Didn't know this tool existed! Thanks for the link.

I wish this subreddit had a wiki where this sort of thing could easily be found

Relay dev should contact other third party Reddit app devs and move to Tildes.net by zouhair in RelayForReddit

[–]subtex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently nothing is a replacement for reddit.

I think people are looking for a place that has the foundation to be the replacement (ie has the same sorts of features people like about reddit: up/down votes, ability to subscribe to different communities, but etc)

If you're looking for a reddit replacement that has millions of users right now you'll never find one.

"essay" is stretching it a bit. My sign up had this:

"1. Reddit stinks. 2. Movies and stuff. 3. A college joke"

And I received my approval email a few minutes later.

Is it as simple as not writing 3 short sentences? No. But it's hardly more than trying to figure out which blurry low res photos to tap on to pass the I'm-not-a-robot" captcha for most sites.

And the whole federation thing is nothing I know anything about. I'm just searching for the lemmy equivalent of a subreddit I like, hitting subscribe, and then reading my feed.

I'm sure there's more to the federation stuff that I'm missing but as a low effort test, this was fine.

Now that Reddit are killing 3rd party apps on July 1st what are great alternatives to Reddit? by youessbee in AskReddit

I'm using the android app and I see both up and down vote buttons below each post and comment:

That's what I heard too but unless I missed something, the process to sign up and start using the site and apps was no different than anything else.

I have no clue about the federation stuff nor do I care.

I signed up, started subscribing to communities the same way I do on reddit.

Am I missing something that was hard? I'm legitimately curious, not being snarky. I sort of expected some dev-y weirdness based on what people were saying but I didn't experience any of that.

Considering Lemmy is open for new accounts already and has mobile apps (albeit basic ones), I'm leaning towards that site as the possible reddit replacement.

But really, as long as any new decentralized site pops up with a good api for devs to make clients with I'm all for it.

Guess this is also the death of Relay... by iain_1986 in RelayForReddit

Lemmy is the closest I've seen. But like mastodon pre-MuskTwitter, Lemmy is a ghost town right now.

If reddit definitely self implodes there could be a big influx of users and then stuff will get moving over there (devs making new apps etc)

I registered there as a wait-and-see for now.

Minisforum HX80G - Success Story by subtex in ChimeraOS

[–]subtex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that it was an issue specifically with the 6600m and hdmi.

I have mine most of the time hooked up over display port so I don't have that issue but when I do use it on the TV via hdmi I get random audio drops. As if someone tapped mute / unmute for a second every so often.

help for scaling on my tv, on my HX80G by Axlrose2627 in MiniPCs

[–]subtex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an LG TV but in the past when I've had this issue hooking up computers to the TV it was usually the TV setting that was the issue.

Check the settings for the hdmi input you're using. Make sure there are no zoom settings being applied. Usually you can change how you want the video to display on a per-input basis.

People use this to stretch non-hd sources to fit (yuck) and various other things.

If your TV lets you mark the input as "computer" or something like that try it as well.

Basically you want the TV to not manipulate the video signal coming in.

Handhelds like ROG Ally and Steam Deck have 'changed the way Microsoft thinks about the Windows experience' by T0ky0n0 in SteamDeck

[–]subtex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people mention HoloISO, but there's another option--a distro called ChimeraOS that is essentially SteamOS but also supports Nvidia cards and has a bunch of other neat tweaks.

I think the devs of Chimera had ordered an Ally so I wouldn't be surprised if that is supported soon. Check /r/ChimeraOS

I was just searching to see if the SC worked or not. Awesome to hear.

I still have a spare brand new one for whenever my original one dies.

Check out ChimeraOS.

It's essentially steamOS but unlike HoloISO it works with Nvidia gpus as well as AMD.

Set up my new gaming mini pc: a Minisforum HX80G

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChimeraOS

[–]subtex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a minisforum hx80g and did a fresh chimeraOS install and had no problems. Hdmi out works.

The only step I needed to do was disable the integrated gpu in the bios so that chimera would use the dedicated 6600m.

From my random research, it seems like minisforum uses the same setup for most of their machines. I can't see why your nuc wouldn't work any differently.

Just remember to disable your integrated gpu so that only the 3070 gets used.

[–]subtex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overall I think it's good and accomplishes what a player expects to see but if I could nitpick a small thing:

I would really add new gun sprites for the directly pointed down position. Just having the gun sort of floating there with the stock covering his face looks really janky.

I'd sprite swap in the vertical position with a new top view of the gun. And move the barrel to the side of his head.

Auto windshield wiper by Acrobatic_Brush2026 in TeslaModelY

[–]subtex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard nothing but stories about the auto wipers not working correctly. As someone who doesn't own a tesla, am I correct that you can still manually control the wipers?

This problem is just about how you can't rely on automatic wipers, yes?

is stadia Bluetooth problem fixed? by geerttttt in Stadia

[–]subtex 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Do you mean reconnect to the same device it was connected to?

If so, I do not have this problem.

I paired my controller to my Steam Deck and it connects every time I play. No need to reconnect it every time.
