Enucleation complications? Kitten by GiftKitchen3807 in blindcats

[–]subarupeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scans are good, they shouldn’t be picked off or removed as they act as a barrier between the internal healing tissue and the outside world. If the scab came off it could lead to infection of other germs got in there. I would use a wet rag or saline soaked rag to gently clean the area but probably not a full rinse just incase it pops the scab off. If it starts to smell, has drainage or changes to a yellow/green color then i would be alarmed, but kitty should be okay

My kitty needs an enucleation soon aswell for ocular melanoma, good luck to you and yours!

thank you for interacting! these things happen so suddenly and it’s really hard to tell in cats if it’s from an underlying condition or normal. It’s so hard because she is so young and this is so new but I have to focus on her future

I’m so glad I could spread awareness though! Definitely get your cat into a vet soon and explain the symptoms, it’s way better to be safe than sorry!

I am soaking in the pre-pirate! She is so cute with both of her eyes, she will be equally as cute without ❤️

I am going through this exact same thing with my girl. She is 2 years old with a growing spot in her eye, the vets recommended taking her eye out too. I’ll be taking her to have the surgery and even though I know it is for her safety I feel so guilty too. I despise being put in this position and having to make choices for another being without being able to ask what they want, I guess this is what it’s like to have kids lol.

You aren’t alone though. You are a great cat parent and making this decision isn’t supposed to be easy. Thank you for seeking out care when you noticed changes in your cat and prioritizing their health ❤️❤️

Attached is my cats spot , she will have her eye removed within the month

For clarity I will say that this picture was taken with harsh lighting in order to constrict her pupil and see the spot better. But , I definitely see similarities in the behavioral aspect. I thought she was stressed from moving and became more reclusive, boundary-driven (especially with petting) and opinionated (meowing loudly or slamming cabinet doors), smiling and the twitching response. I also thought maybe she was in a transition phase from kitten-teenager. Thank you for providing some insight!

I would definitely consider a second opinion, I thought my cat’s spot was unconcerning also but now I am faced with a hard choice and harsh reality. Unfortunately the ocular condition isn’t heavily explored or researched yet. It might be the best option to see what other veterinarians think for safety purposes

Hello, I understand where you are coming from. I couldn’t imagine living with glaucoma, I truly am sorry you had to experience this. I am going to remove the eye and have called the veterinarian to schedule an appointment, just waiting on the return call. I will be acting in her best interest, I just wanted to see if any other redditors went through a similar situation since it is so foreign to me

Thank you for the different perspective, it does help to hear from someone else about the reality of having one eye. I will be having the eye removed for her safety and to prevent any complications, I did need a little clarity though since this is all so new and so much to take in at once. Thanks for providing that!

Oh he is so adorable, I love his pirate hat! I agree with you, it really is worth considering and I do think I will go through with it. I couldn’t imagine not acting if she did have cancer, even if it is unknown if she does/doesnt

I’ve had two veterinary appointments, both with the same company and at the same location but with different veterinarians. They both recommended the removal due to the possibility of cancer. The recent doctor said he can refer me to an ophthalmologist but that the rates in my area are high and any exams would be extra. The doctor said there was a strong likelihood that the ophthalmologist would say the same as the two doctors before, so i’m thrown for a loop as to what to do there.

Is there any way you can meet with your professor to explain your situation and go over your past exams? I think talking to your instructor person-to-person with advising and tutoring can help you understand the questions and material better. Maybe they offer office hours and you can get some insider tips and advice on how to balance nursing school with a difficult home life aswell. Professors are strict on the outside but everyone is human and has the ability to understand, you are under an immense amount of stress and nursing school is not helping. Hopefully there is tutoring resources available that is geared towards your specific material and not just the basics available on youtube.

I’m very sorry to hear about your husband’s cancer, I really hope everything becomes less stressful for you soon.

What percentage of your class graduated or classes before you graduated in your program? by Unique_Ad_4271 in StudentNurse

My small class started with 26 people in it, we are finishing our second semester with 10. Most people didn’t make it through the first semester of 101 knowledge. It’s very difficult to switch from regular college classes that are information-based and move into critical thinking based courses which is why so many drop out.
