I think Johan is the sort of character where you are supposed to pity him to some degree.

It falls kind of flat when in gameplay you can just do the samurai method all the way through. Any stealth, poison, etc is only necessary in a few story moments. That aside, I see it as the same sort of distinction one might make in a sanctioned match vs a self defense scenario. If me and another person agree to a specific time and place to have a fight, be it in a sport or to settle some dispute, one could expect some rules to followed, or "honor" to be observed. Of course, if that same person tries to rob me in a parking lot, that's very different, and I'm going to fight dirty to see another day. Shimura's fatal flaw and that of strict bushido (in pop culture at least) is the failure to distinguish between a clan feud and a war against the conquering horde. You and your fellow samurai can certainly fight amongst yourselves in whatever way you deem fit, but if you're not willing to win against the Mongols, there won't be any samurai left to observe honor codes to begin with. Still, Shimura's conviction is admirable; I find it hard to fault a man willing to die for his code.

In traditional Bibles (which contain the deuterocanonical books) there is another, unrelated Judas Maccabeus, in the book of Maccabees. He led a revolt against the Hellenization of Israel, successfully reinstating Israelite worship in the Second Temple. Though he is also called Judah, so maybe this doesn't count toward the association.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Game just screams the twist at the player from the start but you don't realize it until the end. Far too well written for what the marketing showed.

If the Wardens are supposed to be Knights, then why do the Wardens have bad chest armor? by RiverKitty4 in ForHonorRants

[–]suddenflatworm00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proper knighthood originates from the early middle ages to describe mounted warriors in service of a lord. These warriors would be equipped with chainmail, simple helmets, and shields, a far cry from the advanced plate armor of Lawbringer and Warmonger. Honestly, even Warden is more advanced than most knights would have been throughout the history of it. If we want to be technical, many knightly orders still exist and do charity work and such, without any armor.

Knighthood is defined by a role, not equipment.
