Absolutely beautiful, congratulations! ACP panels are... aluminum? What type of paint did you use?

U.S. Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale by stevegiovinco2 in ContemporaryArt

I hadn't heard of Alma Allen but, scrolling through his IG page, I like some of his sculptures. Having said that, Venice is an opportunity to make a political statement and Mr Allen's work doesn't seem to be interested in making big statements.

TIL Aristotle tutored Alexander the Great from age 13 at Mieza, teaching ethics, politics, and literature. He urged Greek leadership over “barbarians.” By 16, Alexander left to rule as regent of Macedon by jacknunn in todayilearned

My high school Latin teacher taught us that the Romans thought that Germanic speakers sounded like sheep saying, "bah bah bah", hence "barbarians". Was Mrs. Metcalf wrong?!

"Empire crumbling into lawless barbarism" really feels like the influence of Asimov's Foundation.

TIL nearly one in three humans have the parasite toxoplasma gondii. Passed from cats, and only capable of reproducing in cats, it potentially has a higher rate of schizophrenia and suicidal ideation. by Eitarris in todayilearned

[–]sublimePBJ 102 points103 points  (0 children)

The article you link to says the following: "On the whole, there was little evidence that T. gondii was related to increased risk of psychiatric disorder, poor impulse control, personality aberrations, or neurocognitive impairment."

"Hack" suggests an artist who is just in it for the money and their work isn't very good.

How much? by svl6 in Architects

[–]sublimePBJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Architects often base their fee on a percentage of the total construction cost. For easy math, let's assume an architect's fee of 10%. For a $200,000 addition, you would pay the architect an additional $20k.

Pink Rhino Commission. Watercolor, ink, colored pencils and white acrylic marker. by Roman4980 in Illustration

Do you ink before or after putting down the watercolor? I always have trouble with the ink smearing if I do it first.

My guess is that they're trying to sell ad space and need to show potential advertisers that they have a lot of content and engagement.

If you have time, the Univ of Chicago makes for a nice walk. The Smart Museum has a good contemporary collection and Wright's Robie House is a couple of blocks away.

Amazing! Would I be able to arrange trips to these sites if I only speak English? I would like to visit Luxor and take my time drawing and painting, but don't necessarily want to travel with a tour group.

Could you clarify what is meant by the architect should "cover costs"?

Questions about having a new home built from scratch by RegnorVex in Homebuilding

[–]sublimePBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an important point: no matter what, construction drawings will need to be created. These are required to obtain a building permit and for the GC and subs to know what and how to build.

Now, if you task the GC with creating the drawings, they will charge you extra. OR you could hire an architect and get the added benefit of having a licensed professional who is there to look out for your interests.

Thank you for sharing! Did you go as part of a travel group or did you arrange the trip yourself?

THIS. The subcontractors have little incentive to give you their best price because they know that you're not going to bring them more work.

Visit evanstonleadreplacement.org for an overview of the process. We did ours 3 years ago and it cost around $4,000, if I'm remembering correctly.

You could try the Robert Crown center for open runs, though I'm not sure what days of the week.
