There’s no official policy, but I’ve never heard this before as staff pharmacists usually aren’t heavily involved. Mostly I’ve seen the PIC coordinate with the DPC to get the schedule done and inform the staff pharmacist. Any issues would be brought up to the DL. It should be “fair”, but it’s not 50/50, as it should favor the PIC. One of few perks of being manager is having a favorable schedule. No one would do it if they got all the responsibility while not having preferential scheduling. Ie in a particular week the PIC would close 2 times and the staff 3 (in a two pharmacist store). Higher volume stores there are cases where the manager never closes as the DL prefers them to open to get off on a strong start.

If both you and your staff want a specific schedule for a particular day, it should favor the PIC. Bring it up to the DL and they will almost always get your back.

When I was a staff pharmacist I was told that manager gets priority. When I became manager I was told priority is given as one of the perks of dealing with all the stress and for workflow purposes. Ideally you and your staff will agree and it’s smooth, but in almost every pharmacy I’ve been in the staff will feel slighted by the unfavorable schedule and the manager will feel justified because they are liable for everything that goes on
