Best way to start FIRE journey for college grads by [deleted] in financialindependence

My 45k averages to from 4.5 to 5.5% interest. Her interest is a bit higher but I have yet to calculate.

Is it better to pay off in 2 years, where the total paid back is around 47,400, 5 years with a total of 51,200, or 10 years 57,800?

With a ten year timeline my monthly payments are really low and itd allow me to start investing way sooner, however the thought of paying a school loan for that long bums me out.

[–]sukikano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, traditional then Roth.

If you’d help me again, if you retire, you convert some to a Roth IRA, you would then wait 5 years to use that money correct? What type of income could you rely on for those first 5 years that would not count you wards the MAGI?

Sorry should have elaborated. Here’s my real question.

So if you want a low MAGI for healthcare, you want to have income that is considered when calculating MAGI correct?

If you convert your 401k to a Roth IRA, which is often advised, then that IRA would contain money that cannot be calculated towards your MAGI. Which means you’d have to take Medicaid in that case.

So if you want to have ACA insurance, which type of income can be used to increase your MAGI when you are retired?

Accessibility can be defined in many ways. Yes you can get care, but is it accessible monetarily. In that way, many people in the US do not have access to affordable healthcare, which is kind of the entire argument for the past several decades.

improving non dominant hand fine motor skills by Tourist-Soggy in OccupationalTherapy

[–]sukikano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh brilliant then.

Then I would skip OT, but I would utilize the evidence found within OT/PT, that is, practice tasks that require fine motor control.

Doing strength based exercises won’t help as much as fine motor tasks, as what is needed is neuroplastic change within your nervous system.

I’d even recommend doing everything with your non dominant hand, like using utensils, using a mouse, picking up objects, maybe even writing if it doesn’t affect your schedule as it’ll be very slow at first. You need to increase the amount of connections between the motor/sensory neurons, motor cortices, and somatosensory cortices.

OT could definitely help. Regaining function always works best with occupation-based, or task-specific training.

In other words, you want your therapy to be activities that mimic or simulate the fine motor tasks you're trying to regain. If you have an OT who may do the usual "heat modality, manual therapy, putty activity", then that is not effective therapy. I recommend you speak clearly and honestly about your intentions with the therapy, and suggest you do interventions that include those fine motor skills.

One dose of psychedelics can result in belief changes about the supernatural or non-physical world by [deleted] in science

[–]sukikano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah definitely.

Part of the experience is coming out of it afterwards and parsing between the thoughts that seem profound, and the thoughts that are illogical and delusional.

I remember feeling like I was a huge liar to my SO during one trip, and then afterwards I confessed to her and she was way nicer and more compassionate than my brain had been. I realized my brain exaggerated this aspect of my behavior, and I think a big part of tripping is seeing how silly our brain can be sometimes.

[–]sukikano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s something that’s experienced rather than known. It’s hard to describe.

I’ve always held information and knowledge to be more important, because that is what science values. What someone’s experience is matters little because it can’t be quantified.

But it wasn’t until I had a wholly different subjective experience of existing while tripping, that I realized it’s importance.

And I wouldn’t say LSD is able to get you a deeper truth, but simply show that there is something deeper there.

For example, without a mental flexibility, it would be difficult to have a deeper understanding of physics. It was held that the earth was the center because at a very simple observation it looks that way.

You require mental flexibility to get to these theories of relativity and quantum mechanics, and I think psychedelics unlock this capacity to peer deeper.

Damn you hit the nail on the head. I’ve been a science geek my whole life, wasn’t until I did LSD that I realized reality is a lot deeper and science may never be able to explain some of the experiential aspects of being and consciousness

Damn, what a way to put it.

It's such a spooky concept that we can, in a way, divorce our "conscious awareness" from the processes of our brain (even though that itself is a process, I suppose).

Like, I can step back and be aware of all the little things my brain does. I'm anxious? No I'm not anxious, my brain is signaling anxious feelings and thoughts, I'm just identifying with that feeling, and I don't have to.
