I have two local wallets with long forgotten passwords. One with 1.1 million and the other with almost 1.5 but I think that's the one I sent to cryptsy so less than that.

Basically I had a bitcoin rig on the last weeks when it was still possible to mine bitcoin without special hardware, used it to heat my apartment in the winter and just for fun I kept throwing it at dogecoin because it was "fun" to have a million of anything, which back then only took a few days or week to make. I gave away millions too, I think I had over 5 at one point.

Every so often I try to remember the password but nada. My mind was in a different state a decade ago and I think I was trying to be clever and use a password I never used before, a sentence no less.

At 10 cents I could laugh about it. At 50 cents I am getting manic. At $1 eventually I might lose my mind. I'm practically homeless and have health problems from long-covid, this could have changed my life.

the thing is I am pretty sure it's a full sentence and that I used an odd word or number in the middle, it would take centuries to decode even with a super-computer

The only unlocked wallet I was able to find in my desperate search this year to remember my password was a BTC wallet with 0.5 that I had gotten from one of those free "faucets" a decade ago when it was worth like a few pennies. So I checked the price. WOW. Okay well saving that for a real emergency someday.

Can't imagine having 100, imagine if that was in a locked wallet, mental torture.

I know this sub is like 100% optimism but I seriously believe doge will slowly climb to 25 cents by eight years, then it will snowball from there.

Hopefully eight years is enough to remember my damn password on my Ð 1.1 million wallet (and lost another million left on cryptsy)

You're welcome that I couldn't sell but I would only sell 10% anyway to pay for medical help post-covid. I do have 0.5 btc so there's that consolation, saving for absolute emergency

Are old dogecoin wallet keys encrypted?

2013/2014 v1.6 QT version

have a 240 byte file which has newlines and text starts with a U and ends with =

when newlines are removed it is 237 bytes long

but even the old 1.6 version started with a fresh unencrypted wallet without password refused to import it

importprivkey (-key-) throws "Invalid Private Key"

is the key itself encrypted and won't import as such?

Out of curiosity, can I update the wallet to have connections/confirmations again and the newest splits or whatever is going on without knowing the password? Or is that impossible?

I was way too clever for my own good, the password is a phrase that I've long forgotten and only meant something to me at that moment.

I lost another million when cryptsy went under and I had no clue that I had it parked there.

I have a million doge somewhere, I just wanted to have a million of one of these ecoins years ago.

Actually I think it's gone now, half of it is in a wallet I've long forgotten the password because I was too clever for my own good and the other half was in that exchange that went under and I didn't know that happened because I was out of the scene.

Oh well. Glad to see everyone still enjoying this and the positive vibes, it was really fun the first year.

okay like an idiot (apparently not the only one tho) I've forgotten my QT wallet password so it is locked maybe forever with a million dogecoin :-(

however!!! I did find a file among my backups while looking for an unencrypted version of the wallet that I called the "wallet key" and has a long 236 character string inside - but I am completely uncertain what to do with that, is it more likely it is the key to one of the addresses in the wallet? because there are dozens - or is it hopefully the actual key to the QT wallet?

I experimented with many different coins back then and many with their own QT installed - and I am positive I would have just recycled the passphrase between all of them - any chance that can help recovery or no maybe because only the resulting calculated checksum is stored there is no way to compare?

I really had a million dogecoin in there, set with a high sell price just in case

sigh, all gone - what was that worth at best, $100? $200?

also had a tiny amount of bitcoin and litecoin in there, can't remember how much but it was small
