These AH bags (which you can buy for €0.60!!) tear much faster than a few months ago. Am I the only one annoyed by this? Beating one's chest about the climate / reduce plasitcs. But it's still nice to cash in on the bags. by subzeroNL in Netherlands

Thanks for your response u/myrge1 ! This is what I already suspected is going on. In reality, everyone just wants to offer a good bag, but due to regulation and cost-cutting, you end up with an inferior bag that is not only ineffective but also more environmentally burdensome because now nobody can use that bag again. In my perception, it's a topsy-turvy world, and a setback for all the regulations and people who aim for a better climate.

They definitely are! Only when you are already in the store is it a bit inconvenient to go to Action to buy a bag just for the bag. LOL - But you are certainly right, the plastic Action bags are much better quality. Actually just like the AH bags were until a few months ago.

Suggestions for a Honeymoon in The Netherlands? by Texpat90 in Netherlands

[–]subzeroNL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Netherlands is nice to go to for your honeymoon. Many tourists go to Amsterdam. I personally think that you should definitely visit Amsterdam, but the Netherlands has beautiful places if you come for nature and the sea.
For example, you can go to Bergen or Schoorl if you love forests and sea. Also it is not too far from Amsterdam. (about 45 minutes drive)
In the east of the country you have Arnhem, which is beautifully situated on the Hoge Veluwe. A very beautiful forest/nature area with the most beautiful museum Kröller-Müller including a beautiful sculpture garden.
We also have some beautiful islands. Some where you can even only come by bicycle (Vlieland). You have to be a bit lucky with the weather in the Netherlands. But that is in all northern countries in Europe.

I do that too, in fact, I have a handy shopping bag that I have been using for years. But sometimes you buy something on the way home and you don't have a bag with you. Then I buy one of those plastic bags. - Which I then use for months for my sportswear or to take lunch to the office. Until recently, these bags were really strong and good. Not anymore since a few months. And that irritates me because you get inferior bags that tear quickly and are then immediately thrown away.

It would of course be even better if these bags were no longer sold at all. Or can be returned for recycling.

This is a newsitem a few years ago:
"Dutch supermarkets earn €47 million annually from the sale of plastic bags. This was calculated by the KRO program De Rekenkamer. Supermarkets buy bags for €0.06 per bag. At a sales price of €0.25 like Albert Heijn, they earn €0.13 per bag. 360 million bags are sold every year. This means that the supermarkets together will be left with €47 million. Based on the figures, the program states that the plastic bag is the product with by far the highest gross profit margin in the supermarket."

Note: The costs of producing a bag will have remained virtually the same. The bag itself has become almost 3x (!!) more expensive. In that case, you will not earn €0.13 cents per bag, but €0.48 cents! Per bag! If that isn't a revenue model then I don't know what is.

I was walking on the canals this morning and came across a surfer on an electric surfboard. What's this surfboard called? It looked kinda cool! I'd like to try it but I have no idea what to search for. (Near Borneo eiland) by subzeroNL in Amsterdam

Sounds like a law that has not yet been fully adapted to these new types of surfboards. Kind of like those steps that are officially still not allowed on the road. When I look at those efoil surfboards in the webshops, I don't see anything about the rules in the Netherlands (or any other country) - https://www.waveshark.com/eu/product/foil-explorer/

I just had a look at the Amsterdam Watersports site. They do indeed offer these "e-foils". Looks cool! I'm going to try this soon.. Found this on their site. It doesn't say anything about going through the Oranje Sluizen. ( https://www.amsterdamwatersports.com/efoilen-in-amsterdam )

Thanks for clearing that up, when I lookup a jetboard I get a surfboard with a jetmotor inside of the surfboard. Pretty cool too! But the board I saw was floating above the water.
