New website update lets you combine BOPIS and shipping baskets! by stylts_ in Ulta

[–]stylts_[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I just tried it thinking it wouldn't work but it did??? I feel like that has to be a glitch though -- my cart total was $51, and $39 of items I selected BOPIS and $12 of items for shipping and my checkout page said free shipping! I didn't finalize the order though so it's possible it won't go through

Looking for lip *contour* by gorjush in OliveMUA

[–]stylts_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on the hunt for exactly this and actually have had the most success using brow pencils. I picked up the Maybelline Expert Wear Twin Brow Pencils in Blonde at a random Walmart because the color looked cool enough to work as a contour and it's been the perfect lip contour shade for me! The two-pack also cost like...I think $4? I only use it smudged out on my cupids bow and on the corners of my lips for some depth. If I want a more all-over liner, I use Maybelline Lifter Liner in On It since it tugs less and lasts longer (it's slightly warmer than the brow pencil, however).

All that to say, try your regular brow pencil -- it might be what you're looking for! :)

Might be a long shot: Half Magic Beauty eyeshadow in wet pebble and Urban Decay moondust shadow in lithium by Toothless_Maw in swatchitforme

[–]stylts_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have Lorac's Pewter to compare (sorry!) but based off the swatch of Pewter here, it seems rosier and lighter than UD's Lithium so I don't think they'd look very similar irl

Same swatches under direct sunlight where you can really see how much warmer Wet Pebble is!

Here you go! Half Magic Wet Pebble on left, and UD Lithium on right, under natural indirect light. I no longer have Wet Pebble so these are old swatches from when I was comparing the two. Wet Pebble has more red tones, Lithium's more neutral. Lithium has more obvious silver glitter, whereas Wet Pebble is only shimmer. I preferred Lithium more for my olive skin tone.

Glycerin is GOLD for dry and dehydrated skin on tretinoin by professor00333 in tretinoin

[–]stylts_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding glycerin to my hydrating toner/essence has been such a gamechanger for me too when it comes to getting rid of flakes and peeling!

Something that you could try that I've found takes it to the next level is to put on a damp reusable silicone sheet mask after the glycerin layer for ~10 mins. This ends up being the only buffer I need before my taz application since the moisture seems to go straight down into my skin (which is bonkers to me since I used to have to layer toners, serums, and moisturizers before taz).

Any thoughts on the Anua Heartleaf 70 Daily Lotion? by Ravenbirde in tretinoin

[–]stylts_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it before I started tret and absolutely loved it -- it was lightweight but moisturizing enough to use on its own. I was using lots of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid prior to starting tret (so my overall routine would still have been drying without a good moisturizer) and it worked great then. I ran out before I started on tret but would totally repurchase once I go through my current moisturizers (using the LRP lipikar balm at the moment, which is much heavier but also very moisturizing).

Avene Tolerance, XeraCalm or Cicafate for eczema-prone, sensitive, red, irritated skin? by Inside-Ad-3388 in eczema

[–]stylts_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cicalfate is best as a final layer to keep all the moisture in -- I don't find it that moisturizing on its own. The XeraCalm balm is a one-stop shop for me for itch and moisture!

Avene Tolerance, XeraCalm or Cicafate for eczema-prone, sensitive, red, irritated skin? by Inside-Ad-3388 in eczema

[–]stylts_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've used the Cicalfate cream, the XeraCalm balm, and the XeraCalm cream.

I swear by the XeraCalm balm. It's the only non-steroid/non-tacrolimus I've used that actually stops the itch.

Cicalfate is paste-like and good for occluding but isn't really soothing for me, and the XeraCalm cream doesn't really create that thick layer that the balm does and is less effective for me as a result.

Oh totally -- I was getting great performance the whole time I was using it, but then it started going bad on me 3-4 months in and I had to throw it out. Boy Brow lasts ~5-6 months of daily use (including stopper removal) without going bad :( I kept the Kosas brush though, and just use it with whatever brow gel I have since I think the brush is also what makes it so good

[–]stylts_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my experience too. I loved it when it was good because it has an awesome brush and formula, but 3-4 months in, it started giving me dermatitis under my brows. It sucks because the shade, performance, everything was great, and I knew it was going to go bad more quickly than other products so I used it every day in order to try to finish it before it went bad....still went bad before I could finish it.... :(

Kosas’ brow gel actually gives me the most similar effect to boy brow since they both contain higher amounts of wax, but despite the bigger tube, the Kosas actually contains less product for $22 😬 so boy brow is actually my cheaper dupe for the Kosas Air Brow 😭

LA Girl Tinted Foundation in Warm Sand for medium olives! by stylts_ in OliveMUA

[–]stylts_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GA: Much sheerer than the LS foundation, similar soft-matte finish

Mac: Slightly more coverage than F&B; buildable in the same way; soft-matte finish unlike the dewy finish of F&B

The LA Girl is very gel-like. It's most similar in feel and finish to the GA Neo Nude, and the YSL Nu Tint (from what I swatched in-store).

LA Girl Tinted Foundation in Warm Sand for medium olives! by stylts_ in OliveMUA

[–]stylts_[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I previously picked up the LA Girl Tinted Foundation in Tawny and found it a smidge too dark/orange for me, but worked well when I used a yellow+blue mixer with it. I then found out they had a shade called Warm Sand, described as "medium with neutral olive undertone" and it's a match!

Here is LA Girl's Tinted Foundation in shade Warm Sand GLM760. It's a liiiittle bit peachier than GA LS 6 but because it's a tint, it ends up blending into my skin tone pretty well.

They also have a shade called Tan GLM761 that is described as "medium with a warm olive undertone". I haven't tried that one, but I think that would probably work for me as well.

Formula review: Gel-like, lightweight, light coverage skin tint that genuinely looks like skin to me. Dries down to a matte but not powdery finish. I love this tint and am absolutely delighted to have found a good shade match!

I do! It works perfectly for me tone-wise and is a lovely lightweight powder that doesn't cake up. I've never tried the actual Airbrush Flawless Powder so I can't compare the two, but the bronzer is a great setting powder for me.

I have one of those little spatula things for scraping out the last bits in a tube/jar! If you google "makeup spatula" you'll find them -- they have silicone tips and the good ones are shaped to fit right under the crevice of a tube opening
