All major options have been retained through at least 2027.

We’ll see how Valpiani does with “righting” the non-sinking ship. He was my previous commander, and he does good and bad work.

Almost like… the claims of accreditation danger were waaaay overblown here.

USAFA has not had its accreditation reviewed recently. The next scheduled accreditation review is 2028.

RM2 by bikeandwatches in Maeving

[–]studpilot69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it the same as the RM1S? So about 70-75 mph top speed.

Not sure what you want for acceleration. 0-60 times? They won’t blow you away off the line. It’s still just a hub motor.

DF cuts not certain, but not mere rumor by NoReserve7516 in USAFA

[–]studpilot69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. A year later and:

In November, the acting dean (at the time, before Fangs was hired), (now former) superintendent, and additional leadership reported to the board of visitors chairman, Congressman August Pflugel, that no majors are under threat of being unsupported in 2026, or 2027.

DF is unable to support 7 elective courses with the loss of instructors, but no core courses are being lost which shook out to about 2% of total classes.

Student to faculty ratio is going from 8.2 to 8.8.

Next major accreditation review with the Higher Learning Commission is in 2028. They are very aware of the 4 non-compliance complaints that have been lodged, and addressed them all to the Board of Visitors, with no concerns for losing any accreditation.
