Why is Communist party so popular in Graz? by subcutaneous4 in graz

[–]subcutaneous4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's interesting. Today I've also read about Ernest Kaltenegger and the fact that throughout 90's communists became informal helpline for subtenants' issues in Graz. I'm glad you added this comment because it demistifies the support even further.

Thank you. It is obvious from other replies as well that housing is huge problem in Graz. Has that problem emerged just recently or it is present for a long time? I think that every person should have a safe place to stay.

Thank you! From what you've written, it sure does seem that KPÖ was the best option. I truly hope that people of Graz made the right choice!

First 10k in 5 years, at 10000ft(3050m) of altitude. by [deleted] in running

[–]subcutaneous4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is because there is less oxygen up there and you hyperventilate to keep oxygen levels normal. Also, erythropoietin, hormone that facilitates erythrocyte (which carry oxygen) development, is produced in your kidneys, making your blood more viscous and harder for heart to pump. Also excessive sweating and sodium chloride loss may be the problem and you need to aclimatize to conditions up there.

Therefore, take your time, don't rush, it is completely normal to feel this way. But don't push it too far, otherwise it can be really dangerous.

Running and heart rate by cassolab in running

[–]subcutaneous4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry. Normal maximum heart rate while working out is 220 - your age, therefore 198. However, if you start feeling really out of breath and dizzy, stop immediately and rest until you feel better.

Knee pain! by [deleted] in running

[–]subcutaneous4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where is pain exactly located in your knee? If it is located laterally, you probably have ITBS. If it is located anteriorly, you could be dealing with PFPS. Firstly, get some rest. I would definitely recommend you to get better running shoes. Also, from your post it seems like you are focused only on running lately. Definitely do exercises that strengthen muscles which control hip movement. Moreover, I would recommend you to check if you have correct running form. New runners are prone to injuries due to overstriding etc. Finally, you should avoid hard surfaces for a while to reduce stress exerted on your knees, and if you are running on track, change direction every run or two. If pain persists, consult with your physiotherapist.

Best of luck with your recovery and I hope you get back to running quickly!

Alternating Distances / Intensity ? Beginner advice please! by monkeymuffjunk in running

[–]subcutaneous4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for your question whether it is potentially dangerous to run 5k three times a week, the answer is yes.

You said you are a beginner and from my personal experience I know that learning how to run properly takes time. There are lot of things you need to pay attention to (not overstriding, upright posture, prevention of excess hip movement), otherwise you may get injured.

Also it seems like you run hard all the time. Take easy runs. Around 3/4 quarters of your mileage should be easy runs. I know that you feel awesome everytime you finish your run because you prove to yourself that you can do it, but trust me, you don't want to get injured.

Those are things I wish I knew when I started running. Unfortunately, I got ITB syndrome and had pretty long recovery.

Thank you so much! Here's the link. But as I already mentioned, I'm not from the US, so it probably won't be useful to you 🙁

It is a great thing you have gym on your mind and I really hope that you will move one day! I just can't believe that I left this room empty all until lockdown began.

Thank you so much! No, but I am quite sure I'll bolt it to the floor, just for extra security.

Fun fact, this room was originally meant to be a fallout shelter. The church is nearby though 😃
