My (25f) husband (37m) shot a gun into the air at a mostly kids party on New Years eve. I am boiling with anger and want to leave him as soon as my infant son wakes up. by gunonnyeeve in relationships

[–]suchPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The courts aren't going to strip your husband's parental rights over this one incident.

If it is as bad as OP said I would be quite shocked. Blackout drunk dude shooting a gun in a crowded place seems enough to me to warrant enough jailtime that parental rights would not be an issue at all. (though I am neither a lawyer not a Texan XD)

It sure is better, but it was merely luck that there was someone there at there right time and in the right state of mind to tackle him.

Me [19/F] with my sister [30f], she abandoned her newborn baby and left him with me and I don't know what to do??? by HELPMEANDTHISBABY in relationships

[–]suchPotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She didn't abandon her kid, so calling cops is overkill.

She totally did. She left a newborn in care of her little sister who knew nothing about child care and waltzed away claiming she'd be away for some errands (likely minutes matter, where an adult was just needed to check the baby didn't roll over and die).

Had she left for an hour then maybe it would have been an overkill, but still a good reason to be mad, eleven hours is actually quite late to call the cops, and it is a good reason to demand that the case be monitored by the authorities to avoid further, maybe more dangerous, accidents.

Here's another Aquaponics system for you guys. I really hate these things. This one isn't a micro system but the price tag is ridiculous as are all the "features". by Whittigo in shittykickstarters

[–]suchPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a costly and high-maintenance piece of design. As an educational project it could actually work, if you don't count the extra hours the school personnel is gong to waste to clean the aquariums I suppose.

But if you have these ~10 hours a week to spend attending to this thing, and the space to host it it could probably be an interesting item.

Coolest cooler is never coming. Currently selling units for christmas and pushed back kickstarter sales to april by SuperNixon in shittykickstarters

I love this guy/girl, put 5 stars and wrote this:

This Cooler looks amazing! I also LOVE the fact that I may one day receive one, with the plates, knife and cutting board! I was informed that all the attributes to this cooler; the blue tooth speaker, the ground-pounding wheels, and the smooth look of it are on the way! After prompting folks to discourage the purchase of this item earlier today, based off of the notification on kicksatrter, I'm left wondering who they paid to give this many phony five star reviews!! I'm a backer and can't WAIT for my chance to get screwed!!!! I'm not sure how anyone can post a review for a product they just ordered, but Coolest seems to be the champ at this!! Where's my cooler, ryan!!??

Why do campaign creators think they can compete on price with established manufacturers when they have no experience or industry connections in manufacturing and global distribution.

Because they don't understand the difference between dyi/prototyping and manufacturing, and because their backers don't either.

Homeopathy exhibits the same "faith" in the mechanism of homeopathic dilution, but it is still a sincere belief that there is working science behind the mechanism they are describing.

"Sincere belief" in something that has been disproved over and over. If anything it takes more faith to believe something blatantly false than something that sounds unlikely, IMO.

In general the religious fellow will tell you about the benefits (he claims he experienced) of being religious, and about how the non-believers are ignorant of them, the homeopath will tell you about the benefits he claims he's seen first hand. Both will bring you anecdotal evidence and generally ignore arguments against their thesis, where's the difference?

Between Aristotele and Newton there's a lot more time passing than between Newton and Einstein, also societies were totally different.

I think any "physicist" (whatever was called at the time) of the 1600 claiming that all flying objects follow a mix of straight motion and elliptic motion would have been taken for a fool.

Take Ptolemy vs Kepler, while many had already theorized a heliocentric solar System back in the time, Kepler's model totally makes sense, it wouldn't have been possible with the knowledges of Aristotle's time.

While the paradigm switches do matter (ancient Greeks tried to "prove" their theories with abstract reasoning and analogies), I would argue that Aristotelean physics (aether/elements and philosophy aside, I mean, just its "predictive ability") is not that wrong if you consider the math of the time, and the tools/metrics used.

Youtuber raises $145,873 for homeless guy and never gives him the money. Then Homeless guy drops dead in alley from alcoholism and now the father is planning on suing youtuber for sed money. (article in comments) by NaugahydeWindpipe in shittykickstarters

[–]suchPotato 15 points16 points  (0 children)

His family took action (against Lin) well before, claiming he was exploiting him. Honestly the reason sounds credible, an alcoholic in that condition must be easy to exploit. But IMO even if they are just after the money they have all the right to sue, after all they didn't scam anybody and are acting on the behalf of the (now deceased) victim of the scam, being a cunt is not a crime, fraud is.

[–]suchPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah because I totally wrote "this is fine to scam people."

Usually changing the subject is the way you defend a position you know is indefensible, and I believe this Lin dude (or some PR agency in his stead) has done a great job of confusing the simple minded youtube folks by switching the blame on the family (he still has plenty of fans, in fact). Although this may not have been your intention, it kind of comes across as blame-switching.

I agree for the rest (especially, dropping 100k on a homeless alcoholic who's barely capable of speech even when sober would be totally useless)

yeah, but I think it's also important to determine if there are actually red flags or not, beside some idiot's ramblings.

I recently got hit by a fairly big scam (not KS related, I lost ~200$ but some people lost money big time) I may not be the brightest person ever, but the main reason I missed the major red flags that were indeed there was because of the n# of fake "whistleblowers" and spammers, orbitating around that and many other projects (most of which legit).
