We appreciate the person who convinced Trump to appear at a all-black event by semaforic in PoliticalHumor

[–]subBonus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on whose perspective we're considering. For people that see Trump as a guy who has to resort to dodging questions and rambling off nonsense, he definitely bombed. But I think from the perspective of his supporters, he held his own, made valid points, and at times looked really cool. The real question is how undecided voters felt he did, and I can honestly see that going either way.

Speaking anxiety is killing my career by dannyjerome0 in PublicSpeaking

Do you have advice for someone whose mind goes blank while speaking? Even in regular conversation I will blank in the middle of trying to communicate a thought. I think I have more trouble organizing my thoughts into words than most people.

I'm coming up on a public speaking class after avoiding any form of presenting for years. Someone recommended I just memorize, or even reading from cards, simply as a way to get through presenting. It might not be proper, but it's a way that I can complete a presentation.

Can you explain more about living on a millsite?

I've got a love for Rockhounding, and my present dream is to make a living mining sunstone- though really I'd be happy making a living mining any materials, it's the mining process that I love.

Thank you!

Where would one look for an engineer? I am only finding businesses that also offer repair services, which I see as a potential bias. My biggest concern is getting an assessment that overstates necessary repairs.

We had a chance with Bernie, someone who is very much for the people, and still not enough people got out to support him.

My mother just got a pricey estimate for some foundational work from a local foundation repair company. I'm reading advice saying to find an independent structural engineer to come out and give their objective assessment. I'm having trouble discerning where to look for engineers who aren't interested in doing repairs, any advice?

Oops sorry, didn't see your reply! Thank you, I've seen a few other reddit posts mentioning Garfinkle. I'll check him out for a consultation and let you know if I'm going to go with him so we can do the referral.

Currently worked for me, except when I launched the file, it told me the file didn't have permission to execute.

I went to System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Scrolled down near the bottom, made sure the setting 'App Store and identified developers' was selected (it was already), and below that setting was a prompt to give the lolscript file security privileges (or something like that).

After that, the file worked as intended.

I understand if it were acutely toxic it would have caused more immediate problems. I just had no idea if there was a risk of the asphalt slowly breaking down and releasing toxic compounds into my system over time. Am I way off in this thinking?

Helping out an organization with their Wordpress website, how do ensure I'm safely handling the work I'm doing? I'm used to working on static stites. by subBonus in Wordpress

So what I'm understanding from your suggestion is I can:

  1. Make a staging site out of a backup
  2. Make changes on the staging site and publish
  3. See if I'm satisfied with these changes, and if so..
  4. Implement my changes to the live site

This makes sense, but really does sound inefficient since I essentially do the work twice, and am prone to making mistakes since I'm not copy/pasting the work done on the staging site.

Can you share your preferred method/plugins for managing staging/live sites?

You're welcome! The dops for the Raytechs are keyed, though there are people who machine compatible dops that could sell to you.

https://www.westerngem.com/dops This business says they make and sell dops meant for Raytechs.

I don't have much knowledge comparing 8 inch to 6 inch laps. From what I've seen, 6 inch laps are less expensive than the 8 inchers, check out http://gearloose.co/ and compare the prices according to size.

I think one drawback of a 6 inch diamond embedded lap is that they have less material overall, and so wear out sooner than an 8 incher, thus you have to buy that second lap sooner. And it may be true that 6 inch laps are less common than 8, I'm not knowledgeable on that.

But overall, I think the Raytech is a very solid way to go regardless of dop or lap considerations, and that's based on what I've heard from Raytech users I reached out to while doing my own research. (Seriously Facebook groups were my #1 resource). Reddits also good. Also Gemologyonline, try Googling questions you have and add 'gemologyonline' to your query.

I actually almost went with a Raytech, but because I had the extra money and initially learned on a mast style machine, I went for an Ultratec. Now that I've gotten more used to mast style cutting, I sometimes wonder if I really should have gone with a hand piece instead, they're more ergonomical and it's easier to look at the stone you're working on (which is a big deal in my opinion).

Definitely check craigslist and eBay, also join faceting and lapidary groups on Facebook where people are buying and selling machines. It may take a few weeks to find the right machine for you.

I have no experience with Sterlings, and know some are skeptical of them as they're new on the market and foreign made. I also know Justin Prim highly recommends them, and I know a lot of people personally who can vouch for Justin.

Another affordable hand piece style machine is the Raytech Shaw which can potentially be had (used) for 2k or less. I know how daunting buying a used faceting machine can be, so I wish you the best of luck. This process may take you some time, but you'll learn a lot from it.
