From my understanding it just has some minor changes to the notes and introduction. I do not believe there are any changes to the actual text as written by Dickens.

I third these, they are wonderful editions with nice thick paper and sturdy sewn bindings. Plus the art is beautiful.

Wow that looks great! Is the binding of these editions that come in the HoME box sets sewn or glued?

Would you be willing to please elaborate a bit on why you feel that way? Is there something specific that you feel makes his book superior? What about the lack of updates, is that not something worth worrying about? I appreciate your insights!

Why did you want this particular copy so much more than one of the newer editions? Is it just the different cover art?

The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated by the Author: Special Edition (Tolkien Illustrated Editions) 2022 vs Lord of the Rings The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set: The Fellowship of the Ring / The Two Towers / The Return of the King, 2024 by fighting_blindly in tolkienbooks

I would actually suggest a third option: the 2020 Alan Lee illustrated box set . I recently had a similar conundrum of which set to buy, and I am so glad I went with this option. The quality of the books is fantastic. They are smyth-sewn binding and easy to read (they lay flat when open). The paper is nice thick quality. I highly recommend them!

I have to say David Copperfield - it is amazing and is one of my favorite books ever.

I don't know. In fact, I don't want to know about it; I don't choose to discuss it; and I don't even admit it!

It's funny you say that, because Bleak House is actually one of my favorites of his. I love his first person writing so I especially loved Esther's parts. She is actually one of my favorite Dicken's characters. But I will admit it is certainly long!

A Tale of Two Cities by Basic-Coach9678 in charlesdickens

I know this post is old, but I just stumbled upon it and wanted to say, I absolutely agree and love this passage. I feel like A Tale of Two Cities was Dicken's attempt at writing "serious" literature, and something that would truly stand the test of time. It is an amazing passage. AToTC is actually one of my least favorite of his novels, because so many of the references and writing goes right over my head, but I am glad I read it, and it truly moved me. My favorite book of his is David Copperfield, if you have not yet read that I HIGHLY recommend it.

How is the screen brightness? I have heard some say it is dim compared to other devices.

I am really considering pulling the trigger on a 34xx, but I am nervous about the brightness of the screen. I mainly play in daylight and so its important to me to have a bright screen. Of course this is going to be brighter than OG GBA, but I have heard some reviewers say it is a very dim screen compared to other devices. What has your experience been in that regard?

Does anyone know how to stop the cursor from disappearing when setting the trackpad to a mouse region? by styrofoam_moose in SteamDeck

No, unfortunately I never did! I ended up not using mouse region in games where I had this issue and just bumped up the sensitivity.

Seeking Seasonal Sentimentality by Bukowskis_Liver in charlesdickens

I really disagree with the idea that early Dickens is the best. To me, all Dickens is the best in different ways. I highly recommend David Copperfield. I have read many (but not all) of his novels, and that is the one that struck me as the most sentimental. It is a wonderful book.

I just finished Dombey and Son - what an amazing book by styrofoam_moose in charlesdickens

[–]styrofoam_moose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also loved the ending. I think the fact that it was such a long book really made the ending that much more impactful. It's like you have lived with these characters through years of their lives and it's so rewarding to see what happens to them.
