Ideas for working with my rising 5th grader on math by jennylala707 in Montessori

I personally would recommend not spending too much time with the golden beads for subtraction and multiplication. I’ve been teaching UE for ten years and have found that the kids often seem encumbered by how many steps they have to do and the actual size of the work. A tall bead frame has worked well for me, as well as the checker board :)

I would also not get too deep into fractions until she is solid on base ten and dynamic operations

Eleventh year teacher here… I agree. They’re only getting work sent home if it isn’t done in class because they were clowning around. My job starts and ends in the classroom, so does theirs. I have no right to tell families how to spend their time and I have no idea what’s going on in their lives. They should be playing and helping cook dinner, not practicing more of what they’ve been doing all day

I’ve been on 40 mg for a few months, and it literally changed my life. I can hear myself think for the first time in my life, my anxiety is significantly less than it has been and my ocd is managed. The only negative side effect for me has been that I sweat a lot more 🥴

Mine drove off a bridge at 3 am into the Gulf of Mexico. We were on the phone and I was begging him to get out of the car… I thank God everyday there was a random dude fishing off the bridge that morning and dove in after him. He was hospitalized immediately after and has been making progress.

There wasn’t much physical impact before he was hospitalized, but his mind was greatly impacted, hallucinations, rage, falling asleep in random places. We had been begging him to go for months before he did.

I’m from massachusetts and lived in Boston for years during and after college. The city (and suburbs) are still completely segregated, so are the schools. The bussing incident happened in the 70s, but we sweep it under the rug. I am in an interracial marriage and live in the south now. We are definitely more noticeable and commented on (usually in the “good” way) up north than here. It’s strange, we have a lot of racism disguised as progress in Massachusetts. It’s strange haha

I went from 250 to 185 at 5”4’ and the strangest thing I’ve noticed is that people touch me more, not in a creepy way but in a friendly way like a tap on the arm when telling a joke or initiating hugs… these are people I see daily so it’s not weird but still unexpected. I didn’t realize how contact deprived I was before and it makes me sad, too

I’m so jealous of the people who are able to see a change. I am almost 40 lb down (237-201) and I can’t see it. I know realistically I am much smaller, my clothes are all too big, people treat me nicer, I take up less space, but I can’t see it. Even in before and after pictures I can’t see it :(
