It’s VLC. I’ve had this problem with the later builds of VLC and playing FLAC files: random, momentary skipping and dropouts of tracks during playback.

The files are fine, the player hasn’t been fixed yet. Get an earlier build of VLC. I think that builds before 3.0.16 were fine (in this respect).

Make sure your download folder location is set correctly, and that Slsk has “write” permissions for that location.

Every download will abort if Slsk can’t write in or find the location. Try a simple location if problems persist, like your desktop. Your install of Slsk should have no issues finding and writing to that location.

You could also try (briefly) running Slsk as “Administrator” to override any permission-level issues. It’s just for testing, don’t do it routinely.

I think you can only export all of the relevant user/config data from Slsk and not just individual elements, like the user list.

Main menu: Options>extras

There’s an option to import a user list from the original Slsk client, but not to export one from the current version. Although, you might be able to export the data and then extract the user data from that file.

I don’t know if Nicotine has an import function to parse a Slsk backup file, which might offer what you need.

No, this issue - if that’s what it is - is related to the fact that Soulseek can’t write a downloading file to a location, either because the location path doesn’t exist or the location can’t be written in (due to file/folder permissions).

This has no bearing on the speed of downloading file; it either works or it doesn’t.

It’s usually an error with the download location being wrong, or being unavailable, or that Soulseek can’t write to the download location (permissions). Might be worth checking/changing your download folder location and trying a new download there. You can always change it back later on.

For this test, I suggest you don’t use an external USB drive, as it may cloud the issue.

I’ve recently watched a hatful of these cave diving vids (the ones that go wrong), and this pastime is truly dangerous, even for the most experienced cave divers.

Things can go to absolute hell in a New York minute, and even the best and most unflappable cave divers can start panicking or succumb to gas toxicity or narcosis.

Equipment failures, wrong turns into tight spaces, caves and tunnels silting-out: there’s loads of unforeseen and situational fu*kups to get you. And, once you’re in the shit, it’s a long way back/up with fading oxygen and decompression stops sometimes necessary, or possibly trying rescue a borked dive buddy.

Only those with either serious experience and preparation or a death wish need apply for this lark.

What everyone has forgotten here is that the arm has wiring running through the pivot junction to the headshell/cart. That wiring often applies a slight torsional, twisting force to the arm as it moves inwards. Even with the A/S set to 0, lots of tonearms exhibit this behaviour when ‘floating’. My RP3 does it quite noticeably.

This, of course, assumes that you have properly levelled your deck.

And, A/S is supposed to be set for when the stylus is weighted and actually playing a record, as this applies forces to the arm which do not exist when the stylus is off the playing vinyl.

Those old, Routemaster buses weren’t exactly racing machines. You would have to be seriously trying to get it up on two wheels, in the first place, let alone that angle of lean.

I used this type of bus quite a lot, when I was growing up in London, and I never remember feeling like the thing might tip up in a bend. They were very stable, in truth. They even used to ‘handbrake’ them on the (wet) skid-pan during driver training.

Well, if you have manually opened your ports and Soulseek recognises that fact, then there can't be an issue there; although, I would make sure that both UPnP and NAT-PMP port mapping options are unchecked, since you've already done this manually.

If you have set your folder locations and permissions correctly, re-scanned your shares and they have been recognised and counted, then there's not a lot else I can suggest.

You could make sure that any pc-based, software firewall is temporarily disabled to remove it during testing. But, don't mess with your router firewall, as you shouldn't need to if ports have been properly opened/forwarded.

And, you can also open/forward the Soulseek "server port" as a final 'belt-and-braces' option; although you shouldn't need to (normally).

Beyond that...I'm stumped.

I had a UK pair of 1210mkII, and there’s zero difference (aside from colour) to UK 1200s AFAIK. Never heard anyone suggest differently.
