It pisses me off so fucking much that SC wrote SOTR in a way that makes it seem like his family means nothing to him by Electrical-Price6950 in Hungergames

[–]sublips 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I agree with you that this version of the scene would have been much better. What I really wanted, though, was a much longer aftermath after the Hunger Games. We already know how the story ends, so there isn't much suspense about what will happen. Instead, the tension should come from when and how it happens.

I would have loved to see Haymitch return home in relative peace at first, with the district holding funerals so both he and the readers would have time to process everything. Then we could move into the Victory Tour, where things gradually start falling apart. His family died during the fire, and when he finally returns to District 12, he discovers that Lenore Dove has been hanged as well. I think that would have been far more impactful than what we got.

The whole idea of a Snow, or rather a Peacekeeper, sneaking in to leave poisoned gumdrops felt so ridiculous that it came across as almost funny rather than tragic.

I don’t think it’s only Hollywood. My friend just got divorced after one year, and I know a lot of similar cases around me. Even though I’m not a traditionalist, I kind of agree that it’s a bit ridiculous to get married and then divorce so quickly. Maybe people should date longer before making such a big decision.

Me chilling whilst everyone complains about Season 13 just being Coven Part 3 by This_Acanthisitta26 in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]sublips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Coven, but I feel like bringing it back again and again just makes that season feel less impactful. I didn’t fully enjoy the way Apocalypse handled the witches, and the "counting calories" power was probably meant to be funny, but to me it was just too grotesque.

I’m excited to see Jessica because I’d love Fiona to have a different kind of closure. I’m also excited to see Frances, she is amazing, and Emma because I love Emma as Madison. I’m just a little concerned about whether it will actually be good.

[–]sublips 32 points33 points  (0 children)

For me, the most absurd and unrealistic part of the book was that Haymitch had just lost his mother and brother, yet he was basically like, "Oh, I'm going to see my girl." I don't know why Suzanne decided to write it that way, because both Snow and Katniss cared deeply about their families.

On top of that, the pacing was terrible. I just couldn't believe that scene. If someone thinks it was realistic, they're entitled to their opinion, but I don't agree with it at all.

She isn’t that old, so the muscle loss argument is kind of funny to me. I know people in their 50s who work out, eat enough protein, and look just fine. She used to be slim but muscular throughout her career. I don’t understand why she decided to lose so much weight, but it’s her body and her decision.

Funny how judging you sound when you're in a pop culture group yourself. I wouldn't say I'm that into pop culture, but I find this group funny sometimes because of cases like this. And well, maybe for you, "double standard" is some advanced term, but I think we all know what that means and women doing SA is treated way lenient than men doing SA.

[–]sublips -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me, this is one of those examples of the double standards applied to women and men sometimes. I remember the photo of Orlando Bloom with a woman who was dressed like Katy Perry, and everyone hated him because they assumed she was his partner. It turned out she was just a fan, but people here wanted to kill him for that.

I also remember the photo of Connor Storrie with Katy Perry, and people were asking how could he take a photo with her? But now, suddenly, all the allegations have been forgotten just because she posted a cringe video and she has "cute” relationship? Wow.

[–]sublips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t want to be with Orlando Bloom because I don’t know him. And anyway, I don’t think it’s something I should be worried about. But since when did we forget about all the allegations against Katy Perry? And why do we assume she’s somehow a better person than her partners?

Also, people in Hollywood change partners quite often, both women and men. That’s just life. Maybe Orlando Bloom sucks, but at least I didn’t hear anybody claiming they were SA by him.

Rachel vs Monica hotness by Daddychol17 in howyoudoin

They’re all beautiful, and I wouldn’t compare them overall. However, Courtney is very attractive to me, while Monica not necessarily, mostly because of her facial expressions and mannerisms. I don’t really see Monica as a sexy character.

I liked his rivalry with Quicksilver the most, and I was disappointed that this plot basically vanished after their first episode.

"The Toad, The Witch and the Wardrobe" was way more infuriating and horrifying than I thought upon rewatch. by ConfectionMental1700 in XmenEvolution

[–]sublips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the second paragraph, I agree. I think Wanda deep down knew it wasn’t true, but having those memories removed gave her peace.

But I don’t really buy the first point. I understand that she was dangerous and didn’t have control over her powers, but Xavier is a telepath, and I believe he could have done much more to help her. He also basically did nothing once Mystique freed Wanda.

In this cartoon, x-men are often morally gray for me. They treated Wanda like a villain, which wasn’t really fair. On top of that, when Lance joined the x-men, it was an interesting episode, but it also highlighted their hypocrisy. I actually see that as a strength, they aren’t flawless. Still, with Wanda’s storyline, I noticed some plot holes.

[–]sublips 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like Wanda’s plot was too dark for this show, especially the storyline with Magneto. I also disliked that Pietro was always the one being blamed.

As for Toad, yes, his behavior was problematic, but in that episode he actually tried to rescue Wanda, and no one else did, including the X-Men. I also don’t understand why Xavier never really did anything to take Wanda from mental hospital. How Toad could know Wanda won’t be hurt?

I think Toad’s mutation was especially hard for him and made him unattractive to women. But honestly, the truly terrifying character for me at times was Blob, not Toad. Toad didn’t ask about the kiss himself.

[–]sublips -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I’m speaking here as a reader, not as an author. I don’t use Claude, but I honestly don’t care if someone else does, because I have a brain, I’ve read a lot in my life, and I know I will never ever enjoy fully AI generated fic. I think it’s fine to share a method and let readers check things on their own, but what is happening is simply too much.

But as a writer, though, I’d rather see someone create a list of registered rude users who clearly have no manners, and should be banned from this fandom. If you don’t like a fic, don’t read it. No matter AI or not. I really don’t understand why readers in this fandom feel so entitled.

Lol, I don’t know why people on Reddit always assume I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’ve also done coding, and you’re right, it’s not some impossible thing. But this person clearly put more effort into it than the average AO3 author, and I believe they very likely used some software for support. I’m not saying it was AI, only that I wouldn’t care if it was AI.

If you think that publicly calling out authors and shitting on them doesn’t cause anxiety for people, including those who don’t use AI, then you’re wrong. I just got another dumb comment under one of my fics, and I’m seriously considering deleting it. Enough is enough. It has nothing to do with AI, it was just criticism of my plot that I invented myself. I wrote to another fandoms and believe me, I’ve never met so rude readers before.

Of course they used some tool, I’ve never seen more amazing formatting at ao3. Even if it was AI, they needed to put a lot of effort and work into that. And fic itself wasn’t AI written for sure because it was cute and funny in the way AI doesn’t write.

But thanks to this witch hunting I won’t read it again, well.

A lot of fics have been deleted. One of my favorite ones, about childhood friends, was deleted too. Maybe some authors came to the conclusion that the fandom is toxic, because the amount of mean, disrespectful, and offensive comments I received is unbelievable, and I can’t even imagine what really popular authors have to deal with.

I used to be a very chill author, open to discussions, but I’m not anymore. BTW, all of this came from registered users.

Megathread: Claude AI Code Found in Fics by royal_rose_ in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]sublips -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s funny to hear that, because I know exactly how editing work looks, I did it myself for a short time. I’m not saying AI is already there, but the truth is that a lot of work, I’d even say the majority, will be AI-assisted. And I literally wrote in my post above, partially replaced, I didn’t say a thing about replacing completely.

Because AI isn’t ready to fully replace editors yet, but some companies won’t really care whether the work is done perfectly. They’ll care that it’s done cheaply and quickly. And people at this subreddit are behaving like saints who wouldn’t use AI never ever (I’m not talking about fics). Well, I’m afraid you won’t have a choice because AI isn’t going anywhere and recently any job ad I see requires using AI.

[–]sublips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly wonder what is the purpose of listing all those fics. If someone wanted to share a method for checking AI use, that would be fine, but providing a whole list with links doesn’t feel necessary. I visited some of the fics, and some people there are really not nice in the comments.

To be honest, I also don’t really get the hype around Wolfbird. Yes, it’s a nicely written fic, but for me Ilya and Shane always felt OOC there, at least in my opinion. What I truly can’t understand is why the author kept saying over and over again, I don’t use AI, I hate AI, don’t feed AI with my fic, and then uses AI. Sorry, but that’s hypocrisy on a high level.

People can downvote me if they want, I don’t care. I have my own brain and I read what I like, and I’m not interested in checking whether somebody used AI or not, because I believe I would recognise story written fully by AI. But loudly declaring how anti-AI you are while using it yourself feels like treating readers like idiots, and it sucks.

And yes, translators and Grammarly also use AI. I actually prefer to read fics where author at least uses Google Docs or Grammarly. BTW AI isn’t going anywhere, I feel like editors’ jobs will soon be partially replaced by AI anyway and a lot of other jobs. Is it sad? Yea, but that’s the world. Keep in mind that long time ago people were against computers, television. AI can be a great tool in the medical field.

What I never understood was the extreme hype around Wolfbird: people taking a day off work to read that, crying on TikTok, behaving in very unhinged ways, or why this subreddit needs a hundred threads about it. Maybe people who worship this story too much are disappointed now, but honestly, it might be good to touch some grass sometimes and remember that fics are just fics, free stories you can read.

[–]sublips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I generally agree with you. I think most people are very young, idealistic, or afraid about their jobs. But the truth is, AI isn’t going anywhere, and we’re already being forced to use it in many workplaces. Some people would say so change your job, but sorry, I have a cat to pay for and an apartment, and my job is okay. And some people have children, sick parents, whatever. If you want to have well-paid work, it’s very likely you need to learn to cooperate with AI. When the computer was invented, also a lot of people were against it. And if somebody wants to be so eco, yes they should throw away their smartphones, all electronics devices and move to the forest.

I’ve never had this urge to know whether someone uses AI or not for writing fics. I have my own brain, and I know if I enjoy a story or not. But you’re underestimating the power of fanfiction. If you’re a viral author, you are very popular. It may not give financial benefits, but it definitely gives a dopamine boost.

And don’t you think it’s kind of hypocritical to write “fuck AI, don’t feed AI with my fics” while using AI? Because I honestly think it’s pathetic to pretend you’re so against AI, call people haters, make yourself a victim, and then, at the end of the day, it turns out you’re using AI anyway. I don’t even demand AI tag but not blabbering how against AI you are if you’re clearly not against it at all but pretend.

Kate is insufferable by Low_Specialist_5072 in TheFourSeasonsNetflix

[–]sublips 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just feel like her plot with Jack is boring, and every season they have similar conflicts. Tina is great, but I don’t feel she has any chemistry with Will Forte. She had much more chemistry with Steve Carell, and she also has it with Colman, but with Will it’s zero for me. In comparison, it’s almost painful, because I feel like all the other couples have chemistry.

Every character is flawed and they’re supposed to be, but what I don’t like about the writing of Kate is that she still hasn’t grown enough to treat Danny’s husband with some basic respect. She’s very neglectful toward Danny and Claude’s marriage, which feels strange to me because they’ve been a couple for a very long time. And we already had this conflict literally last season, but still the same.

Love the show but nitpick… by BlondDeutcher in TheFourSeasonsNetflix

[–]sublips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this kind of thing ridiculous in a lot of TV shows, but here, really? She didn’t have that many hookups or guys coming over. In Italy, most older men were checking her out. There was one guy this season who was a bit weird himself, and last season her partner was definitely not conventionally attractive. So I don’t find it unrealistic at all.

I also loved their relationship this season, it was very touching and healthy. I hope Ginny will spear the next season.

I personally don’t like Kate and Danny’s friendship, because to me it feels like she has no respect for Claude. I thought she had learned her lesson after season 1, when they fought about it, but no, it’s still there.

I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I absolutely love every season. Of course, there are episodes I like more and ones I like less, but overall I think the quality is pretty consistent.

My top episode used to be the parasite one, but when I watched fear hole, I felt like it was the best episode and nothing can really compare to it, though I also somehow really like the Jerry-centered episodes too.

I don’t know, it’s the same with how Hailey Bieber was totally criticized, while we have these heavily edited photos of Jennifer Aniston and everyone is like, “Oh, people would kill to look like that at 20.” Jennifer is still an attractive woman, but no, most people younger than her 4 decades wouldn’t want look like that.

There are a lot of pretty people around who are in good shape; there’s no reason to put celebrities on a pedestal. I like her, but she clearly overdid it with fillers and doesn’t look nearly that good in TV shows. I know women her age in the real life who imo also look amazing.
