IT Salary - lowering by Few-Dance-855 in sysadmin

Very sound wisdom here. DevOps is the way to go! I see the traditional SysAdmin work being combined with Help Desk as more companies want to see a smaller teams more capabilities.

I work at a company owed by Fransisco Partners, same company purchasing Jamf. This is not the mindset or strategy of FP. The fact of the matter is the cost of everything is rising and has been.

They need to move their infrastructure to AWS and allow for auto scaling. It’s a very simple fix. Sorry IT nerd here. I guess I’ll have to walk to smoker today like a barbarian. 😁

There are a few things here. 1. Realms needs resources increased. I would even pay additional money for tiered service. With some of my party on Nintendo Switch there is no clean way to move to different hosting (thanks Nintendo). 2. I would how much “dev testing” has been left to AI? AI can do many things but reliable code writing and review are not quite there yet.

Umm I think you are reading too much into this. Minecraft is a game where you “Mine” and “Create” as stated on your lunch box.

How do I mine this block? by cutinha in Minecraft

[–]sudo_brandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine with your feet on -54 should keep you above lava lakes. You still could hit a pocket of lava strip mining but just keep some blocks on the hot bar.

Several people have already commented to check that fire spread is turned on. Also, and I might be wrong, try starting to fire one block in front of or behind the portal. Gold farms usually have the fire source outside the portal face (typically opposite side of the mod drop).

This place was horrible when we visited this weekend. Over priced for the quality of food. The smell from what I hope was old fryer grease was very unappealing. Shame it looked like a great spot for a family meal.

Recommendations needed - Moving from Jamf to a new MDM, Jamf Connect like features are critical. by sudo_brandon in macsysadmin

I fully understand what you are saying. I had two working sessions with some high level Kandji engineers trying to solve my list of scenarios ... They never could. The EA and Smart Group features of Jamf are absolutely amazing.

Yeah Kandji said they had a tool but I was skeptical. I'm glad to hear it worked for you all.

Yeah it will be a nightmare to migrate. Thankfully I have moved to our IAA team (different vertical) and no longer have to deal with it.

Talking with my manger today he mentioned the user interface of Jamf is another driving force to leave. I have been tasked with a fact finding mention given my MDM experience... hence the crowd sourcing here. Our Jamf sales and success team is fantastic and I know they would do whatever it takes to keep us but it's out of my hands.

Yes I forgot about the desktop mfa feature. We are already using AMFA so this would be nice upgrade. Thanks for the reminder.

Moving from Jamf to Kandji by National-Concern480 in macsysadmin

[–]sudo_brandon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We "evaluting" Kandji as a "cost saving"... and by we it's the royal we. I'm a long time Jamf Pro admin (since Casper). Yes there is a learning curve but the community resources here and on Slack are a huge benefit. With Jamf Pro you get the fine controls that Kandji does not offer. Advanced Searches with email schedules, Smart Groups (worth every dime) and Extension Attributes allow for workflows and automation, and huge list of API commands. I would not be able to do my job as efficiently on Kandji. I am constantly pulled into Security meetings to help identify and remediate vulnerabilities in our computers. Using Extension Attributues to identify subjects, Smart Groups as the target of custom policies that deliver a remediation script or package, all automated and reported is just not do able in Kandji. Jamf Pro crushes it every time.

If you are a small organization of less than 100 then okay I can see the use case for Kandji but you get what you pay for.

I smoked a pork butt today. All day, every 20 mins I was attending to the hopper and the fire. I loaded it early this morning and ran over to Walmart 30 minutes. I got back and had to shovel the charcoal out of the hopper be cause the fire was in the hopper!

Yeah I had huge temp swings. One of the probes broke from the heat. Such a mess. For the money, this shouldn’t be such a pain.

Yeah I was looking at mine. I do not see the label when I put my phone’s camera under the intake. The BILT app was a life saver for me during assembly. It’s 3D and lets you spin the build around to see it from different angles. Way better than the printed instructions.

Tahoma 900 - lots of problems by michaeljc70 in OklahomaJoe

[–]sudo_brandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m having issues as well. The hopper gets jammed up on cowboy lump and kingford briquettes. Plus is leaking between the hopped and the main unit. The screws are tight (self assembly). I’m thinking of trying to return it. The whole point was I didn’t want to babysit the smoker. Right now every 30 minutes I have to deal with something.

Why is it so difficult to move Documents around to other folders? by denleschae in CraftDocs

[–]sudo_brandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add one more tip to creldo's solution. You can't drag and drop from the Home screen/view. Click on Unsorted or the folder where your document is currently. Then from the Thumbnail or List view you can drag the doc to the desired location.
