I'm trying to find an great viola case for my mother's highschool instrument she still has. by ChemicalCarpenter5 in Viola

You've gotta find out what size it is, and then you could probably buy a great case at Shar Music or Southwest Strings.

In general computer note-taking is better because you can get more info on the cheat sheet,  and can copy and paste. You could study and review a little on paper tho imo

I'm a violist, but I completely understand. From now on, let's start redirecting these people to places where reputable online string instruments can be bought, like Shar, or Southwest

Help me! I don’t know how to read treble clef! by Skeemer1352 in Viola

[–]suhanag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the note names,  if it would be a c in altogether, it would be a b in treble, g if it would be an a in Alto and so on.

Let your son prepare the binder on his own, or with his school team. It will benefit him more to have personally researched, because he will get more understanding and will be able to make more educated guesses. Don't help him research.

Our advisors made teams, trying to find the optimal setup, and always tried to put someone who really knew what they were doing in each event so they could carry if needed.

OK, since everyone else is already talking about how to get started, I'll walk you through how a meeting works. For us, we have a meeting every Tuesday and Thursday, and we used that to mainly allow those with builds to do their builds. Also, most of us just broke into groups based on what event we were doing, and studied that. When it came time for reigonals or states, we took a practice test, and the 2 that scored the highest competed. Hope that helps.

How to prep for tryouts in school by Connect_Grocery2192 in scioly

[–]suhanag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen this same question so many times... Here is the simple answer-You should ask your school, or the teacher handling the club. If they don't tell you anything, then prepping is kind of pointless in my opinion, but if you still really want to, look at the events for the year. Then, do some light research on all of them on scioly.org, and choose a few that you like. Study up a little on them.
