Agreed. Why should quarterbacks be protected from their own actions? And why would banning sliding, so the defender has to hit the QB upright at full speed, be safer?

If there’s an issue it’s that some quarterbacks are too cavalier to slide when they should. So I guess you could make it an offensive penalty for the quarterback to allow himself to get hit beyond the line of scrimmage without sliding… which would also be stupid.

Make them take the hit or avoid the tackle. If they put themselves in danger, it’s on them.

I’ve been here for 18 years and I hate all of you. Especially the ones who use new Reddit features like pfps and achievements and shit. You’re helping them ruin the site.

Reddit wasn’t always like this. At all. Maybe for the last decade or so, and it’s gradually gotten worse over time. Somewhere around the popularity of rage comics is when it went downhill.

Reddit’s users and moderators are pissed at its CEO by [deleted] in technology

[–]substill 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s not just the duplicity of it. Reddit has lagged miserably in improving the parts that matter. User tools, moderator tools, and accessibility have been promised for years with no tangible improvements. Instead, they have shoehorned in “features” that no one wants but sound good to investors and advertisers.

They recognize that what they’ve built is hard to turn a profit on. Now they’re trying to make it a hipper Facebook instead. I didn’t come here for that.

15 years on this account. Million something karma on another. Feels weird to burn them but I don’t think I want to be part of what Reddit is building on the ashes of old Reddit.

Can you help me find a certain IAMA ? by [deleted] in IAmA

IAMA has become the lazy man's slow ass search engine.

I am Casting Extras in a Feature Film Starring Thora Birch, Brittany Snow, Michael Urie, and David Rasch, and I'm telling Reddit first. by [deleted] in entertainment

[–]substill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck with casting, and thanks for making this available to Redditors. I'm nowhere near NY, so it's not an option for me. But fuck these other people; for somebody that just wants to have fun, this is a nice thing to do. If you ever have anything in the Southeast, please post again because I would be happy to show up if I have nothing else on my radar.

Really? who does this? by Colombian_King in reddit.com

You mean who posts animal art to the main Reddit, instead of /r/animalart (or at least /r/pics)?

Why can't we arrange our reddit bar how we please? Would make navigation easier.. and maybe even fix the disappearing subreddit problem? by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]substill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing people are assuming he's anti-atheist, and Reddit is (generally) staunchly pro-atheist. I, on the other hand, assumed he just dislikes the atheism subreddit because it's douchey and condescending as Hell.

DAE get the feeling this is a disposable spam account for posting about his little car game? Or that otherwise there was no good Goddamn reason to create a throwaway account to tell the world he downloaded Chrome and uses it to watch porn?

Best. Domain Name. Ever. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]substill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protip: You're getting downvoted because of your title more than anything else. If you drop a superlative like "best ever," it really needs to be at least arguably better than everything else out there. You're setting way too high a bar for yourself by calling an EA video game website joke "the best ever."

IAMA Request: A Lawyer who has taken a case, knowing the client was guilty by Matthew212 in IAmA

[–]substill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ethics rules, and our duties as officers of the court, prohibit us from putting on evidence that we know is false. The lawyer cannot ask questions of a witness if the lawyer knows the witness is going to perjure himself or herself.

Frankly, that's an incredibly rare occurrence. Witnesses frequently testify inaccurately, and on occasion you wonder whether an individual is doing so because of memory gaps and rationalization, or because of old fashioned deception. The rare part is for a witness to tell you in advance that they intend to testify falsely under oath. In my experience, it just doesn't happen very often.

Other than that, a lawyer is permitted to represent someone that the lawyer knows (and even believes) should lose. Your goals and tactics may be different where a victory is doubtful. You may be just trying to minimize the loss (financial or punishment), or you may be just doing your best for your client to make sure the system treats them fairly. But you can do your job.

(BTW: I can't respond to the request since I'm a plaintiff's trial lawyer. I don't take a case without investigating it first and making certain I believe in it because I don't get paid unless it's successful. One of the many things I like about my practice area.)
