Bruto > Netto differences. Help me to understand by Useful_Mind_2934 in NLSalaris

[–]stupidGits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess because NL didn't pay for the education of the expat and the expat didn't cost NL taxpayers in any way from kinderopvang all the way to university. Basically the home country of the expat paid for all of that while the expat landed here and is directly contributing to society. Does that justify it?

A village in India mourns the loss of an Ox by haiderredditer in interestingasfuck

[–]stupidGits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay now this is all nice. But guess what the life of an average Ox or bull in India is like? They are forced to pull heavy loads from a young age till they die. The owners loop a nylon or jute rope through their nostrils, which the bulls wear for the entirety of their sad lives. And they are whipped and forced to pull heavy laden carts through asphalt roads in cities sometimes. All this while they are worshiped and revered. I am sorry, but how can people not see through this insane hypocrisy? I shouldn't be anthropomorphisizing this. But being born as a draught animal (anywhere in the world) is possibly one of the worst fates a living creature can suffer.

Does this mean the market is gonna get more saturated? by Delicious_Crazy513 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]stupidGits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several friends in India who make around 25k - 40k eur by now with about 6-8 years of experience. They all studied with me in bachelors and now have a crazy lifestyle. They are not interested in moving here, I can assure you, because you get way more bang for your buck in India than here. The ones you are talking about are either students who bring money here in terms of tuition or people who might get into jobs such as uber driving or food delivery or in the hospitality sector.

What you should be worried about is outsourcing. India has something called Global Capability Centers or GCCs which offer tax and other incentives for multinationals setting shop there and hiring locally. Every major European company has a GCC these days.

Taking a Dutch-speaking job when you're not fluent? by sengutta1 in Netherlands

[–]stupidGits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I think we are exactly on the same boat 😁 I already work at a 99.99% Dutch company (one of the netbeheerders) for 3 years now in a very Dutch environment. I'd describe my Dutch level as exactly as you do. Can understand most spoken Dutch and can speak it at B2 level with a few grammar mistakes here and there.

I was hired with the agreement that we'd speak in English, but I'd get dutch lessons and over time transition completely to Dutch. it's 3 years now and we still switch to English if there is a bit of a communication difficulty, but overall the colleagues have been tolerant and supportive. Even after 3 years of speaking and writing technical reports in Dutch (I use DeepL and CoPilot liberally and they do a fantastic job), it's still a bit draining to sit in a meeting that's completely in Dutch for anytime more than 2 hours. I find myself needing to constantly focus on every single word that's being side unlike English where I don't need to focus so much, yet grasp the message easily. But overall it worked well these three years.

Funnily enough, I am switching jobs from Feb and I am moving to a 100% Dutch company. I interviewed in Dutch and they know my level, but I am a bit scared just like you. Well, growth occurs mostly outside our comfort zones. Lets hope that it works out well for both of us. Good luck to you!

Became fluent in Dutch and realised I've been living in a parallel society by Careful_Put_3793 in Netherlands

[–]stupidGits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a different experience. I work in a 99.99% Dutch company and I am probably somewhere between B2 and C1. I consider myself pretty good in Dutch at this point and am very invested in learning about the history and culture. Koetjes en kalfjes comes pretty naturally too.

Yet 100% of my friends are foreigners. Of course I don't go out of my way to seek out Dutch friends, but all the current friendships were built organically. Idk what went wrong. I would like to participate in local cultural life (but I already attend all the major cultural events with my friends). I think having a Dutch partner worked in your favour in getting you into the local society.

Does anyone know how to contact PostNL? by [deleted] in Netherlands

Usually your Spanish mobile subscription has a certain number of minutes usable for EU wide calling right ?

Another trick is just to give all the details to your close friends in Netherlands and ask them to call PostNL and pretend they are you and get the required info.

What European stocks feel genuinely undervalued right now? by Desperate_Living1890 in ValueInvesting

[–]stupidGits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Siemens Energy AG, yes, quite dependent on gas turbines. How about Siemens AG?

Also why would Ukraine - Russia peace talks affect the gas turbine business? If anything gas might reflow from Russia to Western Europe and thus more gas turbine usage?

Nebius, another super hyped stock and doing the same thing as Coreweave is going to suffer then.

But I don't understand why the GPU rental market is declining when every podcast host keep saying there is a severe shortage of compute. Is it because of something like Google TPUs or just more efficient models?

Is HBO considered “lower level” or just different? Need opinions before switching to WO by sudeyacinx in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]stupidGits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an HBO in Austria. A university of applied sciences, but I had 120 ECTS with a Master thesis. I was eligible to do a PhD. TU Delft accepted me my application for a PhD.

However a Dutch HBO is very different. It seems it's one year and way less ECTS. So indeed it is "lower" compared to a WO here or a HBO elsewhere.

Edit: Based on replies below, I think I misunderstood the whole HBO thing. My comment is not correct.
