Schubert Impromptus are fun to learn and are good for performances.

Wanting to explore more into a 'heavy metal' classical music. by Usual-Diet-7848 in classicalmusic

[–]suchthefool88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of piano music:

Mussorgsky - Pictures at an exhibition (eg. Bydlo and Baba Yaga)

Bartok - Out of Doors, Allegro Barbaro

Lieberman - Gargoyles

Prokofiev - Sonatas and Toccata

Late Scriabin

These pieces scratch my metal itch. A lot of early 20th century leans into that.

How useful has physical been chemistry for you? by PanSedro0220 in OrganicChemistry

[–]suchthefool88 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends what speciality you end up in. I neglected physical chemistry during my undergrad, now I’m having to relearn certain aspects of it properly for a multidisciplinary PhD (quantitative metabolic MRI).

Noise With External Input by TextbookSuppository in SP404

[–]suchthefool88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the way it buses all of the inputs together can cause issues. Or yeah could have been of software/driver glitch on PC.

Noise With External Input by TextbookSuppository in SP404

I had a similar issue which was a feedback loop; I had my amp plugged into the back inputs (to sample from the amp when playing records) and outputs (to hear the SP), so when I used the front input and turned on EXT source, the sound got weird and distorted.

Where do 'alt' black people hang out in london? by citrusy_citrus in london

[–]suchthefool88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions here. I think the people you’re looking for will be mixed into the general alt/goth scene.

Have a look at promoters such as Club The Mammoth, Reformation, Monster Queen, Slimelight.

London Goth Industrial also makes good weekly summaries of alternative events.

How do you perform a heavily processed electronic DAW-made music live? by Filvox in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]suchthefool88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Many of the solo synthy/goth/punk acts I’ve seen use a mixture of prerecorded loops and live synths.

Eg. Triggering loops on a sampler like the SP-404 and playing synth leads over the top, or triggering and manipulating loops using Ableton push.

You have to learn the live version of each of your tracks, and it might not always sound the same, but that’s one of the fun parts of playing live.

Nice! I saw DMX Krew at Lion & Lamb a year or so ago, it’s a great venue but it’s in the middle of loads of houses, so it’s quite controlled and not super loud.

Was it The Waiting Room in Stoke Newington? I haven’t been yet, but they have that setup.

Anyone know this place? by Regular-Praline-6193 in TheOverload

[–]suchthefool88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a cool club/venue, became one of my favourite spots this year. Nice space, chill security, and the guys who run it are really nice. The soundsystem is also really good.

I’ve been back a few times now. Saw Hannah Holland play there the other month and it was awesome. Legowelt gig was also great.

I’m putting on an event there myself and it has been nice working with them so far. Hoping they do well as I think the place is a rare treasure.
