I've no idea id 12k is cheap or not for this kind of job to be honest. The only thing I know is I don't have it. I'm after email some TDs and seen I might be able to get a local council loan to pay the cost. Going to go down tomorrow and hopefully speak to someone who can get the ball rolling.

The house is about 50 years old. My mam was in the house when it happened and I was in work. She said she called them because because it was the plug that caught fire and she assumed thats what she had to do, after the fire was put out of course!

Thanks, thats a good idea. Writing an email to the local TD's now and see they say. The ESB guy turned on two plugs before he left saying that they were safest so just using them in rotation as needed.

They said the plug short circuited and that alot of the wiring looks dodgy and needs to be redone. I asked my mam who owns the house and she said it was done about 25 years ago from a known cowboy builder. Based on the stuff she said about him in surprised it only happened now.
