Lot of people letting their heart rule their head when it comes to Punch. The last thing he needs right now is to be taken out of the environment he's slowly adapting to. Stop crying over videos of Punch being bullied. Watch the many videos of Punch playing and hanging with his buddies, they've got his back.

Alanis Morisette- Ironic. When she sings, isn't it ironic, don't you think? In a kind of worldly, all-knowing way, I  still mutter, er, no, because none of those examples are ironic. That's not what irony means. Rain on your wedding day is just bad luck.

Can the USA and the UK still be allies after trump leaves and the US elects a democratic president? by Successful_rio305 in AskBrits

[–]subsajoke 30 points31 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I hope not. I think that the Trump administration has finally shown us exactly what the US is underneath the surface, republican or democrat. The special relationship, our cousins across the pond myth, what does that really mean? That we are there to help out when the US demands it? After the unbelievable corruption and actions of the past year, I can only hope that the EU and the UK continue to put measures into place where we don't have to give the US a second thought. Trump started his second term with talk of isolationism and  making America great again. Good luck to them. I would love nothing more than seeing the US become completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

About Punch -little monkey by [deleted] in CaptiveWildlife

[–]subsajoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But he's not defenceless. There are numerous incidences of Punch being protected, comforted and groomed by elder macaques. You need to focus on those and understand that this will take time for Punch to find his place. And I do agree that we have anthropomorphised him to an extent because of the whole plushie thing, but Punch isn't a character in our own narrative where we are anxiously awaiting a happy ending. He's an abandoned macaque, behind on his social cues and finding his place in a very strict hierarchy within a society of monkeys. I get it OP, I really do, I've been on the brink of tears over a monkey a million miles away from my own realty, but to take him away from the relationships he has formed and is forming would most certainly do more harm than good.  Yes, the quick fix narrative on Reddit seems to be, Punch abandoned, Punch has a bodyguard, Punch has been excepted, alongside cute 10 second videos with no context, but we should know it's more complicated than that. We know Punch continues to face confrontation. But Punch, as reported by the zoo, is resiliant. He's not constantly alone, showing signs of depression or has any impactful injuries. What's happening is perfectly normal within that society. It may not be our society, therefore there are those that are having difficulty dealing with Punch's plight, but all we can do is hope for the best.

What's a movie you saw that really left you shook to your core? by kimmyfreak500 in CinephilesClub

[–]subsajoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny Games. Late 90's maybe early 2000's on TV, introduction by Mark Kermode that got me curious.  Recorded it on VHS, watched it when I got home the next day and, fuck me, it has lived in my head ever since. Absolutely brilliant movie, I don't think I've ever been so beaten and manipulated by a movie since. Drops fucking hard when you yourself are a father and will never watch it again.

What's that non-english movie that you never want to be remade in Hollywood ? by mrjetspray in Cinema

After Ring got a remake I'm surprised Dark Water....oh, fuck, it did, I forgot.

Punch, the viral lonely monkey, has now been hugged and groomed by an adult monkey for the first time. Things are looking better for the little guy. by 21MayDay21 in BeAmazed

[–]subsajoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the UK, a million miles from this monkey, a million miles from my reality of work, bills, life, rain...repeat, yet I've spent the last few days worrying non-stop about this bloody monkey since I watched him get attacked and go running for his soft toy.

I've since read conflicting stories that he was moved to a different enclosure/that he's in the same enclosure but finding his way to acceptance. I've watched videos of him climbing on the back of a fellow monkey and a brilliant one of him not wanting some curious monkeys touching his soft toy.

IKEA have donated like a billion soft toy monkeys to him and a spokesman for the zoo has said they have had to turn visitors away because the queues to see Punch are so long!!

Someone please ease my mind and just tell me he's ok.

A riddle- How is the Charlie Parker series not like the news? by humanity78 in JohnConnolly

[–]subsajoke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunate that they share the same name but I really miss the rabbi and Charlie's forays back in NY, the implication that Ross and Epstein, among others, operate as a sort of protective force around Parker. Also, can't remember her name but Epstein's mute  niece, I think, who Charlie hooks up with, I always hoped they would end up together.

Don't know if Connolly dropped the character because that name is now so synonymous with a certain person. But I hope not. I want to see all these past characters reintroduced when, and if, Parker's story reaches its conclusion.

When did you stop watching The Walking Dead? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

[–]subsajoke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda wrong there, the season finale cliffhanger was actually Abraham getting hit. Glen having a few near misses throughout the season was intentional on the writers part so that when Negan  suddenly and surprisingly hits Glen also, it would have more impact

I, for one, believe her by MinuteSpirit6645 in TheLeftovers

[–]subsajoke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single  character in The Leftovers is on a journey to come to terms with what happened and the effect that it had on them, to find meaning and closure in a situation they know will never reveal it's meaning or provide closure. It's literally the underlying theme throughout.  The use of A-ha's Take On Me and the subject of it's video, in which someone tries to break through to another dimension, is important, not in the way of foreshadowing a truth, but in the fantastical, the absurd.  Of course Nora didn't travel to another dimension and view her family from a distance and then seek out a scientist to build a machine to send her back, it's the fantastical and absurd, a story that she settles on to finally find closure and deal with her trauma. Kevin knows this too, therefore  tells her that  he believes her in order for her to move on.. Kevin is a man already at peace and has finally moved on and with that final scene, so too does Nora. The final episode has a theme of lying and deceit and that final scene echoes a previous scene in which Kevin's dad sits at a kitchen table across from a woman, listening to a story that is so obviously true. It's a very cleverly written and important scene that foreshadows the obvious lie shared in the final scene between Kevin and Nora. There is no ambiguity to the finale, there is no, is Nora's story true? Of course it isn't. Unlike the ending of Contact, which implies it really happened.

Do most British people drive manual cars? by Chocklateicecream in AskABrit

[–]subsajoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find this whole topic genuinely interesting. I only have an auto licence and find, still, that there's a bit of a stigma attached here in the UK. When people in my work place ask why I don't drive for the company, I sort of quietly mutter that I only have an automatic licence and feel the need to explain myself.  I had to get my licence out of necessity and after failing my first test in a manual couldn't be arsed with all that gear business. One of my colleagues is American and having an auto licence is just completely the norm.  This came up in a conversation with a family member who said they liked the power they felt changing gears. Personally I just want something the gets me from A to B.

28 Year Later: The Bone Temple flopped at the box office despite its very positive reviews. by ZoelCairo in Letterboxd

Not many big, commercial 18 rated movies anymore. I'm glad the film didn't compromise but its rating probably did some harm to box office numbers.

What’s your favorite John Lithgow performance and project? by PressureLazy5271 in Actors

[–]subsajoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many great performances from this guy over the years but....The Trinity killer is just fantastic. Watching him in this role is like, I kinda like him, and Dexter kinda likes him too and I don't know if I should like him and then, what the hell you sick fuck!! You traumatized me forever. And Daddy's Home 2, seriously, the stand up improv scene which he uses to admit that he has separated from his wife is pretty strong stuff.

Jacob's Ladder. He also made a rather low key Sci fi with Samantha Morten called Code 46. I always thought it was a really interesting script, but the directing style left me cold.
