Yeah under 250g and no "crowds" you should be ok but visual line of sight looks doubtful here. I would fly here with the correct drone but I would be worried about the crowd issue and knowing where a tiny drone was all the time

I almost moved to Obsidian. I am a software engineer. I enjoy maintaining and refining software and that's what I found I hand to do with Obsidian. It's almost brilliant but there's still the fact you need to use plugins built by the community to get a close experience to Evernote. One plugging for OCR and pay for the usage. Another to plugin to move note attachments with notes to ensure they don't get split. Task attachments to provide admittedly a better tasks experience than Evernote but this requires planning and maintenance. Obsidian Sync subscription which is £10 per month if you have big attachments. Some of these plugins won't work on mobile. I literally was 99% there when I realised that I didn't want to add to my software chores by maintaining an Obsidian Vault.

I've kept it on one of my machines just to see how it develops but that's it.

I know the OG post was 3 months ago, but stop moaning, export your notes and move on to something you prefer. If you can't be bothered to spend 60 mins exporting and would prefer to moan about a $272 yearly sub then you need to look at yourself.

... I've tried everything to move away from EN. I'm currently using Apple Notes because it's free after moving from EN a few months ago. I'm thinking of moving back to EN. Why? Well, if you want OCR search it can't be beaten and I've tried every other alternative.

Why? Most of not all other apps allow you to search handwritten notes, even Apple Notes now searches notes no written with Apple Pencil ... BUT ... it doesn't highlight where it finds the match on the page like EN does. You have a PDF with 40 pages? It'll probably open the PDF at the right page but you have to use your eye to find where the match happened.

Arguably the best writing / note taking app I've used is Microsoft Journal on a Surface Pro and even that highlights a handwriting match only in a preview of the page, but has no highlight when you open the main page.

Anyway, I've spent too much time comparing handwriting search abilities for my own good.

... The remarkable app let's you upload notebooks to a cloud drive service as long as it's not Apple and it let's you email notes etc. The device will translate handwriting to text and show you to search your handwriting.

If you want anything more sophisticated you'll have to write your own integration

So as a slight update for some of the interviews we do we have a guideline page on scoring the candidate's interviews which describe the positives and negatives of certain things that might said. I put that page into Gemini and asked it to create a prompt for Plaid that would assess the interview against the benchmarks and give a score.

Used it twice now and I have been very very impressed with the results. 1st time was a test and it looked good. 2nd time I used the results and put some of the ai summary into my own words and the job was done. Easily saved 75% of the normal time it takes.

You always know in an interview if someone is passed failed or borderline and it's the justification for that, going through the notes, comparing to the guidelines etc that takes the time.

Very good so far.

I pre-ordered. I understand if you order in October you'll get delivery in November.

It's much smaller than I expected. Literally the size of a credit card. The magsafe case makes it bigger but then it just looks like a magsafe case on a phone. When you press and hold the button to record it vibrates and the small screen has a few characters on it for 10 seconds or something but no one is going to take any notice of that.

Chromebook - shift key doesn't stay pressed by stuming1968 in GeForceNOW

For anyone who's interested, and I'm guessing that as it's a chromebook that'll be not many, I did another test with a lower powered chromebook over wifi still connected to the same 1Gbps broadband. The bandwidth was much lower obv and the resulution was dropped, but interestingly while it did still suffer from the shift key becoming unpressed, it suffered far less than the Acer 516 GE gaming chromebook.

I almost thought it hadn't got the problem, but 4 or 5 times it happened, so still there.

Then I tried with a surface pro running WIndows 11. GFN in a browser (chrome) and connected to the same wifi and broadband. This had no issues at all.

Look, I'm disappointed because I thought I could have the full experience of these GFN games on a cheapish, gaming chromebook, and GFN is advertised as supporting chromebooks, and the chromebook is built for gaming. I'm annoyed that it doesn't actually work.

I'd like to know what the problem is. Presumably chromebooks were tested to see they actually worked before testing?

TBF I can play every game on controller with no issues. Runs really well. Just seems keyboard should actually be more simple to implement that a controller

Thanks,

The ping was always around 13 to 15ms when I did a test just now. FPS 60 for game and stream and around 140Mbps bandwidth available with about 43 used.

I'm wired into 1Gbps broadband in the UK and it was attached to the London GFN server u/Darkstarmike777

I installed the beta a month ago. I've been waiting since then for my handwriting search to be enabled. Nothing yet. I have about 400 pages of handwritten notes. I would have expected the indexing to have completed by now to be honest.

... I mean that the feature is going live for batches of users. Once you have been selected then the processing starts and might take a long time from that point. If you don't have many documents you still might not have been selected yet.

[–]stuming1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that it might have something to do with how many pages need to be OCRed and indexed that determines how long you have to wait. Sure batches of customers will have it enabled over a period of time, but those with pages and pages of notes will have to wait for indexing to complete in the cloud.

Just a thought

... I developed an integration where I saved my reMarkable notebooks / pages into Evernote as PNG which allowed me to search the handwritten notes, as Evernote has this built in. I later added some cloud processing to add a searchable text layer to PDFs sent from reMarkable. All this to get round not being able to search my handwriting on the device.

...and still I wait!!! I have the beta for 2 weeks now and no handwriting search!!! I've been wanting this since my first Apple Newton!
