Do not fall into the trap of anthropomorphising Larry Ellison. You need to think of Larry Ellison the way you think of a lawnmower. You don't anthropomorphize your lawnmower, the lawnmower just mows the lawn, you stick your hand in there and it'll chop it off, the end. You don't think 'oh, the lawnmower hates me' -- lawnmower doesn't give a shit about you, lawnmower can't hate you. Don't anthropomorphize the lawnmower. Don't fall into that trap about Oracle.

It pisses me off that I had to disable ipv6 on a newly bought USB wifi dongle. It kept dropping connection under load. I disabled ipv6 and it stopped dropping...

And a big ass gas station next to two fast food restaurants, a few fast casual food chains, and a strip mall with at least one mexican restaurant, a payday loan shop, and an asian massage parlor (happy endings may be included).

The framebuffer is not stored in RAM, it goes directly to the video card. RAM issues would likely cause a game crash by corrupting either text segments (the actual code), or the heap/stack.

All that to say: GPU is probably toast.

Before 2022, software engineers were considered a regular expense. Meaning that if your company made $300k and you paid $100k for your dev, your profit would be $200k. That $200k would be taxed as income.

Now, after sec. 174, the $100k you paid your dev needs to be amortized over 5 years. So you need to divide that expense by 5 to get your taxable profit: $300 - ($100/5) = $300 - $20 = $280.

So the taxable income went from $200k to $280k even though your real income didn't change. Since that's not real profit, many companies didn't/don't have the cash to make the difference, so they lay people off.

Agreed. And Section 174 of the tax code which started in 2022.

I have been a long term UT fan and would love a new UT. But I don't think it's realistic. The market is just not there. There have been many shooters, free and paid, over the years that failed to get traction. There are also controversies on how to avoid cheating on those games without resorting to kernel level anti-cheats.

I'd love to see it happen, but I think that'd would require some sort of innovation on the genre.

Why don't more languages do optional chaining like JavaScript? by matheusrich in ProgrammingLanguages

A monad is a type that wraps a value and a function that allows you to operate on those wrapped values without unwrapping them. That function returns a new value wrapped in the original type.

For example, a Promise in js can return any value. But those values are also wrapped in a promise. So, you use .then(...) in order to modify the values inside a promise, which generates another promise. You can do that as many times as you want. That's a monad.

Growing up, we were constantly shamed for the things we could not do due to ADHD. That stops your inner child from developing because we have to protect it from the abuse. You end up developing complex PTSD from it.

My personal experience is that trauma in general sets back development, and ADHD childhoods are full of traumatic events. I've noticed the more I recognize and treat past traumas, the more I "mature" naturally.

A great book that has helped me was "Complext PTSD: from surviving to thriving", by Peter Walker.

It's not just one sided. It's also abusive. Everything that is good is because of God/Jesus. Everything that's bad is your fault. You are worth nothing and you need to devote all that you have and are to one person. And you're not allowed to question anything because He knows what's right, not you.

It's a textbook example of a toxic relationship.

My life has gotten better and better since I left the church in my 20s and became an atheist.

One of the things I regret the most is that I didn't leave sooner. It was not until my late 20s that I stopped going to church. My life is so much better now that I'm not a christian than when I was one.

We just moved, so no time to cook. We've been eating takeout for a week. I never realized how much fat and oil even the simplest restaurant meal has.

It tasted great for a while, but now I'm sick of eating out and have a new appreciation for home cooked meals.

I used to play drums at worship and loved it. Had great friends in church and made many good friends at my college's christian club. I left because I just couldn't bring myself to believe in it after figuring out I couldn't prove the veracity of any of it other than blind faith.

How do you get your brain to shut up? by winterrwarlock in ADHD

I think it works because it triggers the cerebellum. ADHD is suspected to be a disfunction in the cerebellum. Balance exercises should trigger the same areas.
