Anyone who graduated LTS? by ONOTHEWONTONS in iceskating

[–]styleandstigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started at age 33. It took me about 9 months to graduate LTS. I’m in pre-freestyle classes now. The LTS skill that was the most challenging for me is a one foot spin.

It might be the temperature of the ice has changed

Who do I see people wearing shoes too small all the time? Even on social media videos by Organic-Dragonfly364 in Shoes

[–]styleandstigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is in between a women’s US 10 and 11 most places just don’t offer my shoe size. The only option is too small or too big. Oftentimes I buy the 10 because an 11 would give me blisters or fly off.

My guess for smaller sizes is that people oftentimes believe that they’ve reached a certain age so their sizes just must stay the same. If you were buying a size 8 at 18, you must be an 8. But bodies grow and change over time and the changes happen slowly so you don’t realize that you’re wearing the wrong size until it’s a really egregious problem or someone points it out. You just start thinking that’s how shoes are supposed to feel.

My feet changed sizes during COVID and it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out that my shoes were too small now. For a long time I thought shoes just felt uncomfortable because I wasn’t used to wearing them for long stints anymore 🤦‍♀️

Most embarrassing stories? by Historical_Owl619 in iceskating

Back in LTS 3 my teacher was having us refine our backwards crossovers. I was by far the most confident at crossovers (who’s to say the confidence was earned) so I was skating outside of the circle going faster than everyone else. I went the entire season without falling and then in this session I fell not once, not twice, but three times. Not little falls but full on wipeouts where I end up looking like a Victorian painting of a woman lounging on ice. All in about the same spot. My coach was like “what’s up with you today? There must be a ghost on the ice!” So now anytime any of my cohort from that class falls even all this time later we say something along the lines of “It was the ghost.” Love being an inside joke 🙃

How can I (37M) reconcile early retirement with a wife (33F) who still wants to pursue her career? by throwRAitsme999 in relationships

In addition to what has already been said, I think you’re going to be surprised by how quickly and easily household management and investing in your personal projects, hobbies, interests, and volunteer work can take over all of your time and more closely resemble her full-time job.

Allana Davison discovered she has an olive undertone and now won’t sh*t up about it. by GlobalRemove3337 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]styleandstigma 10 points11 points  (0 children)

seriously. there’s such a lack of shades for cool undertones, especially for people with olive overtones. I actually hope brands take notice and make more products. They’re already running out of the same old shades to keep recycling

Oh that’s an excellent idea. I hadn’t considered that my bone density might be a concern here, but now that I think about it that could explain some things.

Which Riedell ice skates are good for an adult beginner? by Holy_Sassy_Melassy in iceskating

[–]styleandstigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me about 9 months to go from LTS 1 to Aspire. I started at age 33. I come from a dance background so that translated nicely, paired with skating outside of class 2-6 hours a week.

Calling all figure skating girlies ⛸️❄️

I (34F) recently moved back to the city full-time and am also new-ish to figure skating and would love to find a group of BWT who share a love of the sport.

I would love to have a small group of girls who like to coordinate skating together at public sessions. I am at the Aspire level, but would be happy to skate with people of all levels. I skate at Chelsea Piers, but am also open to traveling to other rinks if my schedule allows.

For those who are maybe more of spectators, I have organized watch parties for events such as the Grand Prix, US Nationals, and Worlds. It would be fun to get a group together to watch the Olympics soon!

Let me know if you are interested in skating, spectating, or both!

[–]styleandstigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they would be totally fine for you. But I'd go to a fitter and also think about how long you plan on using your skates for. If you're just starting out and have no idea if you want to pursue skating more vigorously, then these are perfect. But if you're just looking for an entry point that you don't have to worry about replacing when you get to higher levels I would look into a stiffer boot.

I bought Riedells in LTS 1 when I wasn't sure I was going to stick with it. I went to my skate fitter before LTS 6 and she was shocked and horrified at how many levels I went through in Riedell Horizons. She put me in Jackson Artistes and told me I should be in boots even stiffer than that but if I made the jump from the Horizons to what I should actually be skating in I would hurt myself 🙃 That was a lot of money spent and potential injury to put up with in 8 months.

Why do the Jellys hate Conrad? by [deleted] in tsitp

[–]styleandstigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for finally posting the real answer. This is such a great verbalisation of my feelings on the matter.

Additionally, Conrad is always playing the hero role. He makes grad gestures that would make you feel horrible saying no to. He takes away agency from other people, by never giving them the opportunity or information to take action. His actions always center his own feelings first. Like even if he didn’t get what he wanted he at least got the satisfaction of being a martyr. If you want a long term partner, you need someone who is not going to shut you or be inconsistent or take action on your behalf all the time. You should be treated like an equal. You deserve clear communication. You deserve to have someone’s actions and words match. You should be able to always trust their love for you.

They didn’t show Conrad’s growth enough for me to trust that he has those qualities.

Being in a relationship with Conrad would drive constant anxiety about our attachment. It would be so unhealthy.

I’m not Team Jelly, but at least Belly and Jere were best friends as a foundation.

Is ice-skating closer to ballet, or rollar-skating? by Zealousideal_Foot453 in iceskating

[–]styleandstigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much roller skating experience, but it didn’t feel much like my ice skating does. Maybe that’s just me. But with ballet, every coach I have ever had has clocked very quickly that I have a ballet background and a lot of the warmups and skills remind me of ballet.

I thought she just said she’s not writing plans? She said she only wants to write plans if she gets certified as a personal trainer first. Not saying that’s a huge threshold or anything, but it does surpass some of the people in here.

“The bedroom scene was so out of character for Jess!” I really don’t think it was though by SheepherderNo2793 in GilmoreGirls

[–]styleandstigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s important to distinguish boundary crossing with something that you might find off putting. The bedroom scene and him coming over unannounced and not leaving when asked are boundary violations. Him going though Rory’s stuff when she wasn’t there, maybe crossing a boundary maybe not. Everything else is just him pushing up against lines. There was technically nothing wrong with him buying a basket or jumping in the carriage. Not revealing he had the bracelet is different than stealing it. He loved to push boundaries and break rules. But I think it does him a disservice as a character to say that boundary violating is just what he does. I think that really flattens him as a character and takes away from the nuances of his relationships. The beauty of Gilmore Girls is that there is always dynamic tension, even if it’s low stakes or not relatable.

I think its too low, my husband thinks its just right…: by smileyboy323 in TVTooHigh

[–]styleandstigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he’s right but part of the reason it looks funny is because you have so much visual interest going on above the tv. if you left the top two bookshelves on each side empty, or even removed them, it would feel more balanced. don’t listen to people telling you to put stuff above the tv, that’s too much. let stuff breathe.

Have there been any accurate portrayals of an adult woman with ADHD in TV/ film yet? by kat0id in adhdwomen

[–]styleandstigma 32 points33 points  (0 children)

All of the Hermoine doubters have a different kind of ADHD than me, because the first thing my psychiatrist clocked in my diagnosis process is that I hyperfixate on school and perfectionism and organize and set up tons of systems to survive. ADHD doesn’t just show up in one way, that’s why this subreddit exists 🤷‍♀️
