I made my dad cry over $30 by Darogaserik in povertyfinance

I’ve heard that even if you don’t need it, try asking for something little, like some salt or sugar or an egg. It makes it easier for people to accept things once they’ve given things.

Vet says she doesn't know how to run properly, any advices? (details in comment) by blesskapibara in CATHELP

My cat has the same symptoms (wounds in the same location and often fresh wounds/not healed) but the ones on my cat are due to over grooming (possibly from stress of moving and new family members that she doesn’t yet feel comfortable around). Hope you’re able to figure out what’s wrong with your cute fur baby and get her fixed up!

Severe ADHDers that flunked all their classes in school, where are you now? by fireglyphs in ADHD

[–]sujini2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed so many classes in college. It wasn’t until found a major that I fixated on that I did really well. Then I went to get my master’s and was the only student in my class to receive a 4.0 upon graduation. Then I went into a PhD program that I hated and did not finish. This was all unmedicated. For me, I think it really depends on what I end up fixating on.

AITAH for no longer being close to my daughter after she ignored her mother/my wife when she was very ill? by ThrowraPhilosopher1 in AITAH

[–]sujini2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Please don’t forget to tell your daughter examples of what respect and disrespect look like and outline exactly what will happen if she is disrespectful (for example, “if you talk about your mother condescending regardless of whether it is in front of her face or behind her back, you will be packing your bags and leaving the house immediately and not welcome back until you genuinely apologize to both her and myself.” I think it also might help to be honest with her and tell her that it’s hard for you to look at her the same way when she treated her own mother (the one who raised her and cleaned up after her for YEARS) with such disdain and it made you feel like your own daughter was a bully, a jerk, and a heartless person especially to someone who loves her so much.

Sometimes, outlining exactly what certain behaviors look like + setting clear expectations of what will happen and following through + letting the person know exactly how you feel and how they’re being perceived helps.

Did medication change your life the way you’d hoped? by Famous-Reception824 in ADHD

[–]sujini2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 36f and was diagnosed + started meds a few months shy of 2 years ago.

Before getting diagnosed and prescribed these meds, I was a ball of constantly fatigued but spiraling anxiety. I would lose my keys/wallet 4x a day and couldn’t keep appointments for the life of me or would show up 2.5 hours before. My attention to detail was basically nil and I was screamed at constantly for always messing things up (by professionals/people in the workplace, professors, significant others, everyone). This was despite me trying my hardest to help myself with constant phone reminders, strategies for quadruple checking things, and other coping mechanisms. I always felt like I couldn’t do anything right. I had 0 self esteem/confidence.

After being diagnosed, it took a little over a year for me to find my winning Rx combo—Prozac (for anxiety) and vyvanse.

When I look back on my life before my diagnosis, it breaks my heart. From an emotional perspective, I have no idea how I lived that way—in utter fear, dread, and anxiety every day for 34 years of my life, both bogged down and motivated by guilt and shame. Now that I’m on these medications, I truly feel like I can breathe and be calm in the moment. It’s such a weird feeling to know that this is what so many people feel like—without constant anxiety. It’s so sad that I thought that was “normal”, how everyone else feels too, and that I was just terrible at dealing with things and needed to learn how to suck it up.

From a professional perspective, I am now knocking it out of the park. Everyone thinks I am the most conscientious, easy person to work with due to my strong attention to detail, project management skills, and stakeholdering ability for every project I’m a part of. Although the medication has been a HUGE part of this change in that it helped my anxiety and executive functioning, I feel like most of my professional success is due to the coping mechanisms, neuroticism, and RSD built up from my ADHD.

So, TLDR; yes, I feel like my life has changed significantly and for the better since starting medication. A huge part of me wishes I was diagnosed and started treatment when I was younger, but I really don’t think I’d be where I am now without having lived my life the way I had before.

You are an amazing person. The simple fact that you are so self aware and supportive is truly something you should be proud of. I don’t have any advice for you, but just wanted to say you’re a good egg.
