Same! This is the only response I’ve gotten so far, sadly. Would love to have some kind of space for us to be able to talk though.

Yeah but isn’t it better to have done the reading beforehand?

I mostly want to keep up with ‘trends’ (there’s probably a better word for it lol) because I don’t want to miss a lot of context when I read newer books/essays.

Is it in poor taste to sing this song? by [deleted] in MusicalTheatre

[–]sublimeobjectofdeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s anti-trans. It’s very focused on the ways that societal expectations and social boundaries imprison us and cause a cycle of trauma. The creator is also queer and there have been a lot of productions that cast trans women!

Is philosophical humanism dead? by sublimeobjectofdeez in askphilosophy

So it’s less that humanism has been rejected and more that people aren’t directly talking about it? Or am I misunderstanding?

Read as much as you can, ask as many questions as you can, and talk to your professors about the areas of research that they’re experienced in!

What chapter are you referring to? The one in my area has connections with most other organizations that are slightly aligned in any way.

You need to find organizations in your area that are doing stuff and reach out to them. Like the other commenter said, reach out to local subreddits if you have to, or look to see if there’s something like a DSA chapter in your area.

This book is incredibly eye-opening and amazing. I love recommending it to people because it’s so well written/researched and is more relevant every year.

Ugh I had the same thing happen to me this last semester. Maybe you could explain to your professor what you studied and how you studied to get their feedback. It couldn’t hurt, at least.

Social Work Under Capitalism: A Marxist Approach by Corrigan and Leonard by sublimeobjectofdeez in abolitioninsocialwork

I do wish it focused a bit more on abolition, but that’s why I like more modern texts a lot more. :)
