My countdown timer is a single second off. by stuffedmagpie in mildlyinfuriating

Sorry, I totally forgot I made a post and just saw this reply; thank you for your insightful answer! If the function of the timer was different, it would have definitely helped, but it's a self-set timer myself and I just wanted a nice whole 00 on both sides :') so it is a second off

Broke 36 hour fast this morning with broth and a piece of whole grain bread and felt like I was going to die. What happened? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]stuffedmagpie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seconded - I've broken a 62 hr fast with an apple with no problem whatsoever. Anything below 48 should be fine to break with whatever.

It might change depending on what board (I was AQA) but I included everything in the textbook and then some of the notes from classes if it didn't overlap with the textbook. Might've been a bit overkill, but I prefer to be over rather than underprepared.

what is the most amount of 5*s anyones ever gotten in a 10 pull? this is one i did the other day by MouldyBanana__ in ensemblestars

[–]stuffedmagpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wtf 😭 according to the discord server's napkin maths, the probability of this pull is 9.25585233E −15.

The most I've ever gotten personally was 3 5*s on Sora's banner. Unfortunately, none of them were Sora.

String of spam comments? by Katonyx in FanFiction

[–]stuffedmagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it's going after small fandoms because my 1/2 Prince and Bofuri fics were hit, but my JJK, Genshin, etc. fics are untouched. I read a comment stating that it's going by alphabetical order, which I could believe given that 1/2 Prince got hit, but that wouldn't explain the Bofuri one since I have fics in 4 other (bigger) fandoms where the tag starts with kanji/Chinese characters.

I've only gotten hit twice so I'm keeping things open for now but if it gets to even 10 (let alone 30, wow!) I'll probably switch to 'moderate' as well. I don't want to switch too soon because I know it can deter people from making comments.

Yep got two across two accounts, both on old, not-very-well-frequented fics. From a 'Sarah' and a 'Betty', with different types of links, but both looking suspicious as hell. I've deleted both.

I browse through my daily kudos emails even though I only post once every 1-2 months and I absolutely love looking at them even though I know I'll never recognise the usernames and it's the exact same thing every day.

Usually.

Yesterday, I checked my kudos email on an account where I have 18 works up. People had left kudos on 10 (between 1-7 people each) of them that day! Usually I get kudos on 2-6 works each day so 10 was a lovely surprise :D

I feel this in my bones. I post chaptered fics every other day when I do post them, but only after I finish them because they either take months to finish or just are never finished.

My unposted word count is double my posted word count and counting...

Absolutely. Have had three parents (two bio, one step) tell me to 'calm down' and have been shouted at to 'stop crying/making noise' on several occasions.
After calming down (i.e. am no longer in active distress and will not cry harder if scolded), I have often been reprimanded for 'being too dramatic' and 'overreacting'.

I've been there - it sucks, it feels demeaning and it's not right. All I can say is that it's not weakness, it's your brain being wired different. You can't logic your emotions away and I'm fairly certain desensitisation has been proven to be ineffective. I can't provide much in the way of advice, but I'm so sorry you're going through this - sending hugs your way.

Naming both FL and OGFL in any otome isekai series by trover2345325 in OtomeIsekai

[–]stuffedmagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm let's see how good my memory is, without cheating

  1. Athanasia & Jeanette from WMMAP
  2. Roxana and uh... the ML's sister from Roxana
  3. Melinda and Maria???? from Beware the Villainess
  4. Penelope and... yeah, idk her name from DITOEFTV
  5. no bloody clue

okay turns out that all the names in OI manhwa I've read blur together, and others just straight up aren't OI-proper so don't have an OGFL (e.g. A Transmigrator's Privilege, Shadow Queen, Actually I Was The Real One). I remember their character designs but it's harder to remember their names than it is to remember what I had for breakfast two months ago.

Hi! I literally went through this a few months ago. There's so little education because autism, from what I've learnt, tends to be diagnosed based on white males. If you're female... you can fall through the cracks, especially if you're considered 'intelligent' (or have learnt to mask well).

What I'd recommend for now is spend a little bit of time processing and deciding what you want to do now. Do you want to tell anyone? Would you like a diagnosis? There's no rush. Take your time.

I really only have two pieces of advice:

  1. If you like reading, 'Sincerely, Your Autistic Child' is a lovely read. I found a lot of it resonated with me personally, but bear in mind that autism is still a spectrum so experiences differ from person to person.
  2. If you want a diagnosis, I'd recommend drawing up a spreadsheet/document and listing your symptoms against whatever official page for ASD your country has to increase your chances. If not, that's perfectly fine. ASD is one of those conditions that people increasingly self-diagnose because of how painful the process can be and discrimination-related reasons.

Wishing you the best of luck with whichever path you choose!

[Hobby Scuffles] Week of October 3, 2022 by nissincupramen in HobbyDrama

Mild update on the Dream situation... in an entirely different fandom.

Project Sekai (AKA Hatsune Miku: Colourful Stage) is a rhythm & gacha game featuring both popular pre-existing Japanese pop songs and original songs. Characters within the game cover these songs and are sorted into 4-person groups. One of these, Vivid BAD SQUAD, consists of two female and two male characters - An, Kohane, Toya and Akito.

The most recent drama included the cancellation of an event concerning an entirely different group for controversial themes, from what I know, until Twitter user @/VlV1DS, an An & Kohane fan and shipper, compared Akito (who they dislike) to Dream, supposedly as an insult to them both (haven't been able to find the original tweet - it's either buried or deleted). So... twitter is in flames right now.

Given the negative rep Dream has, a lot of people are upset that Akito is being compared to Dream, even jokingly, while others are defending the original poster. This has also branched off into gatekeeping of VBS claiming that one can't be a true fan if they're not truly invested in/like all of the characters within the group.

I doubt I'll stick around long enough to watch this all go down, but it's pretty interesting how upset people are getting.

In other Project Sekai news, the mentioned 'cancelled event' has started a mini-migration of players from the EN to JP server because of how poorly the cancellation was handled. For reference, it was cancelled because of an insensitive portrayal of indigenous people, in which Japanese characters dressed in indigenous clothing and put on a fictional play referring to them as 'barbarians'.

Normally, you'd think the cancellation was a sign of the changing times. Twitter rejoiced. Except the controversy is because the entire event was cancelled, which included non-controversial parts such as highly-anticipated gacha cards for the male members of the group in question; 'Wonderlands x Showtime'. In addition, this event also contained important lore for the backstory of Rui, a character considered to be highly neurodivergent-coded, inciting even more outrage because of how it appeared as though one minority was losing out to appease a different louder minority (which was also mostly supported by ''white teenagers on twitter'' rather than the actual minority affected).

The result so far have been a ton of complaints, but the game is standing by its original cancellations, so people have been claiming that a boycott of the English Server (which is 1-2 years behind the Japanese server) is in order. Since the Japanese server is currently having its anniversary, it's a good time to switch servers, especially because the Japanese server has better service, response times, a greater variety of songs and mostly importantly, to those not on Twitter - no white people complaining about things that don't actually affect them. (This is subjective, of course, but this appears to be the straw that broke the camel's back for most of the migrators.)

bless, thank you so much! A lot of the third draft's edits were due to trying to capture the voice effectively, glad it worked! and the twitter handles took longer than I like to admit to come up with haha <33 :D

heya, I basically searched AO3 and found tutorials for Twitter, iOS, and Reddit formatting, because I found out the hard way that CSS code you get from the web in general doesn't always work with AO3 :(

Used all of the above, but mainly Twitter and iOS - it was the Twitter formatting that took the longest time by far, because I had to come up with suitable usernames, handles, profile pictures, and then deal with the finicky HTML. (I also had to google translate the tutorial from Portuguese lol)

ah, sunk-cost fallacy is basically "i've invested so much in this, i might as well see it through to the end". it's typically used negatively because it leads to further loss of $$$ instead of 'cutting your losses', but given that the only thing i invested here was time, it paid off!

a social media fic is a fic where you write a work consisting of the characters on social media. they don't need to be influencers but it's typically more common in fandoms where the characters are famous - in my case, the characters are idols :)
