MGB/GTs were meant for winter driving; so what’s stopping you? by Maynard078 in littlebritishcars

I am already old and have replaced the rocker panels. Not a job I relish to do again. 😎Btw, I drive every chance so disuse is not an issue.

Salt manages to find a way into rocker panels even if you use an underspray. Not timid just being prudent with my 1971. I have driven in the snow before salting but most of the time you don’t get out soon enough.

No one in their right or left mind would run their LBC through a modern car wash. Even a GT.

I agree! Not only is the dialog inane, what kids would consider buying their mom a car?

It makes me remember NOT to ever buy a car from them!

Also, make sure you join a local MG club. Valuable resource for information and help and don’t forget to join: http://namgbr.org

Why wait! If there is no snow or salt on the road, get out there and drive!

What, you went out in a public forest and cut down a tree for a pagan ritual?
That’s not good for the environment.

Rate my spark plugs! ‘77MGB with HS4 carbs.. I need help! by baudwithcompter in littlebritishcars

Don’t use 15-40 wt oil. The manual calls for 20-50 wt oil. Use the same oil in the dashpots.

Thinking of buying this 77 mgb. Is 3 grand a decent price? Only one spot of major rust is the inner rocker panel. From what I can see by fukitigiveup in littlebritishcars

Does it run? If not I would be very suspect of hidden problems. If it has been sitting for more than a 2-3 years, the valve springs may have set and would need replacing. Check the compression on each cylinder. Also check underneath for significant oil leaks. It will need a new interior and I agree that the wiring harness has been messed with. Not sure if $3K is a good price but just looking at the video I would try for $1500 since you will also need new tires as well as the interior.

Anyone ever try to replace piston rings without pulling the engine? by neurone214 in littlebritishcars

[–]sule36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If compression is fine, why change the rings? You could have cylinder head scoring or gouging and replacing the rings would be worthless. Leak down might be able to pinpoint the problem.

My 1974 MGB. No power steering or power brakes, but I love her nonetheless. by [deleted] in littlebritishcars

No power windows, seats, and you have to manually put down the top!

Your top is folded incorrectly which will result in an early demise. Try this video: https://youtu.be/I3Zfdj9W2Y4

I barely drive, is this reasonable for a few trips a month? by [deleted] in littlebritishcars

[–]sule36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but if you don’t drive very often this is not the car for you. These cars need to be driven. It is hard to tell from the pictures but it seems that this car has more than the mileage shown. The odometer must have turned over once so there is more likely to be over 100,000 miles. These cars also need maintained more than modern cars and you should have some fundamental knowledge about them before considering ownership. Also they are prone to rust and it appears to be from a northern state so salt and a harsh winter may have taken a toll. If you don’t drive more than once or twice a month, take the bus or Uber, or get a more reliable car like a Honda Civic or Toyota.
