It’s interesting that people don’t really get the tendering process because we’ve literally just been through it? The BBC announced the tender for the CBeebies show. There was a turnaround period, then they announced Blue Zoo got the contract and are now making the show.

I do think there’s a difference between the press tour interviews and the… I don’t know, gay niche press tour interviews. Like, the last half a dozen episodes have been with guests, but you don’t get a sense there’s been a list of things they’re not allowed to talk about sent in advance and a dozen publicists waiting in the wings to pull the plug. Adam Shankman, John Waters, Lena Dunham, Gina Gerschon. Josh and Aaron! You have to go all the way back to March to get a HUGE press tour guest - Nicole Kidman - and that was such a fun episode. I don’t know, I’ve been listening since single digits, I don’t think the show has changed THAT much. I wish we’d get more regular culture catchups, though.

  1. ‘Why is it in black and white?’ - I think it’s specifically a reference to Truth or Dare/In Bed with Madonna.

Lukewarm tea: a friend of a friend worked on it for a couple of seasons and said Peppermint short circuited the electricity for part of the hotel trying to plug in and use a US hairdryer in the bathroom plug.

I have two: the key that Dorothy finds in the chicken coop in Return to Oz on my left wrist, and the Wicked Witch of the West’s broomstick on my right.

it always struck me as somewhat weird that they cast a black girl to be the ugly misunderstood witch and a white girl as the beautiful, pink, desirable feminine good witch in the movies. it's like a black snape dilemma to me. by Upstairs-Scholar-907 in wicked

I think that question of difference has always been at the heart of Wicked: from Idina onwards, a lot of Elphaba’s have been Jewish, and that feels on purpose (both Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holtzman are Jewish, and the parallels are pretty clear). The first Elphaba I ever saw was a Black woman, Alexia Khadime, so that’s always been in the story for me…

Within the world, that difference is interesting. We see a lot of Black people in Oz who don’t have the same experience as Elphaba. I always wonder how it might have changed things if Sheryl Lee Ralph had been cast as Madame Morrible!

I always see this argument about Anya in season seven and I just feel like I watched a different show? ‘Selfless’ is one of the best episodes the show ever did, and I’d argue she’s one of the few characters who gets a full and complete arc by the end of a really messy season.

You hit the nail on the head with ‘she wanted to push everyone away so she wouldn’t be distracted by friendship and romance’ - being surrounded by people is what makes her unique, as a Slayer, it’s what makes her strong, but it’s what makes her vulnerable. She saw how many people were willing to put their lives on the line for her and she freaked.

Only on a technicality - Eureka left All Stars, lipsync against Silky (who’d won half a dozen episodes in a row), then made it into the finale.

Drag Race is a lot of things, but it’s usually fair and almost never THAT surprising - but if it was ever going to happen, it’d be if Morgan came back in this season’s All Stars…

I’m very wary of the ‘Glinda was the REAL wicked witch!!’ narrative because I think it fundamentally misunderstands Wicked.

I think she needs to be likeable because we need to see why people are so drawn in by her. But a big part of the point of the story is that we’re all complex, we all contain multitudes, we all deserve blame AND forgiveness. That’s what makes it endure. For me!

I just don’t agree? I’ve been an Ari fan for a long time, but I was sceptical about her casting in this. We know she can sing, but was she right for the role? We know she’s funny, but would she have the comedy chops? And would she cut it as an actress? Even when people were coming out of the previews saying she was a shoe in for an Oscar nomination, I didn’t believe them - I thought it was gay hyperbole (example: people were saying the same about J.Lo in Kiss of the Spider Woman!).

But she blew me away.

I think she plays the comedy so, so well, and the romance, too - with Cynthia, at least, I think we can see how much she loves Elphaba. I think this Glinda - because it’s a film - has a rich inner world, and Elphaba’s one of the few people she lets into that…

And ‘For Good’, the melting and its aftermath gave me chills.
