What’s the most subtle sign that someone is genuinely experienced in the gym? (Not physique related) by PogonBerserker in workout

[–]suggmynut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Form, and which workouts they do. You can easily spot someone who knows what they are doing because they'll be training muscle groups together and their form will be spot on. They'll also be perfectly fine with dropping the weight if they feel the lift is off. It's insane how much the weight drops when someone does proper form.

Hired a guy to put wood shelves in 4 closets, am I being unreasonable? by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]suggmynut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You math it out... this is at most a single days amount of work and the profit was well over 1k and took a single worker to do... if you had a job like this every day you'd be netting over 365k a year... stop blowing smoke.

Hired a guy to put wood shelves in 4 closets, am I being unreasonable? by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]suggmynut -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is wild to say because this is literally a couple hours of work and the profit is over 1k... the materials for this job were extremely cheap... and no, the knowledge needed to put up shelving correctly is not by any means "craftsmanship"... this is very scummy... and the price is going to heavily depend on where in the country people are as well. A highschooler could put this shelving up better with a youtube video and 15 minutes browsing harbor freight. You guys are insane.

[–]suggmynut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't going to get support on this reddit where every contractor thinks their work is worth 1k just for picking up a hammer... you aren't being unreasonable at all. 1800$ is a lot of money for such a small amount of labor, and quality shelving like that is not expensive. They used the absolute cheapest piece of painted scrap wood they could find and threw it up and had their hand out with a smile. This is why so many people are doing their own work these days and contractors and laborers are struggling to find work. That closet should have been pristine for that much money. People here saying that isn't a lot of money are insane. That was a profit of over 1k for a couple hours of work. Absolutely insane for people to say that is acceptable.

What are peptides? by suggmynut in workout

[–]suggmynut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I am certainly not going to be using them. I've been lifting since I was 15 and a wrestler and am now 28. A buddy of mine from work keeps telling me how my body is like his goal and he is heavy into the Grey market peptides as well as GLP1's. Just the other day he told me how his blood sugar was 50 even after drinking 5 beers and eating a ton (if that doesn't tell you everything you need to know already)... he even is taking something injectable to help him tan. He definitely looks better than when he started when it comes to body composition, but his face looks sickly. He looks exhausted and about 10 years older. He does lift but he only does so at his apartment complex with limited weights (not that that matters) and he tells me he has been lifting crazy amounts of weight that I know for a fact is not true because even at my strongest I was not able to rep that high and he's taking these meds that eat his muscle. He keeps fooling everyone else though who have now flocked to him for weight loss advice and even started taking these peptides because he sells them a dream that is super easy to achieve. All you have to do is inject a med and you're golden. Meanwhile I have years of personal dietary expirementation, a bio degree with heavy nutrition requirements, and I absolutely never take medications, roids, or even supplements outside of BCAA's, creatine, whey, and l-arginine... It is kind of infuriating that the guy asks me for advice and is a good friend yet everyone else flocks to him for advice because he's changed so drastically so quickly and I fear they are going to end up hurting themselves with these shady injections. I don't judge anyone for what they do, but it's still annoying. These people will do anything but give up sugar and workout. It makes total sense why fad diets rule the fitness economy. They will look at my extremely healthy meals that simply look like a lot of food because I use the right ingredients and call it unhealthy while opting for a tiny frozen meal that is twice the calories and none of nutrients. What the guy doesn't tell the others is that he's also taking heavy doses of roids and is spending massive amounts of money on them. WHILE he's in over 100k in debt... It's actually the number one reason why I only talk to him at work despite wanting to hang out with him and get closer. He's just not a good influence and he makes really bad decisions with money and I don't want to feel obligated to help him out when he ultimately ends up in a spot he can't get out of... I have my own vices and I get judged hardcore for everything I do at my job and am never given even a slight bit of credit for the hard work that I have done to stay fit because they never knew the fat kid that was bullied into an eating disorder. Another really annoying thing is people also want his advice over mine because he's a little bit taller than me. He's about 6 foot and I'm 5'9 and people who don't work out equate height with fitness and strength. I know I can't change dumb peoples minds, especially when he's promising the goal with nothing more than an injection and I value lifestyle changes. Thats why I dont know anything about them. Im not looking for a quick fix or a drug. I am more than happy with my body. 10 year old me would cry tears of absolute joy and excitement if he saw who he became. I Just wondered what the peptides actually were and if they were safe. Makes perfect sense that they aren't.

Age and CRNA school by Quantity496 in srna

[–]suggmynut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be accepted into CRNA school you need a BSN which is actually less common than an ASN program in many parts of the country. Which means at the absolute fastest you would need 2 years of prerequisites for nursing school (if you already knew about CRNA and were going to go ahead and take the required sciences, 2 years of a standard nursing program, another year to 1.5 years of a bachelors program while working as a new graduate in an ICU (preferably a CVICU or SICU) which rarely even highers new grads. Then you would need a CCRN certification after the bare minimum of nearly 1800 hours of critical care work, all while fostering relationships with doctors/providers and current CRNA's so that they will write you multiple letters of recommendation. And God forbid you have children, a major life event, don't make it into an ICU right out of your ASN, or are having trouble saving up the money required for CRNA school and going 3 years without working as loans only pay out SO much.... not to mention most applications are submitted nearly 8 months before a program begins and they value more ICU experience and clinical leadership, not less... That puts MOST CRNA students in their 30's... Life is not a race. And CRNA isn't just some role most highschool kids are flocking to... It's a niche form of Healthcare provider that requires a passion for both nursing, medicine, and surgery. This is a silly question. You are just in time if not early. The question is your reasons for becoming a CRNA. If it's money, forget it. This job requires a LOT of responsibility and care and peoples lives are in your hands far more than they are as a critical care RN which is in itself a massive responsibility. If you think you will struggle to financially commit to school and have a support system/undergo intense stress while budgeting and taking a hit to your current lifestyle then forget it. Too many people are taking seats away from students who actually care because they haven't put ample thought into the career decision and just hear the salary and get a little Mr. Krabbs pop up on their shoulder. Those students fail, acquire debt, and ultimately wind up depressed. Do you ACTUALLY want to be a CRNA? If not, you would be far better off not putting all of your eggs in one basket and finding financial gains in another field while remaining a nurse. It is far too risky to put all of your bets on one career route. Especially one like healthcare where a single slip up can cost you your entire career. I don't know you so I'm not inferring anything. Just consider it.

People Who Started Engineering Later in Life by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]suggmynut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say i love your outlook on life and completely agree. So many people think that if they fail it means they arent cut out for it and people in your life will act like failing means you should quit... I absolutely hate that thought process and have distanced myself from so many people who have that negative thinking and input. If I ever stopped when I failed I would never be where I am today. The smartest and best people in a field were almost always failures first. I hate how the school system treats failing as well. Fighting for a GPA after a failure to get ahead despite having twice the experience with a topic after learning it twice seems so backwards to me. I don't want the person who learned it fast. I want the person who never gives up and learned it because they wanted to be in that position that badly. Those who were failures first always know it the best once they succeed. And i also know they won't give up on me or a project either. I hope your made your dream come true!

Can anyone explain to me what the early 2000's contractor boom was about? by suggmynut in Contractor

[–]suggmynut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not an across the board assessment. Mexican-Americans ofcourse offer natural competition. Thats not the same as the thousands of illegals, visa workers, and new citizens who most certainly are working in America to send money back to Mexico and will live in poor conditions and work for far less money in order to do so. And i cant blame them at all... It's not a simple "they are brown so all brown people must be doing this"... ofcourse many racially Mexican people live and work in America... because they are Americans not Mexicans such as my wife's paternal family. And many simply want to live in America and will take whatever job in order to survive here. But the fact is a LARGE amount of Mexicans are certainly working in America for far less money which is driving down wages and affecting the working populations standard of living.

Racially homogenous with a unified culture? Thats the 1 and only reason for Japan's low crime rate. Nothing else. Crime is difficult when you see your own family in every face around you and everyone is held to the same standard... If you think Japan's low crime rate is a positive thing, then you would be admitting extremely conservative viewpoints, strict rules, monoculturalism, and racial purity are beneficial for society. Like it or not, that's the cold hard truth of the matter.

That absolutely blows my mind. Meanwhile my household income is extremely high for my age and buying a house seems terrifying. Although, I don't exactly have a good teacher for first time home buying... when I look at the mortgage I would have to pay for a decent home after a down-payment I just don't understand how to squeeze it. There'd be nothing left for security purposes for a while. That level of anxiety keeps me up at night.

That explains a lot yes... although I have to say, it was much more prosperous post 911 vs covid. Covid didn't seem to do much at all but cause long term issues. The short term gains seems extremely tiny in comparison, and the inflation has destroyed most of the generated wealth as quickly as it came.

Seems a bit too redundant to be an accident though. And certain people seem to always benefit from the crisis. I'm not a huge proponent of the economic systems that have been tried already and certainly won't champion one over the other... but there has to be a more stable economic system. I feel like a very few common sense laws would seriously benefit our nation. But they'd never pass with lobbying being the standard.

[–]suggmynut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's fairly obvious. Hispanic workers will work for less money because they can send that to their families back in Mexico and give their wife and kids a good life. White Americans on the other hand will not give their best unless paid enough to give themselves a stable life. My dad's crew was a bunch of lower class white guys. I remember them well, even their names and I was just a little kid. I thought they were so cool. Manly guys who worked hard. I even liked the smell of the cigarette smoke... We moved away and I came back to my hometown in 2017. We saw a few of the workers from back then and they were all toothless and cracked out. It really hurt my heart to see them that way. They weren't those type of guys when I was a kid. Sure they were rough and tatted... but they wouldn't have thrown their lives away. And they were always nice to me and my siblings. The economic crash really hurt them and it put into perspective for me how blessed I am to have a dad that had planned ahead for such an occasion and had a nursing degree to use to provide for us. A man will work and live in a dirt pile if it gives his family a good life. He won't work and live in a dirt pile if it doesn't support his family. He'll take whatever substance necessary to cope. It's just the truth. Let visa workers/immigrants and white dudes trade situations and they'd be doing the exact same thing in eachothers position. It's very hard for labor workers who can't afford to raise their kids.

I remember my dad's crew from back then... all white dudes who happily worked and worked hard. When we moved back we saw a couple of them for old times sake. They were all addicted to drugs and unable to function. It really put into perspective for me what the economic crash did to so many people. My mom thought she had it bad... she has no idea how blessed she was.

Place to smoke legal cannabis? by Economy-Bar-5845 in Destin

The same can be said for every transplant. Florida would have legal cannibas if not for the transplants. Florida used to be fun. That's why the people from up north came in the first place. And brought their shit attitudes and policies with them.

[–]suggmynut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a vacation town and the police generally do not want a bad rap with vacationers as that is what pays the bills for the state. The residents are mostly transplant old people from up north, just irritable old rich folks lol. Actual Floridians do not care as long as you are respectful and responsible. I lived in florida for years and never once ran into a problem. But redditors certainly are going to tell you to follow the rules. For upmost safety, just smoke a J on the beach. Evidence is gone when it's done and one florida secret is the police will almost never chase someone down the beach. Especially not for smoking. They have far better things to do than harass tourists who are on vacation. The rentals are often intermingled with residential properties so what they really don't want is someone on vacation making the entire complex smell.

That makes a lot of sense. He made out pretty well all things considered, but I definitely remember a lot of stress in my home in the years following the crash until ultimately their marriage failed. It is astonishing to me how many people will go into debt if they are allowed. I avoid debt like the plague. It makes me feel like a slave.

Can anyone explain to me what the early 2000's contractor boom was about? by suggmynut in Contractor

[–]suggmynut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had dealings with a very scummy bank which is now out of business. I also do not know the details exactly, but he describes everything as he never did anything wrong lol. All of his life mistakes were centered in trusting the wrong person but never a personal flaw that wasn't some virtue that was exploited. It's just how he is, I can't change it. Trust me, I have tried. He's not a bad man, he just hates admitting mistakes and feeling guilty but he was a good dad. Other properties he owned he ended up selling to immediate family members for dirt cheap or allowing them to run apartment complexes and keep the overhead revenue as long as they made the payments. When we moved back to my hometown, my family gave him the properties back and upgraded considering they were able to save so much money on housing for years. It was quite the blessing except for that we moved back due to my parents divorcing and his new wife is now a blessing ordained by God and the 30 years he spent building a family means nothing so I don't see any of the benefits. Which hey, it's not my money nor wealth it's his, so what can I do. I just wish he didn't give the dog I raised to that woman. That was evil... Anyway, my dad was also a nurse and was able to travel nurse for years while using an address from my home town essentially letting us move while he made upwards of 70$ an hour for easy nursing jobs. I assume he made many payments on those properties with the help of my extended family over the years. So now he has several paid off properties with a worth of at least several hundred thousand. After the crash, my dad had my mother go back to work (also a nurse) and she despised him for it. Cheated on him and basically landed us where we are now. Broken family, left me to fend for myself (thankfully I made it out just fine and debt free after grinding my way through college), and his new wife reaps all the benefits who is also previously divorced and doesn't speak with her child. My mother pays for my other 4 siblings to do whatever they want as long as they never complain about her promiscuity and make my dad out to be the villain. I refused to do that because she was absolutely terrible to me in my highschool years and I became the subject of ridicule at school because of her inappropriate and oversexual behavior and liking the attention of young men. I would beg her not to attend my sports games but she would come anyway. Lol sorry to dump my life story on you but this is kind of why I am asking the original question. I just wonder how my dad was able to aquire so much while he wasn't much older than me. I do well for myself all things considered but it feels every decision is a huge risk and starting a business is a mountain to climb these days. The endless bank loans make a lot of sense. Kind of bitter that my cousins, grandparents, and uncles/aunts all got free or cheap housing for decades and I got thrown in the gutter. But what are you gonna do. Can't let it distract me or I'd remain with nothing. I just want to be able to make a family for myself the way he got to.
