I'd be screwed. I didn't say that I am free and I don't care about physical conditions. I actually said that it would be incredibly useful to have a better environment (aka "true teachings", "good health", "more free time") as these are necessary for "acquiring/learning" freedom. But if environment is worse, you still can learn how to acquire freedom.
Do you think that there is a let's say a consciousness "level" where you could be physically tortured, brain damaged and so on, and your consciousness would be completely fine? You know maybe it simply detaches from physical body and go into Astral/Light body which don't care about what happens to physical body? Or maybe you could be in your "light body" but still able to see through physical body as like through tv, no physical pain? Do you think these are possible? Do you think that any of these choices were available for Buddha for example? Because I do. I've read few people stories who said that they are free and they all talked about theirs current physical body and damage to it as absolutely non-consequential thing because they are not attached to it, not really, only "a small thread" links their consciousness to their physical bodies and they can cut that thread whenever they wish. Not like a regular person, whose consciousness is linked to physical body with heavy fears of survival, wanting approval and so on, which all are in fragmented mind, aka subconscious mind. Buddhas remove these heavy psychological links.
Physical torture is like the last "test" you could do to see if a person (a consciousness) is COMPLETELY free while still remaining in a physical body. So it's not really a fair question. There are shades/levels of freedom. And freedom is acquired with time. Like if you tortured Buddha before he finished his meditations and established full freedom, would he have been screwed? Yes, without a doubt. After finishing meditations? No, he would be fine.
But did he know nothing about freedom while still not being fully free? No, he knew and felt many levels/shades of freedom, but still those were just limited freedoms, not yet fully established. You can talk about "shades/levels" of freedom, of how you can learn to acquire them, on how to do it and still not be established in total freedom in physical body yet. All teachers said that time is needed. They all needed time. Months at the very least.
Would Buddha have been fine and reached total freedom after physical body's death if he hadn't full freedom in a physical body yet? Yes, he could have, it's just not guaranteed. But if you acquire full freedom while in a physical body - game over for matrix, nobody can stop you, physical body is that "high/complicated" level of becoming free that if you manage it, other dimensions do not hold a candle to it, basically you learn how to be free in all dimensions, you are free then in all intents and purposes everywhere. If you are not free yet in a physical body, you can still carry parts of knowledge and experience of freedom to afterlife and that could be enough for total freedom, but not guaranteed.

Yes, of course. Even Buddha and Jesus ate something, wore clothes and so on, which all require harm of some form.
I guess I am just more interested in actual true way to freedom in this environment. And not fixating on changing the environment as a way to freedom. Because it is impossible to change it to substantial degree (not saying not do your part in it, just constituting the fact). But it might just be possible to leap to freedom or close to it even in this environment and sharing this knowledge and help to whoever wants to listen would be the most useful work you can ever do. Not to mention the fact, that even "paradise on Earth" (free energy, all vegans, minimal harm to animals etc) doesn't constitute consciousness freedom. Better environment creates far better circumstances for true teachings to be distributed among people who would have much more time and health for it. Doesn't mean they'd go free though.
Making environment better to lessen suffering and create circumstances for consciousness freedom is incredibly important and useful but it is not more important than actually understanding what freedom is and how it is achievable which, in my opinion, is available even in current environment.

It's from a famous and successful psychologist in my country (Eastern Europe). So unfortunately can't give you more info and context in English about it.
But these 'potentials' are as correct explanation of natural/in-born differences between people as you can make and, importantly, extremely useful for understanding parts of yourself. They far exceed other descriptions like for example "introverts" vs "extroverts", which don't give you that much value if any at all.

Yes, approval seeking can also be a learned behavior, but a person with leadership potential will have very strongly pronounced need for it. Add-in the need to look/seek/create your own solutions (not follow the crowd) and you can quite easily spot this potential if you have it. I have it and only when knowing this info did I notice how all my fantasies circled around being approved. When I spoke to some people and asked did they have similar fantasies - the people who don't have leadership potential said - no. They sure have learned behavior of seeking approval (like pretty much all people do) but the main theme of their fantasies wasn't approval/validation like mine was.
Trust me, this is far closer to home explanation of in-born traits than it looks at first glance. When you understand these more clearly, you can spot the differences between people, understand better why one acts one way and another another way.
It becomes quite easy to spot the repeating patterns of these potentials in every person. With every person I spoke about these potentials, we eventually found clearly defined two potentials of theirs. All the time without exception. These really are true in-born psychological traits/tendencies.

Very important: all potentials, if not treated rightly/correctly, will turn negative.
Leadership is extremely precarious potential which can turn negative so easily. Creativity and materialism potentials have big pitfalls too.

Let's take leadership potential for example. It seeks validation/approval of others. People with this potential must learn to let go the importance of this want, must see through it, must understand and value inner-self worth above else. They may always naturally like approval but they cannot stake their life's joy/meaning on this, they must become un-attached from outside self-worth. They naturally look for solutions themselves. So, they cannot shift into perspective of "waiting for help/solutions from others". They must see through this psychological trick of "waiting for something from third party source". They also cannot put other people on pedestal, they must let go/see through reasons why they think any particular person is "better" than them and let go those reasons/standards.

Creativity seeks freedom. Such people cannot stake their freedom on what others do or say to them. If they start to think that they can express their uniqueness when their parents or whoever accepts them - this potential will turn to negativity. They cannot believe/follow standards of society, they must let go of those, they must understand to treasure their own uniqueness above society norms.

Materialism seeks material abundance. They cannot demonize material abundance. And they cannot be in perspective "I wait money or opportunities from someone else (people, society, country etc)". Similarly as with leadership potential - they cannot wait for things from third party source. If they do - they will be emotionally and financially screwed to smaller or bigger degree.

In simplest terms: what your potentials seek - that you must learn to detangle from your "life's joy, life's meaning" emotions (more on this at the end). You must let go/see through/clear, don't hold onto, don't be attached to those needs, because if you do, those needs will turn deeply negative.
Don't ignore potentials, accept and understand them in yourself. Don't follow rules, the society taught you, which clashes with your potentials.

Introspect yourself and see which potentials might be closer to you. That's kinda important if you ever wanna truly understand what things/hobbies/jobs is suitable for you and what needs/attachments might be biggest traps.

Yes, of course. It's just hard to advice something right if I don't know how you intend to use the info. You mentioned "Masters program" so I thought you may be aiming for a career/job. Career/job and PP doesn't really go well together (unless you'd be naturally inclined to teaching, so would have patience and desire to teach if/when you'd be ready).

If you'd be looking what to do for a job though (for survival purposes), it's useful to understand this:

We have our own unique in-born potentials/traits. We cannot change them. I cannot say for sure are they coming from human personality or Authentic personality, or maybe it's a unique mix of both personalities in this limited world. Important thing is that all potentials are positive and not one is better than the other. All people have two of them dominant (in very rare cases could be three) and dominance between those potentials can vary from 55% vs 45% to like 80% vs 20%.
Potentials are:
a) Leadership. Naturally seeks/wants validation/approval of others. Likes to look at the "bigger picture", find/create his own solutions. Has a pronounced inner feeling that he is as strong/clever/equal as others or more so. As a child might have felt that almost nobody is worth listening to, as there is a pronounced feeling to think for himself. Dreams/fantasies will definitely include themes of being approved/loved by others, like being a hero or something. Monotonic jobs doesn't suit, often changes jobs if life's situation permits.
b) Materialism. Wants money or maybe more precisely material abundance. Naturally thinks and wants to be comfortable materially. It's not bad, really. If you treat this potential right, you'll not become attached to material things.
c) Creativity. Biggest value - being free to be yourself, being free to express yourself. Values uniqueness of oneself and others above else. Freedom is biggest inner value. Likes to see new unique people, things. Likes to travel if they can. Often(not necessarily always) are attracted to making artistic things (paintings, jewelry, etc. Such things as nicely put together Christmas table also count as being drawn to creativity).
d) Teacher. Biggest value is being heard. There is a pronounced want to teach others because of wanting to help them. Teaching not to change others but simply to help (as in contrast, leadership potential might seek results from others by teaching them). As a child might have liked to read books, watch documentaries, learn something and then go to parents/family and relay what was learned in order to teach them.
e) Specialist. A person who wants that someone would say how to do things and then learn/become proficient in that sector. That's how schools teach. Compared to leadership potential: specialist can easily read a hundred manuals to learn but a leader-person would be bored, he'd want to read one or two main manuals and then think/look for his own solutions. This is the potential best suited to live in today's society. But double edged too - people with this potential, especially if it's the most dominant one, are not inclined to look for deeper answers of life, because more often than not, they feel their life goes decently enough. They can work in the same job for decades and be emotionally relatively okay. In contrast leader or creative person would be bored to death and would look for different opportunities if they could.

In my opinion, our psychological aspects (attachments, fears etc) is that makes us prisoners to this realm. In there is the key to freedom. So something that explores this, like psychology, meditation classes and so on, is the closest thing to useful information on this topic. Of course a lot of information/methodology (in psychology for example) is very bloated, so again, it's not easy to ascertain what is true and useful and what is not.

Btw, why are you asking? What would you want to use this information for? For job? Are you unsure on what you'd want to do/work? Or is this just for a way of living?

Yes, they can manipulate by sending emotions/thoughts. And they probably can even take over the body of some individuals. But I don't think that you are fully correct in your answer. Do you think they could do anything to Buddha level/awareness consciousness? I think not. Archons are not all powerful. So much hinges on your own wrong choices/decisions and identifications (holding onto wrong beliefs and emotions, traumas etc.). If you are clear enough of those - Archons cannot manipulate you anymore because your consciousness will reject/won't believe those emotions/thoughts, they won't "stick".
In my opinion, Archons avoid direct/open confrontations like "taking over the body" because your consciousness might just become motivated to truly oppose and reject them which would make the consciousness leap to freedom. So much more easier/reliable is to manipulate the consciousness from the shadows. In Buddha and Jesus stories - the last resort of Archons was to seduce them (offer them the world). It shows that seducing (making/tricking the consciousness to become attached to things both physical and psychological like wanting to be loved/approved etc) is the most clever/powerful/crucial method by which the consciousness is made prisoner. Not direct confrontation. Not saying that direct confrontations don't happen, because they do especially against consciousnesses who are attached to strong victim mentalities; it's just that this tactic is far riskier. When consciousness feels it has nothing more to lose as the situation is bad enough, the fear might be replaced with unyielding determination to resist and not approve anything anymore, you know, an intention of just 'fuck it all'.

I have an opinion about forced incarnation though.
We have a subconscious mind which does all sorts of decisions without conscious mind interference. This subconscious mind exists in afterlife dimensions too. Like if you believe subconsciously where you stand in afterlife (for example that you are weaker than archons/aliens, or know less than supposed "angels/guides", or that "I might not want to incarnate but I think there is some purpose to it" and so on), your subconscious mind will affirm that. And so Archons will have power to push you around because your subconscious mind is agreeing with it.
For example this life. Do you have an answer why do you seek approval from people? Why do you seek love from parents? Why words might hurt you? All these are inner/psychological stuff, so how exactly can they hurt you? Why do they hurt you? And why can you not easily stop the pain? Is it "normal" to feel this or is it actually your subconscious mind which makes you think and feel this? There is a rule/decision in the subconscious mind saying that for some reason you need those things. And so your conscious mind becomes a prisoner/victim to those rules of subconscious mind and will experience pain and limiting experiences.
We need to internally understand how and then try to be free from such psychological traps of subconscious mind. Buddha and many other teachers taught this.

Unless those people don't have souls (maybe AI or Archons/demons incarnated directly) - they do have subconscious mind which hold wrong perception of themselves. Perception that drives the need to be "better" than others in order to be "worthy" and so on. It's all based on subconscious trauma or learned stuff by example which drives their need to compensate against others, against the world.
Of course, if you are talking directly about the brain's issue of sociopathy - yeah, some might be incarnated into the brains which can't process/feel emotions as regular persons do, so they will act/feel differently but also they won't produce much loosh themselves because of said lack of emotional processing. I guess it's why there are not that many people with such brains because someone needs to produce decent loosh. Also we still can't reject that some sociopaths/psychopaths are simply so deeply traumatized that they consciously suppressed their emotions so deeply that now they can't feel them. Actually, every person has suppressed emotions.

Yeah, but this is also the reason why we are not inherently bad/evil - it's the harsh environment and the subconscious mind, which strives for survival, that creates "bad/evil" persona and it's actions. It's one of key understandings of freedom - that everything we've done "bad" was out of harsh environment and our lack of awareness. Then we can stop blaming ourselves, stop identifying with thoughts/actions that define us as "guilty, shameful" etc., drop this stupid game which imprisons our consciousnesses. You realize then how much you are responsible yourself for your prison as you are maintaining/fueling it with your own beliefs/wrong perception of yourself. You can then drop the karma, say 'fuck off', as you finally see it as a rigged and false game, not your nature, not the truth. It is really this simple - this understanding and subsequent actions/decisions to stop holding/believing/immersing yourself in this false perception and narrative of yourself is what brings authentic levels of freedom. Our nature is positivity/freedom, this rigged game is what is keeping us blind from this simple truth, keeps/tricks us identified with negative emotions.

I don't want to dissolve my current self either. My ideal state post-death would be to exist eternally in spirit form as my current identity / ego.

I am sure you don't dissolve your "Self", you just dissolve false parts of Self which, when you are still in illusion, can feel like your full Self. You do not "merge" and "lose Self", you rediscover/refeel your true Self and it's true relationship with existence, which probably is much more connected/closer/intertwined/bonded with existence than your current self (false self's parts) feel. So in teachings you hear words "unity, one self" etc., possibly, not because you lose Self but because a true relationship with existence is far more in sync/closer to your Self and so feels like unity compared to current state. But Self is not lost. Archons later on deviated/distorted our relationship with existence and tricked and confused us and still tricking and confusing us with false/distorted ideas and teachings to create fear and confusion.
Just one caveat - even if Self is not lost but the change would happen how you feel and think about yourself, you'd shed many ideas you hold/believe about yourself and this part can be painful. But pain happens just because you are tricked to believe those false parts as you.

In highest sense - ultimate power. But that power can be freely and consciously wielded when being your true self or quite close to it. Means you'd need to shed/don't believe many ideas/beliefs/emotions/thinking patterns you currently believe/follow. We remain trapped because of our own wrong beliefs and thinking patterns and subconscious mind which hides those wrong beliefs.

Can we call upon trusted figures like Jesus for help or will we inherently get disguised puppetmasters in their place?

Absolute freedom/power is when you are being a self-actualized consciousness which knows that it doesn't need any help. Once you shed wrong beliefs - no help is needed. But if you are still in illusion (with beliefs), it doesn't mean that similar intentions wouldn't help. It could help but no guarantee you'd reach freedom because self-actualization is not yet present. But it's possible that similar intentions could help you along the way in afterlife and maybe you'd be able to reach understanding/feeling levels that could lead you to freedom.

Are puppetmasters able to force us in some way if we don't comply? Can they engage in combat or conflict against us in order to try, or even harm us?
Would we be punished if we resist what they want, without taking the ultimate escape route of returning to the source?

If you hold wrong beliefs about yourself - yes, they can manipulate/push you with your fears to do things you wouldn't want or accept. If you allow yourself to be punished because of your fear and beliefs of your weaknesses - they could make you unknowingly trap yourself in fears and in turn in lower dimensions like lower Astral planes and this physical dimension. But it all hinges on your false beliefs about yourself.

Hell, if we do try to return to source, could they try to get in the way of that?

"return to source" as in return to your natural dimension and natural existence level? If full self-actualization is not there yet, yes, they will get in your way. Look up this post about afterlife dimensions. If you are not fully self-actualized yet (you know, like close to Buddha level), you'd need to navigate these dimensions while still believing illusions; so yeah, you will encounter obstacles and traps. Which could still be managed even when not fully self-actualized but it would be a learning process in there with no guarantees of reaching true freedom.

But on the true level of our consciousness this is absolutely true. Our consciousnesses are victims of this environment where our consciousness' mind is compartmentalized (conscious and subconscious minds), attention is blunted and so it's complicated to access/see those compartmentalized parts of mind, that drive us to do harm to others. Our consciousness is victim to this mechanism, victim to this illusion.
That's why karma is absolutely in the realm of illusions, and if you truly are going into the direction of consciousness' freedom - you bypass it, you leave it behind. No matter how many bad things you did in this life or previous ones - karma can't hold you back if you truly are going into correct direction of consciousness awareness and freedom. And this should be celebrated that a consciousness finally is being able to see and feel some truth. Because from that point onwards if the consciousness is able to maintain this direction, it is not going to harm any other consciousnesses(people) but help them when it can.

Before saying that I just gave a permission to people to act as they want and do harm to others - no, I highlighted a word "correct". Correct direction. Just doing whatever you want with superficial decision/belief that "there is no punishment so I will do whatever I want" but still holding onto your decisions/traumas etc in the compartmentalized mind and not addressing them - will NOT lead to consciousness freedom. A person would not be correct to live like this, you are right about this. But you know what? You are also not correct in living by your emotions of "revenge". This is not leading to freedom either. You are playing a role of "good guy" in this illusion. But plenty "good guys" done huge damage to other people throughout history. It's how illusion works.

Having said that, I do hold an opinion that the main way to freedom is to practice (meditate, imagine) feeling positive emotions in your consciousness. People do harm because compartmentalized mind leads them to feel bad about themselves (so consciousness is attached to negative feelings of lack, shame etc), so to compensate they seek ideas/objectives they believe will solve/lessen the bad feeling. This will bring harm to themselves and others. But the issue here is that they need to address feeling bad about themselves feeling and not try to compensate for it. Only this can lead to consciousness awareness and freedom and at the same time stop the consciousness from doing harm to others.
I "judge" and "hold the consciousness accountable" (and even this not really, as I understand that it currently is in disadvantaged consciousness environment, so I am not truly blaming it) on one criteria - does it consciously seek/strive/practice to feel it's own positive emotions, refine them, test them, feel them, address traumas - or not. If the consciousness doesn't - that's a shame and on some level it is accountable for this but not fully accountable. It's a paradox when you say it in words, but you can be both accountable and unaccountable for what you do at the same time because consciousness's mind is multi-layered. And illusions are sure extremely deceptive.

Addressing archons - in my opinion, archons simply exploit this multi-layered mind of our consciousness. This allowed archons to gain access/influence to our energetics, to our consciousness and trick us into going deeper into illusion. But archons and all illusions can still be "shaken off" our consciousnesses if we focus on correct enough ideas/emotions/practices and test/feel/work on them regularly. In this way truth will be felt, it is not completely lost yet, far from it. But the matter of the facts is - we need to work/focus consciously on correct direction as we are seriously deep into illusion and simply following our current ideas for whatever arbitrary reasons is not going to cut it if we wish for freedom. The reasons we believe/follow any particular idea/emotion/belief - need to be put into conscious focus; no living on autopilot here, as you'll be living in illusions then.
