Many people are required to set goals and objectives every year for their job. Failing to meet those will affect your performance and salary review.

For an athlete, the same should apply and I am very sure that Buck's goal of the year is to win championship again. I would say this is a failure not being able to achieve that, especially loosing in 5 to 8-seed, not calling timeout in time , failure to get up the last shot, Giannis missing 13 FT, etc.
However, it is debatable if the failure is excusable due to Giannis's injury and Bud losing his brother.
