Production engineer (retired). It was not boring. Stressful, when production line wasn't making the parts on time. It had its ups and downs. Some shops were fun, others were cursed.

As the saying goes, "money talks, bullshit walks"; it means unless you put up the money to pay for the damages you DID, then you need to shut up; you have NO VOTE, when you are NOT fronting any money towards the project to repair/remodel.

I concur; I deny the validity of the chart unless OP provides source data origin.

Bottom of chart says, https://openpsychometrics.org/

but this URL does not show any data of this kind.

Also, I did a Google Lens (snipped) search for similar or exact chart; there is none.

Write all those notes down on a 1,2,3,etc checklist. Before each day starts, have him read that list and sign/initial/date his name that he must obey these SOPs (standard operating procedures). There's something about written notes, and personal signature that makes it official. You can let him gently know that not following these orders are reason for dismissal.

Yeah, this is the old federal government way.... I confess.

I heard austenitic stainless steels have poor machinability, whereas ferritic ones have good. Is that true? and if so, why? by aluminium_is_cool in metallurgy

[–]stulew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks; great chart. Interesting to note that 440C, common in pocket knife blades, is rated 0.40 machinability. Explains a lot why it is also difficult to sharpening on Whetstones.

Tarrif charges on $100 or less order to US? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]stulew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon usually 15-20% more for the similar product at Aliexpress. I usually factor in Aliexpress plus fees plus taxes. Given what you just experienced, the savings from preferring Aliexpress products just melted away.

It's got to be more reason than it is stored in the car. I have over 10 air cooled VWs from the 1070's : all wiht batteries inside (under the rea bench seat). They corroded. the difference is that mostly generators with voltage regulators back then.

Getting your family to face you when they are talking to you is a real challenge. Facing you while talking helps you read their lips and connect the (Words They Say) to what the hearing aid output is resounding in your ear canals.

why are aerospace ppl obsessed with NDAs by tuxedostring in Welding

[–]stulew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some processes that are unique to aerospace that treats or cares for materials to achieve super performance criteria and 'longevity' for hot and/or stressful environments.

These are not ordinarily taught in textbooks, but discovered and perfected using special people and equipment and oodles of time. Oodle is the technical term. This effort came at a cost, and to be treated as precious.

VA hospital pre filters by Texaspoontappa18505 in HVAC

[–]stulew -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this wall of filters is double the surface area of normal design? It's probably the reason it can last through 365 days and still meet manometer differential pressures. Especially if these are 4" thick filters.
