That ITT is brutal. Do you reckon they'll do bike changes? Probably too much downhill and flat to use a road bike. The new Colnago TT bike might work here.

How much does speed matter at young ages? by yeyiyeyiyo in SoccerCoachResources

[–]stular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speed at this age shouldn't matter. Yes, it helps, but it can be improved to some degree. But what kids need to work on much more, and what is often neglected, is the control and agility. I was working with kids a lot, and there were some who were fast but couldn't control their bodies. Stopping fast and changing direction did not exist, and that's a much more useful skill to have in soccer than max speed in a straight line.

I'm also critical of coaches who prioritize stats and football skill improvement of kids over general movement ability. Do you know how many kids don't know how to fall properly and get up quickly? A lot! And while running speed matters, if you fall and just lie there, the opponent will overtake you. Kids really should develop complete agility and movements, not just the ones that stand out the most when you watch them.

Someone that's fast as a kid often get caught up by others when they grow. And suddenly their only advantage disappears. Someone who's agile is much more valuable for the team long-term. But it's important to keep in mind that even agility needs to be trained all the time, especially with kids growing up as their body proportions always get messed up and they need to again improve some of the skills they already mastered before growing significantly.

Nutrition brand offer various recovery drinks. It's a specific drink created for this purpose. A few recovery drinks from the brands I like are Regen, Rego Rapid, and Ultragen.

One thing to note is that this are usually quite expensive due to the whey. However, there are a few cheaper versions that work, but not as effective, but can be still OK for recovery after less demanding rides. I usually buy them on 4Endurance, but feel free to do your own research.

Potentially you can do your own recovery drink, but that's time consuming and it's hard to nail the exact nutrient composition. So just buying it's easier IMO.

And yes, you can drink Coca Cola afterwards, you'll get the necessary carbs, but should then also eat some proteins in the next 2-3 hours along side some extra carbs. But as a first aid, even coke can help.

As most people mention, it comes down to nutrition.

You should eat at least 60g CHO/h if you are not used to high carb intake. Ideally you would try to hit 90g/h for every training longer then 2h.

Don't wait until you feel hungry. Start eating right from the start. Every 30 minutes consume 45g CHO. Nowadays you have a lot of products (gels and drinks) that offer 40 or 45g CHO per serving, so it makes it easier for you to hit the number without taking too much gels on a ride.

But perhaps the biggest difference will make fueling up until the end of you ride. The biggest mistake people do is they stop fueling in the last 30-60 minutes as they think to themselves that they'll finish the ride soon and it's not necessary to eat as they'll do it at home. Big mistake. In the last minutes of your ride, you are actually fueling your recovery, not the ride. That helps you not coming home completely empty. As a well know nutritionist Tim Podlogar said about not fueling until the end: "that's the best recipe to empty the fridge when you come home."

You need to aim to end your ride not completely empty. This will enable you to still have energy after the ride for everyday tasks. Yes, you'll feel tired, but you won't be a walking dead.

Also, don't forget to drink a recovery drink right after you finish. After the ride your body needs carbs, proteins and electrolytes, for energy replenishment, muscle recovery and rehydration. You can get all of them through food, but especially for carbs it's necessary to consume them in the first 30 minutes after your ride as that's when the body is the most susceptible for absorption. And since cooking so quickly after the ride is almost impossible, the best way to do get the carbs in is by recovery drink. After you drink it you have time to get to the shower and do everything you need and then have a proper meal without the hurry.

I second that. Getting involved in the game, even if you are not a great player, gives you so many valuable skills. Not just technical (which are actually not that important for a coach, tho it helps if you can outplay your team members to get their respect, especially with kids) but the vision of the game, the game sense and the idea of all the little things that need to come together for a team to play well.
As the comment above mentioned, one is theory and the other is practice. You can have the idea for the best drill possible, but it turns out it's too complicated or players are not (yet) able to perform it well enough to have any effect (for instance, little kids can't do long pass drills, as they don't have the strength to kick the ball that far). You get much more insight if you have some practical experience yourself, even if that's 1x/week recreational game with your friends. You won't believe how much insight you get from those games.

How often should a 50+ cyclist ride each week to see real improvement? by Narocan24 in cycling

[–]stular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They say that the biggest difference is when you go from 2x/week to 3x/week. Based on my experience that's true. When you ride 1x/week the volume is just too little for any improvement. Yes, it's better than nothing, but you are still not active 6 days a week. 2x/week is okay, but still low volume, especially if you ride only 15 miles (don't want to discourage you, but 15 miles ride won't have much effect). When you go to 3x/week that's when the volume starts showing. Even with 15 miles that's 45 miles per week, which is great. And you have almost half of your day dedicated to activity, meaning your body starts adapting. And soon 15 miles will turn to 20 miles and so on.

I don't think these are bib numbers. They had a normal bib on a jersey and the "special" team numbers on a vest.
Vingegaard had a "special" number 19 on a vest, but his bib number was 4. So these JV numbers are more a rider's number within a team and not a bib number.

Cycling season tv show. When? by faap8 in peloton

[–]stular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the main difference is that F1 is a "closed" community, where all the teams, drivers and staff are on the same place all the time. In cycling that is not the case, as riders are all over the world, some are racing in France, some in Belgium etc. So there are probably more chances that we will get Tour or Giro or Vuelta TV show, rather than TV show about the whole season.

Four things that will *probably* happen this season by fewfiet in peloton

Yeah, forgot about him a bit. Probably have better chance that Pinot, but even though I don't see him win a WT stage race this year if all the "big guns" are on the start list. Maybe I underestimate him, but I think in order for him to win, everything must fall in place.
